Samsung's Next Android Upgrade—‘Better' Than Google's Pixel

Bigger and better — Samsung is coming for Pixel. NurPhoto via Getty Images There's a new twist to the Android versus iPhone narrative. The gap between the two has never been as narrow – at least where security is concerned. And Google's latest Android 16 upgrade brings a level of network security even iPhone can't match. But the real Android 16 game-changer is Google's new Advanced Protection Mode. Despite some reports, this is not the same as Apple's Lockdown Mode for iPhone. I would recommend Android's new setting for almost all users. Per SammyFans , 'Android 16's Advanced Protection is a big deal, probably the biggest security update Android has ever seen… Samsung isn't just going to copy-paste Google's security features. It's going to make them better with Galaxy-specific improvements." First to the basics — what exactly is Advanced Protection Mode. Put simply, it's a one click security update that enables all the existing protections you should be using and a few news ones that Google has included in its Android 16 release. Forbes Do Not Use These Networks On Your Smartphone, Warns Google By Zak Doffman It will protect your browsing and wireless connections, it will also stop you installing apps from dangerous sources. That means Play Store and other official sites only, which might seem restrictive and painful but is a necessary defense these days. As Android Authority says, 'from harmful apps to insecure connections, there are all kinds of risks you're exposed to. Thankfully, Android features a range of security settings to keep your device and data protected from these threats." Unlike Apple's Lockdown Mode, Google's setting won't make your phone difficult to use or remove everyday features you likely use. It will curtail risky behavior, as it should. Apple says Lockdown Mode is for a very small minority of users, where Google says Advanced Protection Mode is for any users who want additional phone security. As for the Galaxy One UI 8 features that are 'better' than Android's stock offering on Pixel, SammyFans highlights the new secure folder upgrade and Knox architecture. Secure Folder has triggered a bunch of warnings given some issues in how it was deployed, those have been addressed. It also offers a new 'kill switch' which means you can lock down your phone and hide sensnsive apps and data wirth just a tap. The Knox architecture is Samsung's answer to Apple's hugely successful trusted device architecture that builds a walled garden around a user's devices. Not only does it reinforce protection against external threats, it also makes Samsung stickier for users. Only its own devices can be protected, and the more you have the safer you are. Forbes Google's Unbeatable Pixel Upgrade Just Left iPhone Behind By Zak Doffman The bad news — as ever — for Galaxy users is that 'Google is rolling out Advanced Protection to Pixel phones first. Galaxy phones should get Android 16 and One UI 8 in the next few months.' It's worth the wait, which should be shorter than that for most. Per Phone Arena's interpretation of firmware builds on company servers, 'Samsung isn't focusing only on its flagship lineup when it comes to rolling out One UI 8.0. The company is already testing Android 16 firmware for the Galaxy A56, suggesting this mid-range phone may be among the first non-flagships to receive the update.' SammyFans says 'Android 16's security overhaul shows that mobile security is finally growing up. One UI 8 will probably show off how Samsung can take Google's security foundation and make it even better with its own innovations. This could set new standards for how secure smartphones should be.'

Coach Ivankovic fired following World Cup elimination

Coach Ivankovic fired following World Cup elimination Branko Ivankovic was appointed China's coach in February 2024. NurPhoto via AFP Branko Ivankovic has been fired as the national team coach following the squad's elimination from the qualifiers for the 2026 World Cup this month, the Chinese Football Association has announced. The 71-year-old Croatian coach was removed from the post as a result of China finishing fifth in Group C of the continent's preliminaries for next year's 48-team finals, which will be held in the United States, Mexico and Canada. "The Chinese Football Association expresses gratitude to Mr Branko Ivankovic and his coaching staff for their dedicated efforts during their tenure with the men's national team and their contributions to Chinese football," a CFA statement said on Friday. "We wish Mr. Ivankovic all the best in his future work and life." Ivankovic, who led Iran at the World Cup finals in Germany in 2006, was appointed China's coach in February 2024, replacing Aleksandar Jankovic. He steered the country into the third phase of Asia's World Cup qualifying. His team recovered from a poor start to maintain their hopes of a place at their first World Cup since the nation's debut appearance at the finals in 2002. Wins over Indonesia and Bahrain kept the national team in contention for a berth in the fourth round of qualifying, but losses to Japan, Saudi Arabia and Australia were followed by a defeat against Indonesia on June 5 that ended any prospect of progressing. The Chinese association said Dejan Djurdjevic, who led China to the quarter-finals of the Under 20 Asian Cup in Shenzhen in February, will take over on a caretaker basis for next month's East Asian Championship in South Korea. Wimbledon set to begin on Monday

