Time running out for Pascal Wehrlein in Formula E title defence

Porsche's Pascal Wehrlein, reigning Formula E world champion, left Indonesian capital Jakarta last weekend with his hopes of back-to-back crowns in a bad shape following his fifth non-score of the season. He now has just four races left to overhaul the 69-point gap to season leader Oliver Rowland of Nissan. It's a tough ask, with just 116 points left to play for before Season 11's chequered flag in London next month - a double header on July 26-27. But the German is approaching the end of the season with pragmatism. 'I think it's a good time to reset, and have a bit of a rest,' he said in Jakarta. 'Definitely the last couple of weeks have been very busy. 'The focus is, already since Shanghai, to be honest, not on the drivers' championship anymore. Obviously, we [will] try to do as good as we can, and fight until the end. But, realistically, the gap has always been quite big. 'The focus is on the manufacturers' and on the teams' championship, which is just as important to the team than the drivers' championships. So, yeah, that's where we are, and that's what we will try to do in the last couple of races. Have a good end to the season, try to secure the two championships there.' Wehrlein came into Jakarta's ePrix on the back foot, with the event just one week after his Le Mans 24 Hours debut, the world's most prestigious endurance race. Wehrlein and teammates Felipe Nasr and Nick Tandy drove the Porsche Penske Motorsport hypercar to eighth place overall. But the German-Mauritian enjoyed racing through the night in France, and then arrived in Indonesia as fresh as could be expected. 'Yeah, was a great experience,' said Wehrlein, who also logged 39 starts between 2016 and 2017 for Manor and Sauber in Formula One. 'It was a great journey because it started already a long time ago, with my first test in Daytona, and then also the race in Daytona for JDC [JDC Miller Motorsports]. The cars are awesome. I really enjoyed it. 'Obviously, since 2018-19, I was only driving in the Formula E series, so I really enjoyed coming back to other cars and you know, having that sound again. Different track. Going to bed in the evening with a small tinnitus in the ears, and just going back to something I really enjoyed in the past like [German series] DTM, for example – so racing a touring car or prototype, so it was great fun.' But, Jakarta was a step back with Wehrlein finishing 11th, immediately behind the man he has got to catch - Nissan's Rowland. It was a missed opportunity for a standout result on a day when his title rival faltered. 'It's quite a poor race after the qualifying we had,' Wehrlein said. 'We knew it was going to be difficult, that overtaking is almost impossible if you're in the same power mode [as your rival]. Yeah, just a poor qualifying, which resulted into yeah, the poor day we had. 'In the morning, we were very competitive. Yeah, the track conditions were insane. It was so dirty, actually, was it's more difficult to see something than in wet conditions just because of all the dust. Going a bit offline, there's a huge penalty, so it makes overtaking even more tricky, and it caught us in qualifying. I just went with my rear tyre a bit on the dust and lost the car. So yeah, that meant we were poor in qualifying and then after the penalty [for slowing down to create a gap] even worse.' Wehrlein and his Porsche Formula E teammate Antonio Felix da Costa head home to Berlin next month for the first of two double headers on July 12 and 13 before moving to the London finale just two weeks later.

Hankook Cements Its Tire Supremacy at the 2025 Jakarta E-Prix

GEN3 Evo iON Race Tires Triumph in Jakarta's Sweltering Round 12 Showdown Dan Ticktum conquers Jakarta's sweltering heat in a commanding drive at the Jakarta International E-Prix Circuit GEN3 Evo iON Race tires excel in grip, heat resistance, and stability across Jakarta's technically demanding layout and extreme track conditions The Season 11 title fight intensifies as Formula E leaves Asia behind and prepares for decisive final rounds in Berlin and London JAKARTA, Indonesia, June 22, 2025 /PRNewswire/ — Under Jakarta's unforgiving tropical heat, Hankook Tire & Technology (hereafter Hankook), a leading global tire company under the Hankook & Company Group, reinforced its performance leadership at the 2025 Jakarta E-Prix—Round 12 of the 2024/2025 ABB FIA Formula E World Championship (hereafter Formula E). After a one-season hiatus, Formula E roared back to action on the Jakarta International E-Prix Circuit (hereafter JIEC), a fiercely technical track set against the energetic backdrop of the Ancol waterfront. Dan Ticktum secured a decisive victory—injecting new momentum into the escalating championship battle. Oliver Rowland maintained his lead in the drivers' standings with 172 points, while TAG Heuer Porsche Formula E Team further solidified its dominance at the top of the teams' standings with 203 points. The track, inspired by the flowing movements of the traditional Javanese Kuda Lumping dance, the 2.37km circuit pushed all 22 drivers to their limits with a mix of sweeping corners, tight technical sections, and scarce overtaking zones—made even more punishing by Jakarta's humidity and track surface temperatures exceeding 40°C. Engineered exclusively by Hankook for Formula E, the GEN3 Evo iON Race tire proved pivotal in Jakarta's extreme conditions. Each team's two allocated sets delivered consistent grip, thermal resilience, and control—empowering drivers to push the limits through the circuit's most challenging sections without compromising performance or safety. Maximilian Günther of DS Penske commented: 'Jakarta's climate and circuit layout really test both the driver and the car to the edge. The GEN3 Evo iON Race tire handled the heat and surface complexity incredibly well. It gave me the confidence to attack and defend—even in the tightest corners. What's most impressive is how consistent the tire feels across conditions like this—something that clearly carries over into road tire technology too.' As Formula E concludes its Asia tour, the spotlight now shifts to the decisive final stretch of Season 11. Next up is the 2025 Hankook Berlin E-Prix, taking place on July 12 & 13—marking the penultimate double-header of the season and the final race to carry the Hankook race title sponsorship this season. As the championship race heats up, Hankook continues to lead the charge in electric motorsport innovation—delivering sustainable, high-performance tire solutions that extend beyond the racetrack and drive the future of global e-mobility.

