1,000 join charity run in support of St Anne Chapel

KIMANIS: More than 1,000 people joined the Nuhu Dolorosa de Kamijan Trail Run 2.0, held to support the reconstruction of St Anne Chapel in Penampang Baru, recently. According to event organiser Jessel Kamijan, the run was inspired by Monsignor Fr. Nicholas Stephen, whose dedication to leading the charitable mission has been a true inspiration to the community.
Advertisement 'The chapel is unable to accommodate the congregation attending Sunday services and Mass sessions. 'Therefore, we collaborated with the local community for this charity run to support St Anne Chapel,' he said. The event was officiated by Archbishop Datuk John Wong, who participated in the men's open 7km category. There were three race distance categories - 7km, 12km and 30km, with participation from women, children and senior citizens. One of the highlights was 76-year-old Loius Ening Gabriel, who joined the 7km run and proudly made it to the finish line. Among the successful runners were former Climbathon champion Guanus Salagan and his wife, Kona Liau. The winners of the 30km category were Sheron Sariman (first place), Milton Amat (second place) and Wilsen Singgin (third place). Meanwhile, the winners of the same category for women were Natasya Soon (first place), Adelinah Lintanga (second place) and Stephanie Gelawit (third place). The event was also attended by nuns, novices and priests. Volunteers from nearby churches also collaborated to facilitate the run, assisting by managing sales of Rahmah products through two trucks, stalls and a paid karaoke session. The raffle tickets and items sold were intended to generate additional funds for the church. In a thrilling final match, SK Rugading defeated SK Berungis with a score of 2-1, while third place was shared by SK Lok Yuk and SK St John. The two-day tournament brought together 26 primary school teams from across the Tuaran district. The closing ceremony was officiated by the Special Officer to the Chief Minister Rijahan Aliaprah, who also serves as the Liaison Officer for Jetama Sdn Bhd. In his closing speech, Rijahan expressed his appreciation to the parents for their strong support of their children. 'Without their consent and encouragement, this tournament would not have been successfully realised,' he said. He further emphasised that such support was important to ensuring continued efforts by schools and MSSD in scouting and nurturing young football talents. They took home four gold and two bronze medals in the three-day competition that concluded Thursday (July 3). Advertisement The gold medal winners were Muhammad Hafiz Saiful (Boys Under 12) who defeated Jasmy Zhariff Jasmawardhy 202-131 in the final, Muhammad Faris Faiq Afillah (Boys Graded) after beating Alvin Voon Dong Cheng 224-157, Miasara Adawiyah Saiful (Girls Graded) with the 159-156 victory over Arwynn Galleina Anak Arthur Ray and Awang Syamsul Khusairi Awang Samsudin (Boys Open) who beat Mohd Iman Hareez Mohd Nizam 236-189. The bronze medals were delivered by Dayang Hasya Izz Zayani (Girls Under 12) and Lynette Ho Kang Ling (Girls Graded). Sabah Tenpin Bowling Association (STBA) President Rozzainny Sham Talip was delighted with the success of the team and congratulated the winners. 'Well done for winning four gold and two bronze medals for the State. Congratulations to the medal winners and also to all the athletes who successfully advanced to the top eight stages. 'I hope they were able to gain the knowledge and experience to achieve even greater success at the Sabah leg round later,' he said.
