Samsung Galaxy users warned to activate these security features before it's too late

As phone theft becomes more common around the world, Samsung is asking Galaxy users to turn on the newest anti-theft features now available on many of its devices. These updates, part of One UI 7, are designed to improve personal data protection in situations like robbery or loss. Samsung first launched these security updates with the Galaxy S25 series earlier this year, and they are now expanding to older models like the Galaxy S24 series, Z Fold 6, Z Flip 6, Z Fold 5, Z Flip 5, and the Galaxy S23 and S22 devices. Additionally, more Galaxy phones are expected to get them over time. A key feature in the new update is Theft Detection Lock, which uses motion detection to notice if a phone is snatched and then locks the screen right away. Offline Device Lock also helps by locking the screen if the phone has been offline for a while. Both features are meant to block access even if someone tries to disable the connection. Samsung's Remote Lock has also been updated. Users can lock their stolen phone by verifying their phone number and can then use Samsung's tools to recover their account and take further steps to secure it. There are also new protections for robbery situations. Identity Check adds extra security when someone tries to change settings in unfamiliar locations. If a thief knows the PIN, this tool still requires biometric verification. Another feature, Security Delay, adds a one-hour wait time before any changes to biometric data can be made. This gives users more time to respond if their phone is stolen. Auto Blocker is one of the many security features Samsung boasts about. | Image credit — Samsung Samsung also shared some tips in case your phone is lost or taken. You can use Samsung Find to lock or erase your device remotely. You can also display a message or contact number on the lock screen, but it's best not to share personal contact info. If your phone is connected to the internet, you can track its location, ring it, or turn on power saving to keep it alive longer. Galaxy Watches and other devices can also help find a missing phone or earbuds. These new tools will not stop theft entirely, but they give users more ways to protect their data and keep control of their accounts in difficult situations. It's good to see Samsung bringing light to this and providing updates on how these tools can protect their users. Secure your connection now at a bargain price! Samsung One UI 8 could finally bring useful additions to Now Brief feature- All details

Back in January 2025, Samsung launched One UI 7 with new AI-powered features to Galaxy S25 models. Some of the hyped features of the update were the Now Bar for the lock screen and the Now Brief feature, which showcased a detailed summary of user activities, weather summaries, and others. Now, Samsung is expected to bring new additions to the Now Brief feature with One UI 8, which could make the feature more useful and intuitive. Samsung to upgrade Now Brief capabilities with the upcoming One UI 8 update.(Samsung) Samsung has already rolled out the Android 16-based OneUI 8 beta for Galaxy S25 models. The official launch for the OS is expected to take place during the upcoming Galaxy Unpacked event, with a stable version rolling out later. If you are familiar with how the Now Bried feature works, then you know how the new generation OS will add more value to this Galaxy AI feature. The Now Brief feature provides users with a daily summary; however, the feature has limited access to smartphone apps and features for a detailed summary. Now, the leaked build highlights Samsung may include new info cards such as parking spot reminders, smart home alerts, and wearable battery alerts. This will enable users to get timely alerts without relying on any particular app or manual navigation. But, does these info cards work? The report highlighted that the parking spot reminders will remember where the users have parked their cars and also allow users to take a picture. Whereas, the smart home alert will keep users updated about their smart home gadgets and appliances, such as lights and thermostats. Lastly, the wearable battery alerts will let users know when their Galaxy Watch or Galaxy Buds are running low on battery. Also read: Samsung Galaxy S25 Ultra review: Almost the perfect Android flagship Apart from these alerts, Now Brief is also rumoured to include water intake reminders. These info cards are expected to be customised by the users. Therefore, the feature could be used as a one-stop hub for all necessary information. However, we will have to wait for the stable rollout to confirm these new additions to One UI 8, Now Bried feature.

