JERANTUT, July 22 (Bernama) -- The Jerantut Square integrated development project is expected to be completed next year and bring significant benefits to the people of Pahang, especially in Jerantut, said Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Wan Rosdy Wan Ismail. He said the RM130 million project is expected to generate around 1,000 direct and 5,000 indirect job opportunities. 'The development will include office spaces and convenience stores. We've also engaged with businesses interested in operating here,' he said after officiating the Pahang State Development Corporation's (PKNP) 60th anniversary celebration at the Pahang Rest House @ Jerantut today.

'We welcome investors and will streamline access to facilities,' Wan Rosdy added. At the same event, he launched the upgraded Pahang Rest House @ Jerantut, now offering tourist-friendly accommodations and an event hall. GEORGE TOWN: The Penang-Perak water project is advancing following a high-level meeting between the Perbadanan Kemajuan Negeri Perak (PKNP)–Gamuda Berhad Consortium and the Penang government. Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow said the delegation, which visited on July 3, had received formal approval from Perak to begin negotiations on the sale of treated water to the Penang Water Supply Corporation (PBAPP). "The Penang government welcomed the latest development. Formal negotiations will proceed once the state executive council finalises its official negotiation team," he said in a Facebook post.\ This courtesy visit marks an important milestone in addressing Penang's future water needs. The visiting delegation included PKNP director Datuk Redza Rafiq Abdul Razak, Gamuda Berhad group executive director Datuk Azmi Mat Nor, Gamuda Engineering Berhad director Datuk Szeto Wai Loong, SRS Consortium Sdn Bhd adviser Datuk Seri Dr Ooi Eng Hock and Gamuda Engineering Berhad executive director Faris Yusof Also present during the meeting was PBAPP chief executive officer Datuk Ir. K. Pathmanathan, who played a key role in the state's water supply planning and infrastructure. In March, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim announced that the Penang-Perak water project had reached its final stage of planning. Anwar had said then that the government had outlined a strategy to enhance the capacity of Sungai Perak and develop a direct drainage system to channel water from Bukit Merah to Kerian. It was reported that during the closing of the northern region Madani Rakyat 2024 programme on May 4 last year, Anwar had said that the Sultan of Perak, Sultan Nazrin Shah, and the Perak government under Datuk Seri Saarani Mohamad had agreed to provide water supply to Penang The water supply would flow through the Kerian Integrated Green Industrial Park to Seberang Prai.

GEORGE TOWN, July 4 — Perak has agreed to sell treated water to Penang under the Perak-Penang Water Project, said Penang chief minister Chow Kon Yeow. He said the Penang state government received a courtesy visit from the Perak Development Corporation (PKNP)-Gamuda Berhad (Gamuda) consortium yesterday. 'The visit, among other things, conveyed that the relevant parties have received a mandate from the Perak State Authority to begin negotiations regarding the Perak–Penang Water Project,' he said in a Facebook post here. Chow said they have also agreed to sell treated water to the Penang Water Supply Corporation (PBAPP). 'On behalf of the state government, we welcome this courtesy visit, and further negotiations will be conducted after the Penang State Executive Council (MMK) makes the necessary decision regarding the appointment of the negotiation team,' he said. Present at the meeting were PKNP director Datuk Redza Rafiq Abdul Razak, Gamuda Berhad group executive director Datuk Azmi Mat Nor, Gamuda Engineering Berhad director Datuk Szeto Wai Loong, SRS Consortium Sdn Bhd advisor Datuk Seri Ooi Eng Hock and Gamuda Engineering Berhad executive director Faris Yusof. International space port in Pahang expected to be completed in 3 to 5 years

KUANTAN: The development of the International Space Port in Pahang is expected to be completed as early as the next three to five years, said state Investment, Industry, Science, Technology and Innovation Committee chairman Datuk Mohamad Nizar Mohamad Najib. He said the facility, which will be the first international rocket launch site in Southeast Asia, is expected to create 2,350 job opportunities and generate economic spillover effects, particularly in the tourism and research sectors. 'I was informed that one of the optimal locations for development is along the Equator on the east coast, especially Pahang, and Sabah,' he said during the State Legislative Assembly sitting at Wisma Sri Pahang here today. He was responding to a supplementary question from Chan Chun Kuang (PH-Semambu) on the expected completion timeline and the job creation potential for the project. Mohamad Nizar said the Pahang State Development Corporation (PKNP) signed a Letter of Intent with China Great Wall Industry Corporation and Lestari Angkasa Sdn Bhd on April 15 to establish strategic cooperation in the development of the space technology sector in Malaysia. 'PKNP and Lestari Angkasa Sdn Bhd will also conduct a working visit to Wenchang Space City in Hainan, China, in May as part of a feasibility study and planning phase for the International Space Port project in Pahang,' he said in response to Chan's question on the current status of the project. Meanwhile, he said the state government is currently evaluating two proposals to develop an Aerospace City, covering the areas of Gebeng, Kuantan and Pekan. In December 2023, Science, Technology and Innovation Minister Chang Lih Kang was reported as saying that Pahang and Sabah are among the states shortlisted as potential sites for the rocket launch facility.
