Wrexham actor Harrison Tipping to star in Off-Broadway show

After attending the Delta Academy in Wrexham's Caia Park at nine-years-old where he first recognised his acting talent, Harrison decided to move to the US to turn his dreams into a reality. At 18, he moved abroad and attended the world-famous Stella Adler Studios in New York where Marlon Brando and Robert De Niro trained. Harrison graduated in 2022 and has worked professionally in film and theatre ever since. He received great praise for his debut feature in US film 'Protocol 7', in which he starred in as a lead role opposite Eric Roberts and British actor Mathew Marsden. Now 25 years old, another milestone moment was achieved for Harrison this week when it was confirmed that he would be playing one of the lead roles in an Off-Broadway production in New York. Off-Broadway is known for innovative and experimental shows, including original plays and musicals. Harrison is set to play 'Young Bobby' in The Honey Trap, which is set in 1979 Belfast. Written by Leo McGann and directed by Matt Torney, the play focuses on the troubles in Ireland and gives a very exciting and layered perspective. Looking forward to the new adventure, Harrison said: "It's so special for me to be performing Off-Broadway with such a reputable company. My Family are going to come out and see it too which makes it all the more exciting." Read more Harrison also reflected on his time learning his craft back home in Wrexham. He said: "I can't help but reflect on performing at the William Aston Hall every Christmas and summer when I was younger to now be performing in NYC as a lead role. "Having had Ryan Reynolds' support earlier this year to now landing this role feels like a full circle moment for me and I'm filled with gratitude and appreciation for all those who support me - I have so much love and support from all my family and friends. "I'd like to give a shout out also to my niece Beatrice, my brother's first baby, who is only 6 months!" The cast of The Honey Trap will include the likes of; Doireann MacMahon, Daniel Marconi, Samantha Mathis, Molly Ranson and Annabelle Zasowski.

Kumail Nanjiani and Michael Urie are joining the Oh, Mary! cast this summer

Mary's getting a new cabinet! The Tony-winning production of Oh, Mary! has just announced that joining Jinkx Monsoon in her eight-month stint as Mary Todd Lincoln will be Kumail Nanjiani, Michael Urie and Jenn Harris. The new foursome will begin their bratty hijinks at the Lyceum Theater on Monday, August 4 through Sunday, September 28. This will mark Nanjiani and Harris' Broadway debuts, and Urie's first return since his Drama Desk-winning turn in the 2024 revival of Once Upon a Mattress. Tony-nominee Conrad Ricamora, James Scully and Bianca Leigh, who originated their roles in the play's Off-Broadway premiere at the Lucille Lortel Theater last year, debuted them on Broadway, and are currently back for an encore, will play their final performances on August 2. Tituss Burgess, in his second go-round as Mary Todd Lincoln, will also bow out that day. Tony Macht, who has been with the production from the start, will also play his final performance as 'Mary's Husband's Assistant' on September 28. Nanjiani, an Academy Award and Emmy nominee for his work on The Big Sick and The Twilight Zone, and known for his performance in Marvel's Eternals, will step into the role of 'Mary's Husband.' Harris, recently of American Fiction and the TV series Elsbeth, and a Lortel winner for her performance in Modern Orthodox, will be the next 'Mary's Chaperone.' Urie, a Broadway mainstay who just received his first Emmy nomination for his performance in Shrinking, will play 'Mary's Teacher.' The three will be witness to what is sure to be yet another stage triumph for Jinkx Monsoon, a RuPaul's Drag Race favorite who has recently taken to Broadway, with box office-breaking turns in Chicago, Little Shop of Horrors, and Pirates! The Penzance Musical. Monsoon is the production's fourth official Mary Todd Lincoln, following Escola, Betty Gilpin, Tituss Burgess and standby Hannah Solow. Written by Cole Escola, Oh, Mary! is a proudly ridiculous spoof of the final days of Abraham Lincoln's presidency, in which Mary Todd Lincoln is a miserable alcoholic longing for her cabaret-starring heyday, and dealing with an obviously gay husband. The play had a blockbuster premiere Off-Broadway at the Lucille Lortel Theater in February, 2024 before transferring to the Lyceum Theater. It became a finalist for the Pulitzer Prize in Drama, and netted five Tony nominations, including Best Play. Escola won for their performance as Mary Todd Lincoln, as did director Sam Pinkleton for his work on the production.

Anthony Ramos Calls Out Madonna's Actions During Hamilton

Don't ask Madonna what happens in the stage show Hamilton. In a new interview, original cast member Anthony Ramos appeared on Watch What Happens Live With Andy Cohen, where he was asked who the most "terrifying celebrity" in the audience was during his run as John Laurens in Hamilton. Anthony cited a 2015 incident in response. 'The most terrifying was Madonna with her iPad in her face. She was like this the whole time,' Anthony said, mimicking looking down at a screen. He added, 'I was like, 'Damn, shorty. If you're not enjoying it that much, you know the door is right there. You don't have to stay here.'' The moment occurred during the show's Off-Broadway run at The Public Theater. Interestingly, at the time Lin-Manuel Miranda tweeted-and-deleted, "Tonight was the first time I asked stage management NOT to allow a celebrity (who was texting all through Act 2) backstage #noselfieforyou." A rep for Madonna subsequently denied the speculation. However, Jonathan Groff was later asked if he was disappointed that Madonna wasn't allowed backstage, to which he said, "No. Because that bitch was on her phone. You couldn't miss it from the stage. It was a black void of the audience in front of us and her face there perfectly lit by the light of her iPhone through three-quarters of the show." There we have it: The rehashing of a decade-old Broadway beef.
