Ensure adequate daytime power supply to pumpsets: Additional chief secretary
Mysuru: Additional chief secretary (energy department) Gaurav Gupta on Friday said that to ensure adequate daytime electricity supply to irrigation pumpsets, the Chamundeshwari Electricity Supply Corporation Limited (CESC) must work towards implementing the Kusum-C scheme quickly and effectively to become Karnataka's No. 1 ESCOM. Speaking at the review meeting here, he said, "The Kusum-C scheme will be highly beneficial in providing 7 hours of electricity during the day to farmers' agricultural pumpsets. If implemented effectively, the farmers' electricity issues will be resolved. Officials should work towards this goal". Additionally, land issues need to be resolved, and efforts should be made to acquire the necessary land for the scheme by engaging with entrepreneurs and farmers, he advised. "Assistant executive engineers should work actively and respond promptly to any issues that arise. Otherwise, we may face public anger. Therefore, work responsibly," said Gaurav Gupta. "There should be more effective work in areas such as billing, meter reading, meter inspection, and preventing illegal electricity connections. Nagpur: In a proactive measure to ensure food security and healthcare for communities living in remote hamlets, the Gadchiroli district administration equipped 112 villages, which are cut-off during monsoon, with ration and a three-month stock of critical medicines under the Navsanjivani scheme. Tired of too many ads? go ad free now The initiative is targeting 154 villages that are affected by floods, with supplies reaching 151 shops, with an aim that no household goes without basic grains during the rainy season. While the district supply department dispatched rations to these villages, the health department distributed vital medicines to primary health centres (PHCs), sub-centres, and ASHA and Anganwadi workers in Navsanjivani villages, said an official, adding that collector Avishyant Panda has reviewed the flood preparedness. The essential medicines include ORS, antibiotics (Amoxicillin, Doxycycline), antimalarials (ACT, Primaquine), anti-snake venom, and hypertension and diabetes medications (Amlodipine, Metformin). In areas lacking ASHA workers, Anganwadi workers are managing the distribution. To tackle emergencies, 299 'apatti mitra' or disaster friends and a 38-member rescue team stationed at district headquarters are on standby. The district administration promptly deployed JCBs and disaster management teams, successfully rescuing both vehicles with all passengers safe. A private bus carrying around 50 passengers was stuck in deep water near Thanegaon on the Gadchiroli-Armori road. Upon receiving an alert, the administration dispatched JCBs and a heavy-duty vehicle, enabling the disaster management team to extract the bus. Similarly, a state transport bus with 23 passengers stalled near the Gadhavi River bridge on the Gadchiroli-Nagpur National Highway due to engine failure. The administration swiftly sent a JCB to tow the bus to safety. No injuries were reported in either incident. The district administration arranged temporary shelter and meals for the passengers through local gram panchayats. District collector Avishyant Panda directed police to install barricades on all roads with water flow to prevent vehicles from crossing flooded areas. Incessant rain, 168mm in Desaiganj and 145.6mm in Korchi in the last 24 hours, flooded 19 critical roads, including Gadchiroli-Armori, Desaiganj-Arjuni, and Kurkheda-Malewada, stranding commuters. Overflowing rivers and drains, coupled with Gosekhurd dam's release of 8,000 cumecs (set to rise to 12,500 cumecs), worsened the crisis. The Disaster Management Department urged riverside villagers to remain vigilant as flooding disrupted life across the district, with no immediate relief in sight.