Tennis fans are bracing themselves for a few hot-headed moments during this year's Wimbledon tournament, which gets underway on Monday, after a spate of rows involving players in the build up to the competition. The courts are heating up already and the famous Grass Court Competition hasn't even begun. Spanish champion 'Alejandro Davidovitch Fokina' had some choice words for the umpire during his match against 'Jakub Mensik' at the Lexus Eastbourne Open earlier this week, resulting in him throwing his racquet to the ground after losing his cool at the end of the game, which saw his opponant come very close to levelling the match on sets. EASTBOURNE, ENGLAND – JUNE 26: Alejandro Davidovich Fokina of Spain plays a backhand against Jakub Mensik of Czechia during the Men's Singles Quarter Final match on Day Four of the Lexus Eastbourne Open at Devonshire Park on June 26, 2025 in Eastbourne, England. (Photo byfor LTA) The umpire wasn't impressed and proceeded to hand him a code violation for unsportsmanlike conduct. The Spaniard couldn't believe it, protesting that the punishment was undeserved and refused to accept the warning, but that still wasn't the end of it, as he went on to tell the umpire that he was the 'worst umpire I've ever seen', and 'I don't know how you sit there' Fans of the sport could be set for similar scenes in the womens competition with Russian-born Yulia Putintseva also making headlines last week. Putintseva Julia (Kazakstan) during a game against Kudermetova Veronika (Photo by Valya Egorshin/NurPhoto via Getty Images) The Russian-born star was told 'Nobody likes you' during a frosty post-match exchange with her rival Maria Sakkari, after she refused to look her opponant in the eye while shaking hands post match at the Bad Homberg Open. Its also reported Putintseva appeared to take issue with Sakkari after match point, telling her to 'go f**k yourself' after giving her a half-hearted handshake at the net. But an even more notorious incident occured on court in New York last year, when 30-year-old Putintseva, who is world No 34, glared at a young ball girl, when two balls were accidentally thrown to her at the same time, that awkward moment earned her worldwide critisism. With personalities like these, we can look forward to some exciting and also tense moments at the most highly contested competition of them all, which begins at Centre Court in Wimbledon on Monday (June 30th).

Trump says US-Iran meeting will happen next week — with Tehran's nuke material buried under ‘30 stories' of rubble

President Trump said Wednesday that US officials will meet with their Iranian counterparts next week — following Saturday's unprecedented US airstrikes that he said buried the nation's enriched uranium under '30 stories' of rubble. Trump did not say who would represent the US at that meeting after he helped broker a cease-fire between Iran and Israel Monday, ending what he has dubbed the '12-Day War.' 3 President Trump says his team has a meeting with Iran next week. AP Advertisement 'We're going to talk to them next week, with Iran. We may sign an agreement. I don't know,' Trump said at a press conference following the annual NATO summit at The Hague. 'I could get a statement that they're not going to go nuclear. We're probably going to ask for that, but they're not going to be doing it anyway.' Trump then reiterated: 'We may sign an agreement, [but] I don't care if I have an agreement or not.' Advertisement The president also said it's his opinion that nearly 900 pounds of enriched uranium, the whereabouts of which are currently unknown, remain underneath 300 feet of rubble at the Fordow enrichment site, which was hit with 14 30,000-pound 'bunker buster' bombs. 3 Iranians celebrate cease-fire 'victory' over Israel in Tehran on June 24, 2025. Morteza Nikoubazl/NurPhoto/Shutterstock 'We think everything nuclear is down there, they didn't take it out,' he said. Trump, 79, also used the press conference to rip the 'real scum' in the press who he accused of downplaying the impact of his air raids on Iran, which he likened Wednesday to the US dropping atomic weapons on Japan to end World War II in 1945. Advertisement 3 Trump brokered a cease-fire with Israel Monday, ending the country's fighting with Iran. AP 'It was so bad that they ended the war,' he said of the bombing of Hiroshima and Nagasaki. Trump also argued a leaked Defense Intelligence Agency assessment that the strikes may not have set back Iran's nuclear program more than a few months was merely 'a guess' because 'they didn't see it.'

More Porzycki/NurPhoto via Getty Images) Nike (NYSE: NKE) is set to announce its fiscal fourth-quarter earnings (for the year ending in May) on Thursday, June 26, 2025, with analysts anticipating earnings of 12 cents per share on $10.71 billion in revenue. This would reflect an 88% decline in earnings year-over-year and a 15% decrease in sales compared to the previous year's figures of 99 cents per share and $12.62 billion in revenue. Historically, NKE stock has decreased 65% of the time after earnings announcements, with a median one-day drop of 6.8% and a maximum observed decline of 20%. For the third quarter of fiscal year 2025, which concluded on February 28, the company indicated weak performance and expected a low-to-mid-teens revenue downturn in the fourth quarter. Additionally, gross margins are projected to compress by 4 to 5 percentage points due to aggressive inventory clearance strategies. The full-year fiscal 2025 revenue is expected to decrease by 11%, with a slight 1% decline anticipated for fiscal 2026, indicating a slow and gradual recovery. The company has a current market capitalization of $88 billion. Revenue over the past twelve months was $48 billion, and it operated profitably with $4.9 billion in operating profits and net income of $4.5 billion.
