‘Positive environment created by UP govt beneficial for Japanese companies'
Commending the positive transformation and developmental progress in UP over the past eight years, Keiichi congratulated Adityanath, saying that Japanese companies view UP as a reliable and investment-friendly destination, said the statement.
It was decided that a high-level delegation from the UP government will soon visit Japan. The visit will focus on exploring opportunities for collaboration in green hydrogen, electronics and particularly the semiconductor sector. The delegation will also participate in the World Expo to be held in Osaka in the last week of July.
Adityanath said: 'UP welcomes Japanese investment and technological collaboration in sectors like electronics, green energy and semiconductors.' He also mentioned that the state government is ready to adopt modern models of urban mobility along with metro projects.
The meeting also included discussions on developing skills of UP's youth and providing them with international employment opportunities. With a focus on job opportunities in Japan, the CM said the state government is working with Japan to train youth so they become eligible for employment there. Both sides also agreed to strengthen ties in the tourism sector.
Adityanath remarked that UP is India's spiritual centre, home to numerous significant sites related to Hinduism, Buddhism and Jainism. These are of great interest to Japanese citizens as well.
Ambassador Keiichi appreciated the improvements in UP's law and order, infrastructure, road and rail networks and air connectivity. He noted that the state is fast becoming a top choice for global investors. He said the positive environment created by the UP government is highly beneficial for Japanese companies. The meeting concluded with both sides agreeing to formalise this cooperation and prepare a concrete action plan soon.

Haryana explores GYL canal project with UP
1 2 3 Chandigarh: In a step towards futuristic water resource planning for the National Capital Region (NCR), the Haryana government is exploring the possibility of utilising Ganga river water by constructing the Ganga Yamuna Link (GYL) canal. The proposed canal aims to meet the region's growing needs for drinking water and irrigation. If all goes according to plan, the state government targets completion of the project by Nov 2031. According to sources in the chief minister's office (CMO), during preliminary discussions, the Uttar Pradesh govt informally agreed and suggested five options to Haryana. These include channels near Hindon Barrier in Khatauli, Badruddin Nagar, Muradnagar, and Yamunanagar to bring the water flow of Ganga river to mix with the Yamuna. The committee led by the engineer-in-chief (EIC) will submit its report to the Haryana govt within a month, after which chief minister Nayab Singh Saini will advance discussions with the central and Uttar Pradesh govts on the possibilities of creating the canal. Notably, the proposal has roots in planning from the announcements made by the then chief minister Manohar Lal Khattar in 2002. The real trigger came after the state clashed with Punjab over the water share from Bhakhra Dam in April and May this year. Additionally, Punjab's refusal to complete the SYL canal, despite the matter being decided in favour of Haryana, is also said to be a reason forcing Haryana to explore new possibilities for water resources. Haryana is a riparian state, and 80% of irrigation is done through canal and tubewell waters. According to information, a high-level meeting chaired by CM Saini last week directed the intensification of efforts to bring Ganges water to Haryana by laying a link canal connecting the Ganga with Yamuna. Taking the move ahead, the irrigation and water resources minister, Shruti Choudhary, has constituted a committee headed by EIC Birender Singh to prepare a complete proposal and detailed project report so that the matter could be initiated with the UP govt. "The govt is serious about this project. It's not just this one; the govt has advanced efforts for tapping rainwater ahead of Hathni Kund barrage by building a dam. Additionally, work for Keshau Dam is also in progress," a senior official said. Meanwhile, amidst the stand taken by Punjab of not having sufficient water, another round of chief ministers' level meeting between Punjab and Haryana on the issue of SYL is scheduled to be held in New Delhi on Wednesday. Interacting with media persons, Haryana CM Saini was hopeful of a positive response during the meeting from his Punjab counterpart, Bhagwant Maan.

CM Yogi asks farmers to take carbon credit benefit by planting trees
Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Sunday asked public representatives to encourage farmers to undertake large-scale tree plantation on the boundaries of their fields, saying doing so will help them receive benefits under the carbon credit scheme. Addressing a meeting of gram pradhans, mayors, district panchayat chairpersons through video conferencing amid the 'Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam' tree plantation campaign, the chief minister said that farmers in seven divisions of the state are set to receive about Rs 42 lakh as carbon credit this year. While the month-long 'Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam' plantation drive began on Saturday, the UP government has set a target of record plantation of 37 crore saplings in a single day on July 9. Stating that Prime Minister Narendra Modi has set a target to achieve net-zero carbon emissions by 2070, the chief minister said that under the carbon credit system, farmers will receive $5 after the survey. According to the CM, Rs 32.80 lakh was paid to farmers as carbon credit last year, and this year, farmers in Devipatan, Ayodhya, Jhansi, Mirzapur, Kanpur, Varanasi and Aligarh divisions are set to get Rs 42.20 lakh. He also said that under the program, moringa or sahjan plant saplings are being distributed to malnourished families. Claiming that in the eight years of his government, the forest cover in the state has increased from 9 per cent to 10 per cent, the CM said that UP ranks second in India in terms of green cover growth. 'From 2017 to 2024, UP has seen an increase of 5 lakh acres in green cover. And from 2017 to 2023, there has been an increase of 3.38 lakh acres in green cover,' the CM told the public representatives. Urging public representatives to undertake the 'Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam' campaign as a public movement and spreading awareness, he stressed the importance of everyone participating in the plantation campaign 'to ensure a better environment for future generations'. He also asked public representatives to undertake the tree plantation drive along rivers, ponds, and in urban parks and open spaces. This year's plantation drive is expected to be the biggest to date, with involvement of 25 crore citizens.
