EC becoming Modi's Commission, says RJD's Tejashwi Yadav as poll panel postpones meet on SIR
Patna (Bihar) [India], July 2 (ANI): Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) leader Tejashwi Yadav on Tuesday slammed the Election Commission of India (ECI) for not addressing concerns regarding the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls being carried out in the state, which the RJD leader has claimed is being used to the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) win the upcoming Bihar polls by denying poor people their right to vote. The RJD leader also claimed that the Narendra Modi-led Centre will impose President's rule in the state to consolidate power. Attacking the poll panel for not clarifying the doubts of political parties, Yadav told ANI, 'Two days after the (SIR) notification itself, we have asked the Election Commission that our mahagathbandan, the alliance, wants to meet with you, a delegation wants to meet with you. Though the sad thing that in the state in which elections will happen, if Opposition wants to meet with Election Commission to raise doubts for clarity but Election Commission not giving a time for meeting itself.' The remarks of Yadav were made on the day ECI was supposed to meet a multi party delegation to talk about the SIR exercise, however that meeting had been postponed. One President's rule, the former deputy Chief Minister claimed, 'I feel that they will impose President's rule, in the coming months there is a big conspiracy, Modi will impose president's rule and take it all in his hands. It is such a big issue that voting rights are being taken away and EC is not meeting, what else do we do? Where is justice? This is injustice,' he added. The RJD leader also claimed that voting rights being allegedly taken away is just the first step, with the BJP coming for people's pensions and rations later on. 'It looks like the Election Commission has become Modi's, BJP's Commission, and BJP, Nitish Kumar is silent on this. They are losing the elections by votes so EC is helping them from the back. When they lose, first they cut votes of poor, then pension, after that ration. Modi ji will eat all that up. Voting is a right in a Constitutional democracy, and that too you are taking that way,' he added. Dismissing the plan for implementing One Nation One Election, Yadav said that the poll panel has already shown how it is not able to conduct an election in one state properly. 'They talk about One Nation One Election, but you can't even organise an election in one state properly, cheating happens. It has been made perfectly clear that there is a conspiracy...' Earlier on July 1, the ECI postponed a scheduled meeting with a multi-party delegation which was supposed to take place today, regarding theSpecial Intensive Revision (SIR) of the electoral rolls in Bihar. The Commission claimed that the meeting was postponed due to 'lack of confirmation' from the participating political parties,' sources said. Claiming to represent multiple political parties in the matter, the meeting was initially requested by the All India Congress Committee (AICC), via an email on June 30, EC sources said. Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar has affirmed that the main objective of the SIR is to avoid any 'illegible' voter and ensure that no one is left out of the voter list. 'The objective of SIR is to ensure that no eligible voter is left out, and at the same time, no ineligible voter is included in the Electoral Roll,' the CEC said in a statement. The Bihar assembly elections are scheduled to take place at the end of this year. (ANI)

After the prices of mangoes — particularly the Totapuri variety — saw a decline in recent days, the Agriculture Ministry decided to support the Karnataka farmers under the Market Intervention Scheme (MIS) after Joshi wrote to Chouhan on June 9, urging his intervention. Following the letter, Chouhan held a video conference with Karnataka Agriculture Minister N Chaluvaraya Swamy and announced the relief measures on June 21. ONOE Consultations Having visited Punjab, Haryana and Himachal Pradesh earlier this month to hold consultations with stakeholders, the Joint Committee of Parliament on the 'One Nation One Election' Bills is planning its next meeting in Delhi on July 11, it is learnt. The panel, chaired by BJP MP P P Chaudhary, is likely to invite two former Chief Justices of India — Jagdish Singh Khehar and D Y Chandrachud — as well as former Law minister Veerappa Moily, to hear their views on the proposed simultaneous elections.

