Parnaik calls on Prez, highlights Arunachal's role in Viksit Bharat

In the meeting, the governor apprised the President of the ongoing developmental progress in Arunachal Pradesh and the state govt's unwavering commitment to contribute meaningfully to the national vision of Viksit Bharat through its localised roadmap of Viksit Arunachal. He highlighted key initiatives and transformative efforts being undertaken across various sectors to uplift the lives of the people and ensure inclusive growth in the frontier state. Parnaik also briefed the President on the follow-up actions and compliance related to the key points discussed during the last governors' conference, reaffirming the state's dedication to national priorities and cooperative federalism. He underlined the importance of these efforts in building a more resilient and equitable society in the state's remote and diverse regions. He also highlighted the Raj Bhavan's proactive role in advancing public health, particularly in the fight against tuberculosis, promoting women's empowerment, youth development, and supporting improvements in health and education. Earlier, the governor presented the President with a copy of 'Orchids of Arunachal Pradesh' to Murmu, a meticulously compiled, unique, visually rich and comprehensive reference book, which showcases the diversity of orchid species found in Arunachal, many of which are rare, endemic and of global botanical significance.

Parnaik informed the President about the state government's commitment to contributing to 'Viksit Bharat' through its region-specific roadmap – 'Viksit Arunachal'. He highlighted the key measures being implemented to uplift lives of people and ensure inclusive growth in the frontier state, a Raj Bhavan release said. The governor also briefed the President on the follow-up actions and compliance measures related to critical issues discussed during the last governors' conference, it said. Parnaik outlined the Raj Bhavan's proactive role in promoting public health, particularly in the fight against tuberculosis, alongside efforts in women's empowerment, youth development, and the enhancement of health and education sectors. During the meeting, Parnaik presented Murmu with a copy of Orchids of Arunachal Pradesh, a comprehensive reference book showcasing the state's orchid diversity, the release said. Parnaik made the remark when he called on Assam governor Lakshman Prasad Acharya at the Raj Bhavan in Guwahati. As enablers and constitutional heads of the state, the two had a cordial exchange of views on key regional issues and collaborative opportunities concerning both the states, while reaffirming their shared commitment to peace, progress and prosperity for the people of the northeast, an official statement from the Raj Bhavan said. Drawing from his experience as a former Corps commander in Tezpur, he expressed concern regarding the challenges posed by illegal immigration and emphasised the need for continued vigilance and effective administrative measures to address the issue. Highlighting the potential of the Act East Policy and the 'Rising Northeast' initiative, the governor described them as game-changers in the development narrative of the region. He underlined the northeast's immense promise in manufacturing, services and entrepreneurship, and its emerging role as a hub for regional and international cooperation. The governor also shared his concern with his Assam counterpart over the annual devastation caused by floods and landslides, particularly the loss of lives and economic hardships inflicted on vulnerable communities. Krishna Chowlu conferred ‘Land of Rising Sun' plaque
1 2 Itanagar: Arunachal Pradesh governor KT Parnaik on Monday presented the prestigious 'Land of Rising Sun' plaque to Krishna Chowlu at the Raj Bhavan here. Chowlu, scientist in-charge of the Botanical Survey of India, Arunachal Pradesh Regional Centre, was conferred the recognition for her discovery and documenting the unique orchid species of the state. The governor lauded Chowlu's tireless efforts and scientific spirit in unveiling the rich floral diversity of the state, especially her remarkable work in identifying rare and exclusive orchid species, an official statement from the Raj Bhavan said. Highlighting the exceptional significance of the exquisite orchids of the state, he said these vibrant and delicate blooms are not just beautiful but they are living symbols of the state's pristine natural heritage and ecological richness. Parnaik added that Arunachal holds a special place in India's biodiversity map, with nearly 50 orchid species found nowhere else in the world. These rare species, he noted, reflect the untouched and pure environment of the region, and their preservation and study are of great value to both scientific research and eco-tourism. Emphasising the importance of exploring, conserving, and promoting orchids, he urged educational institutions to take the lead in this initiative. "Engaging students in such efforts would not only deepen their understanding of biodiversity but also foster a sense of responsibility and appreciation for the rich natural heritage of their region," he said. Chowlu added that there are 650 species of orchids in the state, which is the highest in India. Fifty orchids are exclusively found in Arunachal Pradesh. A specialist in angiosperm taxonomy with a focus on the orchidaceae family, she is renowned for her contributions to plant discovery in the state. She discovered Impatiens dorjeekhanduii in Tawang (2017), named in honour of former CM Dorjee Khandu, and more recently identified a unique leafless orchid, Gastrodia lohitensis, in Lohit district (2024), which survives without sunlight. On the occasion, Chowlu presented her book, Orchids of Arunachal Pradesh, to the governor.
