Report: 76ers picks up $8.4M option on F Kelly Oubre Jr.

The Philadelphia 76ers picked up the one-year, $8.4 million contract option for forward Kelly Oubre Jr. in 2025-26, ESPN reported Sunday. Oubre, 29, averaged 15.1 points with 6.1 rebounds and 1.8 assists in 60 games (57 starts) with the 76ers last season. He has produced at least 15.0 points per game in each of the last seven seasons. In 10 NBA seasons, Oubre has averaged 13.3 points with 4.6 rebounds and 1.1 assists in 655 games (311 starts) for the Washington Wizards (2015-19), Phoenix Suns (2019-20), Golden State Warriors (2020-21), Charlotte Hornets (2021-23) and 76ers. While Oubre will be back in Philadelphia for 2025-26, guards Eric Gordon and Lonnie Walker IV reportedly won't be. Gordon declined his $3.4 million player option to test free agency, while the Sixers declined Walker's $2.9 million team option, according to ESPN. Gordon, 36, appeared in 39 games (13 starts) in his first season in Philadelphia before undergoing arthroscopic wrist surgery in February. He put up 6.8 points per game after averaging double-figure points in each of his previous 16 NBA seasons. Walker, 26, began the season with EuroLeague club Zalgiris Kaunas in Lithuania before the Sixers brought in the Pennsylvania native in February. He played in just 20 games (seven starts) but put up 12.4 points, 3.2 rebounds and 2.5 assists per game, all of which represent career highs. After four seasons with the San Antonio Spurs, Walker spent one apiece with the Los Angeles Lakers and Brooklyn Nets. --Field Level Media Field Level Media 2023 - All Rights Reserved

Stay or go: 5 NBA stars with player options (and which should decline)

The clock is starting to tick a lot faster for a number of NBA stars to opt into their contracts for the 2025-26 season. Following this week's NBA Draft, players and teams with contract options available have until June 29 to make their decisions. That's barely three days for agents and general managers to navigate the fallout of the draft and try to get a sense of what the free agent market will look like. Fortunately for a number of big names with player contract options, the decisions are fairly simple. In fact, we've gone ahead and made the choices for them. Here are five stay or go decisions for stars with a player option to exercise. LeBron James, F, Los Angeles Lakers 2025-26 Salary: $52,627,153 VERDICT: STAY — Easiest decision to stay imaginable. Especially now that there's reporting that this won't be the 40-year-old's final season. James averaged 24.4 points, 7.8 rebounds and 8.2 assists per game. Age is only a number for this guy. James Harden, G, Los Angeles Clippers 2025-26 Salary: $36,346,154 VERDICT: STAY — As tempting as a reunion with Kevin Durant in Houston sounds in theory, Harden is perfect right where he is. The Clippers finished 18 games over .500 and went an impressive 19-5 over the final month of the regular season. Julius Randle, F, Minnesota Timberwolves 2025-26 Salary: $30,935,520 VERDICT: STAY — He's still just 30 years old, playing on a team that made back-to-back Western Conference Finals and contributed 18.7 points per game as a secondary option. It won't get better than this for Randle. Kelly Oubre Jr., G-F, Philadelphia 76ers 2025-26 Salary: $8,382,150 VERDICT: LEAVE — Oubre is another solid piece who can help a contender. It's just not clear if that's what the Sixers at the moment. Until Joel Embiid can prove he's healthy and durable, Oubre is better off chasing rings and cash elsewhere. His 15.1 points per game will be more valuable elsewhere. Bobby Portis, F, Milwaukee Bucks 2025-26 Salary: $13,445,754 VERDICT: LEAVE — While the Bucks figure out whether or not Giannis will be part of their future, Portis is already on record stating he'd like more money. At 30 years old, and averaging 13.9 points and 8.4 rebounds last season, Portis remains a solid contributor who could help plenty of contenders. He might as well take control of his future rather than hand it to the Bucks.

Louisiana lawmakers again reject LGBTQ+ worker discrimination protections

Following a call from a state legislator in June, the head of the Louisiana Department of Health allegedly asked staff to scrub the agency's online accounts of all content related to LGBTQ+ Pride month, according to internal emails the Illuminator has obtained. (Ludovic Bertron, Flickr) For the fourth year in a row, Louisiana legislators have killed a proposal to prohibit employers from discriminating against new hires based on their gender identity or sexual orientation. House Bill 429 by Rep. Delisha Boyd, D-New Orleans, was shot down Thursday on a 4-6 vote in the House Committee on Labor and Industrial Relations, with all Republicans voting against the measure. Boyd has been the sponsor of the proposal all four years it's been killed in the same committee. Though conservatives on the committee raised concerns Boyd's legislation would have placed what they see as excessive regulation on private businesses, Louisiana law already prohibits employment discrimination based on race, color, religion, sex, national origin and cultural hairstyle. Boyd was joined in presenting her bill by Kenny Oubre, an LGBTQ+ New Orleanian who works in human resources. '[The bill] does allow people to bring their entire selves to work, and the data does show, if you're able to bring your entire self to work, you're able to be more productive,' Oubre said. The Louisiana Retailers Association opposed Boyd's legislation. Rep. Roger Wilder, R-Denham Springs, who sponsored legislation last year restricting what bathrooms transgender people can use, raised concerns Boyd's bill would create a slippery slope. 'Is the next bill going to be about furries and now that every company has to put a litter box in the corner?' Wilder asked. 'Where's the line?' Wilder said. 'So do we have any specific examples versus just a conjecture?' Oubre told the committee one of Louisiana's few pediatric cardiologists left Louisiana in 2023 in response to anti-LGBTQ+ legislation state lawmakers had approved as well as the lack of protections for LGBTQ+ people. 'Twenty nine percent of trans people do live in poverty, and that is a direct result of not having job security,' Oubre said. 'So this protection actually allows people to have security, to get a job, to bring their whole selves to work and to be productive.' Sixers will be down 2 more players in road matchup vs. Thunder

The Philadelphia 76ers will continue their road trip on Wednesday when they pay a visit to the West's No. 1 team, the Oklahoma City Thunder. Both teams will be missing some key pieces as the Thunder are resting MVP frontrunner Shai Gilgeous-Alexander and will also be missing Lu Dort and All-Star Jalen Williams, but the injury woes for the Sixers will continue. Obviously, Philadelphia was missing so many key pieces, but it was hoping to at least have Kelly Oubre Jr. back in the lineup. Oubre will be ruled out after he was listed as doubtful for the contest. He had been out due to a right knee sprain as of late so a doubtful tag was an updated for him. Along with Oubre, the Sixers will be without two-way guard Jeff Dowtin Jr. who will be inactive for this contest against the Thunder. On the bright side, Guerschon Yabusele will return and he will be in the starting lineup. Sixers PF Guerschon Yabusele will play tonight vs. the OKC Thunder. Two-way PG Jeff Dowtin Jr. will be inactive. — Keith Pompey (@PompeyOnSixers) March 19, 2025 The Sixers and the Thunder will tip off at 8 p.m. EDT from the Paycom Center on Wednesday.