Jakarta E-Prix 2025: Maximilian Gunther, Oliver Rowland, or a new face - here are top contenders for a podium finish at Round 12 Formula E race

Image credit: Formula E Season 11 of the ABB FIA Formula E World Championship is coming to a close, with five races remaining on the calendar. The Jakarta E-Prix is a crucial race, and it's hard to predict who may lift the trophy in Indonesia this year. The current season has already seen seven different race winners and fifteen drivers on the podium. Not only that, but every single team has achieved a podium finish so far — a clear indication of how tight and unpredictable the competition is. Jakarta E-Prix 2025 podium predictions Oliver Rowland Nissan's Oliver Rowland is far ahead of the competition so far, as he dominates the FIA Drivers' World Championship standings with 171 points — significantly ahead of Pascal Wehrlein, who sits in second position with 103 points for TAG Heuer Porsche. Rowland has a total of four wins and three second-place finishes this season, and he may continue his winning streak in Jakarta as well. Maximilian Gunther Maserati MSG Racing's Maximilian Gunther is being counted among the hot favourites to bag a podium at the Jakarta E-Prix. He has two wins under his belt this year and will be trying his best to maintain his stronghold in the city and add more points to his tally. He had secured third place in the Part 1 race in 2023, having started from Julius Bar Pole Position — a historic moment as Maserati's first single-seater motorsport pole since 1958. He again bagged the pole the next day of the double-header and went on to win his first race in the iconic blue livery of Maserati MSG Racing. It marked Maserati's first single-seater championship podium since Juan Manuel Fangio's 1957 German Grand Prix victory, en route to that year's Formula One title. Pascal Wehrlein Pascal Wehrlein won one of the two races at the Jakarta E-Prix's last edition, and the TAG Heuer Porsche driver is very much in form at present, with a win in Miami and three more podium finishes in the Formula E 2025 World Championship so far. He is second in the 2025 Formula E Driver Standings with 103 points and will be aiming for a win to catch up with Rowland. Mitch Evans Jaguar TCS Racing's Mitch Evans has been away from the podium for a long time now after winning the first race of this season in Sao Paulo. But this could also indicate his growing hunger for a win — or at least another podium — possibly in Jakarta, before the season comes to a close. Evans had won the first edition of the Jakarta E-Prix in 2022, when three drivers crossed the line within a single second. The other two drivers were Jean-Éric Vergne and Edoardo Mortara, who took second and third positions in that Season 8 race. He also bagged the third spot on the podium in Race 2 of the Jakarta double-header in 2023. This makes him one of the strong contenders to make a comeback on the podium. Also Read: Jakarta E-Prix 2025: Schedule, how to watch Round 12 Formula E race, weather prediction Since Nick Cassidy and Sebastien Buemi have also ended their race droughts this year, one can expect a new winner in Jakarta as well. The E-Prix begins on Friday with the free practice session and will conclude on Saturday with the final race in the early evening. The heat is on — but rain is likely, and that's enough to add to the unpredictability factor. Game On Season 1 kicks off with Sakshi Malik's inspiring story. Watch Episode 1 here

Jakarta E-Prix 2025: Schedule, how to watch Round 12 Formula E race, weather prediction

Image credit: Formula E The countdown for the Jakarta E-Prix has begun. Formula E is returning to Indonesia after a gap of two seasons. The race will be held at the Jakarta International E-Prix Circuit (Ancol Beach street track), which witnessed a record-breaking audience last season. The Formula E drivers have reached Indonesia along with their all-new GEN3 Evo cars and may have to deal with a rainy race. Here's all about the timing, broadcasting details, and weather forecast for the Jakarta E-Prix. Jakarta E-Prix schedule The Jakarta E-Prix will start with the first free practice race, FP1, of 55 minutes on Friday, June 21 at 4 PM local time (2:30 PM IST). It's a packed schedule on Saturday with the second free practice race, FP2, starting at 8 AM local time (6:30 AM IST). The Qualifying race will begin at 10:20 AM local time (8:50 AM IST) and will end by 11:43 AM. The final Jakarta Formula E race is scheduled on the same day at 3 PM local time (1:35 PM IST) and is expected to take around an hour to complete. Weather prediction The Formula E drivers will have to brace for a wet race once again. Light rain is very likely on Day 1 during the first free practice race on Friday, but the drivers can utilize it to practice on a wet track in order to prepare for the final race, which may also witness a shower. The temperature is expected to remain around 27 degrees Celsius on Friday. There are comparatively lower chances of rain on Saturday, but the intensity may be higher. The temperature will remain around 26–27 degrees Celsius despite the cloud cover. There is a 59 percent chance of rain in the morning during FP2 and a 70 percent chance of rain during Qualifying, which will end before noon. Rain is quite likely, with a 78 percent chance of showers during the final Jakarta race in the early evening on Saturday. One cannot take rain lightly during a car race, as it played a major spoilsport at the Tokyo double-header last month when the Qualifying race was canceled and the grid order was based on free practice results. How to watch Jakarta E-Prix Formula E fans can keep a close watch on the race through live updates on the Race Centre or on the official Formula E YouTube channel. If Indian fans wish to watch the race on TV, they can tune in to Sony Sports Network.
