Japan fully committed to India's journey to manufacture semiconductors: Envoy Ono Keiichi
Ahmedabad (Gujarat) [India], July 11 (ANI): Japan's Ambassador to India, Ono Keiichi, visited the Dholera Special Investment Region (SIR) and Tata Electronics facility with more than 60 Japanese business representatives and said Tokyo is fully committed to India's journey to manufacture semiconductors. Ono Keiichi led a high-level delegation of leading Japanese companies on a visit to Dholera Special Investment Region, India's greenfield smart industrial city under the Delhi-Mumbai Industrial Corridor (DMIC). The visit marked a significant milestone in advancing industrial cooperation between India and Japan, built on shared values of innovation, sustainability and inclusive development. The two-day engagement began on Wednesday with a conference session in Ahmedabad, followed by a site visit to Dholera Special Investment Region (SIR) on Thursday. The session held on Wednesday featured opening remarks by Resident Executive Officer & Regional Head for Asia Pacific, Japan Bank for International Cooperation (JBIC) Kazuko Sakuma and Chief Representative, JETRO Ahmedabad Yu Yoshida. Mona K. Khandhar, Principal Secretary, Department of Science and Technology, Government of Gujarat, also addressed the gathering Delivering the keynote address, CEO & MD, National Industrial Corridor Development Corporation (NICDC), Rajat Kumar Saini, underscored the deepening strategic partnership between India and Japan. He noted that the Delhi-Mumbai Industrial Corridor (DMIC), inspired by Japan's Tokyo-Osaka corridor, continues to benefit from Japanese collaboration and investment, a Commerce and Industry release said. The session showcased presentations on India's evolving industrial ecosystem and the emergence of Dholera as a hub for advanced manufacturing. A special address by Ambassador Ono Keiichi concluded the session, in which he appreciated India's vision for semiconductors and smart cities, and reaffirmed Japan's continued support for India's economic transformation. The Japanese delegation undertook an on-site tour of the city's planned infrastructure and facilities, accompanied by officials from Dholera Industrial City Development Ltd. (DICDL) and the National Industrial Corridor Development Corporation (NICDC). Ono Keiichi, accompanied by Japan's Minister of Economic and Development Affairs, Koyoko Hokugo, also paid a courtesy visit to Gujarat's Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel in Gandhinagar on Friday. A Gujarat government release said that during his three-day visit to Gujarat, which included Dholera SIR and meetings with 150 top industrialists in Ahmedabad, the Ambassador highlighted Japan's intent to deepen ties with the state. He also appreciated the State Government's support for over 350 Japanese companies operating in the state. Bhupendra Patel stated that Gujarat is like a second home for Japan, offering a supportive environment with Japanese townships, restaurants, and industries. (ANI)

Japanese Ambassador wraps up Gujarat visit
Ahmedabad: Japanese Ambassador to India, Ono Keiichi, concluded his two-day visit to Gujarat on Friday. On Thursday, he participated in the Golden Jubilee celebration of the Indo-Japan Friendship Association (IJFA) in Ahmedabad, and on Friday, he met Gujarat chief minister Bhupendra Patel, visited Sabarmati Ashram, and reviewed key Indo-Japanese projects including the Mumbai-Ahmedabad bullet train. Speaking to TOI during his visit to the ashram, Ambassador Keiichi said that India and Japan share a special bond, and the 50th anniversary of IJFA marks a significant milestone. He even opened his speech in Gujarati at Thursday evening's celebration at the Ahmedabad Management Association (AMA), where he also tasted local delicacies, said Mukesh Patel, honorary Consul of Japan. A book titled 'Artopedia', showcasing Japanese art forms, was launched at the event. "A delegation of 60 representatives from Japanese semiconductor companies is part of this visit. Our collaboration will help strengthen the semiconductor ecosystem in Gujarat," said Keiichi. He noted that Gujarat is the only Indian state partnered with two Japanese prefectures—Shizuoka and Hyogo. ‘Positive environment created by UP govt beneficial for Japanese companies'

It was decided that a high-level delegation from the UP government will soon visit Japan. The visit will focus on exploring opportunities for collaboration in green hydrogen, electronics and particularly the semiconductor sector. The delegation will also participate in the World Expo to be held in Osaka in the last week of July. Adityanath said: 'UP welcomes Japanese investment and technological collaboration in sectors like electronics, green energy and semiconductors.' He also mentioned that the state government is ready to adopt modern models of urban mobility along with metro projects. The meeting also included discussions on developing skills of UP's youth and providing them with international employment opportunities. With a focus on job opportunities in Japan, the CM said the state government is working with Japan to train youth so they become eligible for employment there. Both sides also agreed to strengthen ties in the tourism sector. Adityanath remarked that UP is India's spiritual centre, home to numerous significant sites related to Hinduism, Buddhism and Jainism. These are of great interest to Japanese citizens as well. Ambassador Keiichi appreciated the improvements in UP's law and order, infrastructure, road and rail networks and air connectivity. He noted that the state is fast becoming a top choice for global investors. He said the positive environment created by the UP government is highly beneficial for Japanese companies. The meeting concluded with both sides agreeing to formalise this cooperation and prepare a concrete action plan soon.

Soma Nagao, a Japanese judo coach, stayed in the academy for two years and trained judokas," he said.