Himachal police launch probe over death threat to deputy CM, Congress MLA
The Himachal Pradesh Police has launched an investigation into an indirect death threat made on social media against Deputy Chief Minister Mukesh Agnihotri and Congress MLA Rakesh Kalia, an official said on Friday. According to police, a social media user shared a post on Facebook on the arrest of notorious gangster Amrish Rana. In the comment section, an individual wrote, "The people are demanding the sword again," to which another user replied, "This time it will be used on a politician only." When asked, "For what crime?", the individual said, 'Only the deputy CM and MLA Rakesh Kalia would know.' Taking note of the conversation, complainant Arun Kumar informed the police and a case was registered at the Haroli Police Station in Himachal on Thursday night, the official said. JPC Chairperson on One Nation One Election holds meeting in Chandigarh
Chandigarh [India], June 16 (ANI): Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MP PP Chaudhary, the Joint Parliamentary Committee (JPC) Chairperson on One Nation One Election, held a meeting in Chandigarh on Monday. The meeting is currently underway with regional and national political parties of Haryana and Chandigarh, including the BJP, INC, JJP, BSP, INLD, and former Chief Ministers, who are discussing the matter of the One Nation One Election. The 129th Constitutional Amendment Bill for simultaneous national and assembly polls was tabled in the Lok Sabha in December last year. It was later referred to the Joint Parliamentary Committee. The Modi government had formed a High-level Committee on simultaneous Elections, under the chairmanship of former President Ram Nath Kovind, who submitted an over 18,000-page report to President Droupadi Murmu in March last year. Earlier, Punjab Finance Minister Harpal Singh Cheema strongly opposed the Centre's One Nation, One Election (ONOE) proposal, terming it a direct assault on the federal structure of the country and against the spirit of the Constitution framed by Dr BR Ambedkar. Speaking to ANI after a meeting with the Joint Parliamentary Committee (JPC) in Chandigarh, Cheema reiterated the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP)-led Punjab government's firm stance against the initiative, arguing that it undermines state autonomy. 'The JPC and its Chairman visited Punjab today to seek the views of the state government and political parties on One Nation, One Election. We have clearly presented our viewpoint before the Committee--this agenda is harmful to the country. It aims to dismantle the federal structure of the nation and goes against the principles of our Constitution. This move threatens the autonomy of states, and we strongly oppose it. We will not allow it to be passed,' Cheema said. In contrast, State Convener for ONOE, SS Channy, supported the initiative, claiming that 'people want One Nation, One Election to be implemented.' 'I welcome the JPC for coming to Punjab to listen to the political parties. We went around the state, and people want One Nation, One Election to be implemented. This will save time and money,' Channy said, highlighting the potential benefits of reduced election expenditure and administrative disruptions. (ANI)

AAP-led Punjab govt, Punjab Congress, Akali Dal object to 'One Nation One Election' in meeting with JPC
CHANDIGARH: The AAP-led Punjab government, Punjab Congress and Shiromani Akali Dal registered their strong objections to the 'One Nation One Election' proposal tabled by the BJP-led central government during a meeting with members of the Joint Parliamentary Committee on Saturday. After attending a meeting convened by the Joint Parliamentary Committee under the chairmanship of PP Choudhary, Punjab Finance Minister Harpal Singh Cheema described it as a direct assault on the fundamental structure and spirit of the Constitution of India as framed by Babasaheb Dr. Bhim Rao Ambedkar. Cheema said that he, along with AAP State President Aman Arora, completely rejected the move. "This proposal by the BJP-led Union government is a hidden agenda designed to destroy the federal structure of the nation as enshrined in the Constitution of India, meticulously architected by Baba Saheb Dr. Bhim Rao Ambedkar," he said. Referring to the amendments in the proposed Bill, Cheema said that the suggested amendments would effectively render the tenures of state assemblies subject to the discretion of the Union government, an alarming overreach incompatible with the federal framework enshrined in the Constitution. He said that this bill will further encourage the misuse of Article 356 and 360 by the Union government. As per section 5 of part 2, if the Election Commission is of the opinion that the elections to any Legislative Assembly cannot be conducted along with the general election to the House of the People, it may make a recommendation to the President, to declare by an order, that the election to that Legislative Assembly may be conducted at a later date. Citing this amendment, Cheema said that the BJP's One Nation One Election concept would ultimately backfire, as it would enable the Union government to conduct state elections at its convenience a year or two after general elections, rather than fulfilling the purpose of the proposal as being publicised.