Centre reviews implementation of tribal welfare schemes in Paderu
Paderu (ASR District): Section Officer from the Central Tribal Affairs (New Delhi) Aditya Ghosain visited tribal areas in Paderu mandal on Sunday to review the implementation of various Central government schemes aimed at the welfare and development of Particularly Vulnerable Tribal Groups (PVTGs). As part of his visit, he inspected coffee plantations in Modapalli village and interacted with local farmers to understand the income generated from coffee and pepper cultivation. The farmers informed him that they earn nearly Rs 1 lakh per acre annually from these crops. At Munthamamidi village under Vanugupalli Panchayat, Aditya inspected a multi-purpose building constructed at a cost of Rs 60 lakh and discussed its usage with local officials. He also visited the PVTG villages of Sappiputtu and Modapalli under Vantadapalli and Modapalli panchayats respetively. There, he reviewed the houses built under the Pradhan Mantri Janman scheme and expressed satisfaction with their quality and progress. He assured that the Centre is releasing funds under the PM Janman housing scheme and advised beneficiaries to complete construction quickly and move into their new homes. He also enquired about the bills and expenditures related to completed houses. Anganwadi buildings in Sappiputtu and Modapalli villages were also inspected. Aditya emphasised the need to raise awareness about the PM Janman schemes and DAI Juga programmes among the tribal population. ITDA assistant project officer M Venkateswara Rao, Tribal Welfare Department AE Durgaprasad, TRICOR assistants N Sitaramaiah, PMU officer Rajesh, and other officials accompanied him during the visit.

Welfare assistance worth ₹2.92 crore distributed to SC/ST beneficiaries in Coimbatore
Welfare assistance worth ₹2.92 crore was distributed to 66 beneficiaries in Coimbatore on Thursday during a visit by Justice S. Tamilvanan, chairperson of the Tamil Nadu State Commission for the Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes. The distribution took place at the Collectorate, where the Chairperson chaired a review meeting with senior district officials. The meeting focused on the implementation of welfare schemes for Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes and the availability of basic amenities in hostels and residential settlements. Following the review, petitions from members of the SC/ST communities regarding various issues, including patta allotments and access to basic facilities were submitted. Speaking to the media, the Chairperson said the Commission had carried out field inspections to assess the infrastructure at hostels and housing colonies meant for SC/ST communities. Directions had been given to the district administration to address any gaps identified during the inspections. The government assistance under multiple schemes was distributed to 66 beneficiaries. This included forest rights pattas for 10 persons and land titles worth ₹1.92 lakh for 8 others. Housing allotment orders were issued to 10 beneficiaries under the Tamil Nadu Urban Habitat Development Board, with a total value of ₹86.84 lakh. Three beneficiaries received subsidised loans amounting to ₹72.51 lakh under the Annal Ambedkar Entrepreneur Scheme through the District Industries Centre. Under the Kalaignarin Kanavu Illam scheme, housing allotment orders worth ₹6.20 lakh were given to two beneficiaries, while two more received housing assistance totalling ₹10.17 lakh under the PM Janman scheme. Through TAHDCO, loans worth ₹17.36 lakh were extended to three persons. Five beneficiaries received educational assistance of ₹7,000 each. In addition, the Department for the Welfare of the Differently Abled provided modern prosthetic limbs worth ₹5.35 lakh to five persons and a tricycle worth ₹9,200 to one person. The total value of all assistance provided during the visit amounted to ₹2.92 crore.

Over 6,900 PMAY houses remain unfinished in Vizianagaram district
VISAKHAPATNAM: Of the nearly 11,000 houses sanctioned under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana ( PMAY ) several years ago, only 41% have been completed in Vizianagaram district , with 6,924 houses yet to be finished. Despite the govt sanctioning additional funds for housing construction, several beneficiaries have not come forward to build their homes. Officials suspect that some beneficiaries are not participating because they already own a house. Vizianagaram district collector Dr BR Ambedkar said that the list of such individuals should be verified by visiting each household, and a report with supporting evidence should be submitted within two days. The houses sanctioned to such individuals will be cancelled, the collector clarified. The collector conducted a review meeting on the progress of housing in the district at the collectorate. Speaking on this occasion, Dr Ambedkar questioned the slow progress in housing completion in Bobbili and Vizianagaram urban areas. Officials explained that the delay was partly due to a lack of water supply and theft of borewells, and that letters have been sent to the municipal commissioners regarding this. The collector ordered that action be taken to ensure all borewells become operational within two days. He also directed that door-to-door awareness campaigns be conducted regarding the additional financial support being provided by the govt. Daily targets should be set to speed up the work, and weekly reviews will be conducted going forward. He instructed that the 4,096 newly submitted applications for house sites be verified. "Another 2,500 manually submitted applications should be coordinated with the respective tahsildars to verify eligibility. Housing should be provided to everyone and that the list of beneficiaries sanctioned under the PM Janman schemes should also be verified," added Dr Ambedkar.