The best Android 16 features that are already live in One UI 8 beta

Joe Maring / Android Authority Android 16 is now available for Pixel phones, although some of the more exciting features won't be ready until the release of Android 16 QPR1 later this year. On the other hand, Samsung's One UI 8 beta, which is based on Android 16, has already surprised us by going live faster than expected and packing some fundamental features that Pixels don't have yet and won't have until QPR1. Of course, One UI 8 beta also has all of Samsung's apps and design language, as well as any new features Samsung develops for itself, but what I'm interested in here are the new Android 16-based features that I was able to try out. Of all the Android 16 features that Samsung has already implemented in One UI 8, these are my three favorites. Do you think One UI 8 is a good update so far? 278 votes Yeah, I like the changes I'm seeing. 40 % It's OK, but I'm curious to see how it progresses in future betas. 30 % No, I was hoping for more change. 23 % Other (let us know in the comments). 8 % Live Updates With One UI 7, Samsung introduced Live Notifications. Like Apple's Live Activities, Live Notifications make important notifications more accessible. Media controls, ongoing timers, Google Maps directions, and more are shown in a bubble to the left of the selfie camera and integrate with the Now Bar. If Samsung phones already have this feature, why are we discussing it now? Google is adding Live Updates — essentially the same feature — to Android 16, with full functionality expected in the QPR1 update later this year. This is a significant development for Samsung users, as there are relatively few third-party apps that support Samsung's Live Notifications in One UI 7, but app developers should have a greater incentive to support the feature when it's available on Android as a whole and not just Samsung phones. 90:10 split-screen Split-screen multitasking has been a feature of Android for years, and it hasn't changed much since its introduction. OnePlus debuted Open Canvas on the OnePlus Open, a new way of multitasking on a foldable that made a lot more sense than anything else we'd tried. Android 16 is using that as inspiration for the 90:10 split. This allows you to collapse one of the apps, so it only takes up 10% of your screen, giving the other app room to breathe. Tapping the smaller app reverses their positions, so you can swap between them as needed. Ironically, Samsung phones are currently the only Android 16 devices that can use this feature, as Google hasn't included it in the stable Android 16 release for Pixels, nor in the current betas for Android 16 QPR1. Hopefully that'll change soon, as I'd love to use this on my Pixel 9 Pro. Advanced Protection Mishaal Rahman / Android Authority Advanced Protection isn't as flashy or cool as the previous two entries, but it is an important addition to Android 16. It's a collection of features designed to keep your phone and data safe. Some of these security features are new, while others have been present in previous versions of Android and are now grouped under Advanced Protection. Existing features, such as Theft Protection Lock, blocking APK installation, Android Safe Browsing, and more, are all enabled when Advanced Protection is activated. New features include a USB Protection mode that defaults new USB connections to charging only while your phone is locked, automatically restarting your phone if it has been left idle for 72 hours, and more. None of that is as exciting as Live Updates, but I'm glad to see it in Android 16. Many of you reading this probably know not to install a dodgy APK from a random website or how to spot a scam call. Many people, however, don't, and enabling all these features on my grandparents' phones with one toggle, allowing me to worry less about them, is something I welcome. Will this completely resolve the spam and malicious software problems in the world? Of course not, but anything that makes combating them easier is a good thing. Android 16 isn't a huge overhaul of Android, but there are still some cool new features that I'm looking forward to trying when they land. I'm just glad I get to try some of them already in One UI 8 beta, which already feels less rushed and less hacked together than One UI 7 did. What are you looking forward to in Android 16 and One UI 8? Let me know in the comments.

Samsung One UI 8 Beta Version Coming To Galaxy S24 Models This Month

Last Updated: Samsung One UI 8 beta program is moving quickly which means the older Galaxy phones and foldables should be getting it in the next few weeks. Samsung One UI 8 beta program has already started in select regions and soon the company will offer the Android 16-based version for the Galaxy S24 users along with older Galaxy Z Fold users. New reports claim the One UI 8 beta update will be coming to these devices by the end of this month. The One UI 7 update was delayed beyond everyone's expectations and was released with the Galaxy S25 series in January this year. But the company is looking to avoid those issues with One UI 8 and these beta program extensions suggest the plan is moving at the right pace. The details about how Samsung plans to bring One UI 8 beta to more devices has been shared by a tipster named Tony Tech on X. The post claims Samsung will bring the One UI 8 beta version to Galaxy S24 series models which includes the S24 Plus, S24 Ultra as well as the Galaxy Z Fold 6 and Flip 6 models. The roll out could start as early as this week for these devices. He further points out that even the Galaxy S23 series models along with the Galaxy Z Fold 5 and Flip 5 versions should get the One UI beta version by the end of June. And he wraps up the One UI 8 beta schedule by talking about the Galaxy S22 series along with Galaxy Z Fold 4/Flip 4 variants getting the Android 16 version in early July. Google has already moved to the final phase of the Android 16 release which will be getting the design overhaul later this year. The One UI 7 upgrade was Samsung's biggest in terms of the design UI overhaul, but the One UI 8 version is likely to see incremental changes, which seems to have helped its cause and offer a faster OS rollout this year. We will wait for the company to share the official timelines but the details seem fairly believable. Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 7 and Flip 7 are launching on July 9 and will be the first to get the One UI 8 update out of the box. Before that, the company wants to ensure that the platform is stable, bug-free and the features work as expected. First Published:
