New Castle man wins $50,000 playing Delaware Lottery. See where he bought his ticket
A Delaware man recently came away a big winner after playing the Delaware Lottery. A 52-year-old New Castle man, who chose to remain anonymous, won a total of $50,000 playing Delaware Lottery's PLAY 5, according to lottery officials. The winning numbers drawn on May 27 matched the numbers he chose himself using his late father's birthday, officials said. He purchased the ticket at the Shell on 3001 New Castle Ave. near New Castle. The man claimed his prize that day. According to lottery officials, the winner said he discovered days earlier a serious leak in his roof and didn't have the funds to fix it. After praying for two days, he felt compelled to buy his routine PLAY 5 ticket, but this time he won big. 'Stories like this are a reminder of how meaningful a win can be,' said Helene Keeley, Delaware Lottery director. 'We're thrilled that this prize came at such an important time and that it will help make a real difference in his life.' The winning numbers from the May 27 PLAY 5 drawing were 4-1-3-4-2. Lady Luck smiled on a Wilmington man not once, but twice. A 34-year-old Wilmington man hit Delaware Lottery's PLAY 5 game twice in four days, winning more than $300,000, according to the Delaware Lottery. The man, who has chosen to remain anonymous, claimed two $50,000 tickets and two $10,000 tickets from the June 9 PLAY 5 day drawing after matching all five winning numbers: 1-0-0-0-0. He returned to Delaware Lottery headquarters on June 16 to claim another stunning prize – $200,000 from the June 13 day drawing where he had four tickets each worth $50,000. The winning numbers on the second victory were 5-0-1-5-9. The tickets were purchased at the New Castle Shell in New Castle. The Wilmington man said he's played the lottery for five years and spends about $50 on tickets each time. He picks his numbers. For the June 9 win, he based his number selection on his old phone number. For the second victory, the number was inspired by his grandfather, who often played 5-0-1-5 in PLAY 4. Dover woman hits the lottery twice with the same number. How did she do it?
A 77-year-old Dover woman hit it big in the Delaware lottery in June, winning twice with the same lucky number. The woman, who chose to remain anonymous, won a total of $60,000 from the PLAY 5 day drawing on June 9. She matched all five winning digits for a prize of $50,000, and she also had a second ticket with a boxed bet for another $10,000 win on the same five-digit number, according to the Delaware Lottery. She purchased her winning ticket at Magic 7 Convenience Store in Dover. The Dover woman picks her own numbers and used a number she saw on television that stuck with her, the lottery said. She plans to save some of the winnings and have fun with the rest. 'We're always thrilled when longtime players hit it big,' said Helene Keeley, director of the Delaware Lottery. Women win $1 million, $300,000 in Delaware Lottery instant games
The Delaware Lottery has produced more big winners in June. Three Dover women won a $1 million top prize in the Delaware Lottery 50th Anniversary Instant Game. They bought their ticket at the Royal Farms store on South Salisbury Boulevard in Dover. The number "21" proved to be lucky for the winners. Their ticket was No. 21, and the winning number was 21. Also, one of them was born on the 21st. Delaware Lottery said the anonymous winners planned to pay off the mortgage on a house that they recently bought together. They claimed their prize on June 18. Another $1 million prize remains in the Delaware Lottery 50th Anniversary Instant Game, which costs $50 to play. Another winner struck it big playing the Delaware Lottery's $300,000 PAYOUT Instant Game. A 49-year-old woman from Bear won the grand prize of $300,000 with a ticket bought at the Food Lion in Newark. Delaware Lottery said the money would help her cover her two children's college tuition. A 74-year-old man from Smyrna won a total of $75,000, and a 72-year-old man from Townsend won $50,000 after playing Delaware Lottery's PLAY 5, according to lottery officials. The man from Smyrna, who chose to remain anonymous, earned his win across three tickets, all with the same winning numbers. He purchased the tickets at Larry's Liquors on North Dupont Highway in Dover, officials said.
