‘Maintain strict vigil at EVM storage facility'
Kurnool District Collector P Ranjith Basha has directed officials to maintain round-the-clock strict surveillance at the EVM (Electronic Voting Machines) storage facility. He issued these instructions during a quarterly inspection of the godown, conducted in accordance with the guidelines of the Election Commission of India. The inspection was carried out on Friday at the EVM godown located within the Collectorate premises, in the presence of representatives from various political parties. The Collector meticulously examined the storage of EVMs and reviewed the existing security arrangements inside the facility. Officials demonstrated the safeguards in place, and the Collector verified compliance with protocols. The transparent inspection aimed to build confidence among stakeholders regarding the secure handling of EVMs. Participating in the inspection were District Revenue Officer Venkata Narayanamma, Election Department Superintendent Murali and political party representatives including Sai Pradeep (BJP), Manjunath (Jana Sena), Arun Kumar (Bahujan Samaj Party district In-charge), P. Raju (Vice President, Telugu Yuvatha - TDP) and Bajaranna (Congress).

Call to make Kurnool a drug-free district
Kurnool: In observance of International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking, district Collector P Ranjith Basha called for united efforts to transform the district into a drug-free zone. Speaking at a programme at the district Collectorate on Thursday, he underscored the devastating impact of drug abuse on youth and society. He stressed the importance of awareness campaigns, community participation, and strict surveillance measures. He also urged parents to encourage children to engage in sports and cultural activities as a means of keeping them away from harmful influences. The Collector detailed government initiatives aimed at curbing drug abuse, such as inter-departmental coordination meetings, awareness drives in schools and colleges, rehabilitation services, and a toll-free number (1972) for confidential reporting of drug-related activities. He called upon citizens to play an active role in reporting drug supply or consumption in their communities. MP B Nagaraju reiterated the government's goal of achieving 'Ganja-free Andhra Pradesh', highlighting the use of drone and satellite surveillance to detect and eliminate cannabis cultivation. DIG Koya Praveen provided historical context on drug cultivation in the region and credited the current administration for its strict crackdown on such practices. MLA Gouru Charitha observed that drug usage had spread into rural areas but noted that the government's proactive measures, including special committees and dedicated officers, had led to a significant decline in cannabis growth. SP Vikrant Patil warned of severe legal consequences under NDPS Act, while also highlighting the importance of rehabilitation for addicts. Mayor BY Ramayya urged parents to monitor their children's behavior and financial habits. An anti-drug awareness rally was held from Raj Vihar Center to the Collectorate.

6 childcare institutions got approval for operation in Kurnool dist
Kurnool: District Collector P Ranjith Basha has issued approvals for the operation of six childcare institutions (CCIs) found eligible under Juvenile Justice Act. The decision was made during a meeting of district-level recommendation committee held at the Collector's camp office on Wednesday. Speaking at the meeting, Collector Ranjith stated that as per the Juvenile Justice (Care and Protection of Children) Act, 2015, registration certificates would be issued to eligible childcare institutions only after thorough inspections and recommendations by the district committee. A total of nine institutions—run by both government and NGOs—submitted applications for registration. Upon verification of infrastructure and adherence to prescribed standards, six institutions were found eligible and recommended for operation. The Collector also inquired about the functioning of Juvenile Observation Homes and Shishu Gruhas (children's homes) from the ICDS Project Director. He emphasised that CCIs should be managed in a structured and child-friendly manner to ensure the well-being and safety of all children under their care. The meeting was attended by Additional SP Hussain Peer, District Probation Officer Diwakar, ICDS PD Nirmala, Child Welfare Committee chairperson Zubeda Begum, DCPU Officer Sharada, Juvenile Justice Board member Sunitha, Observation Home Superintendent Basha, and other key officials of child welfare and juvenile justice administration.

Govt depts must work in coordination to ensure smooth GST compliance: Collector
Kurnool: Kurnool District Collector P Ranjith Basha on Tuesday directed all government departments to work in close coordination to ensure the smooth and lawful payment of Goods and Services Tax (GST). Chairing a coordination meeting with officials from various departments at the Collectorate's camp office, he emphasized the need for effective inter-departmental cooperation to facilitate proper GST compliance, especially by businesses and contractors associated with government departments. He instructed officials to assist the Commercial Taxes Department in ensuring that eligible taxpayers, particularly those engaged with government departments, are paying GST as mandated by law. 'Business operators and contractors who are functioning without proper registration must be brought under the GST net,' he asserted. Collector Basha also directed revenue department officials to actively support the Commercial Taxes Department in identifying defaulters and initiating recovery proceedings against properties of non-compliant entities. He further stressed that departments like Mining and Transport should work collaboratively with Commercial Taxes to prevent tax evasion involving the use of fake documents and illegal transportation of goods. Special attention was also drawn to engineering departments to ensure that contractors under their purview are complying with GST norms. In addition, he urged officials to take necessary steps to ensure professional tax compliance by employees working with private firms, outsourcing agencies, and other government departments. To strengthen awareness and implementation, the Collector instructed the Commercial Taxes Department to conduct orientation sessions for officers from all concerned departments regarding GST regulations.

Preparations underway for International Yoga Day
Kurnool: The Kurnool district administration is making extensive arrangements to celebrate International Yoga Day on June 21 with massive public participation across the district. District Collector P Ranjith Basha has instructed all departments and officials concerned to ensure the event is conducted on a grand scale and in a well-coordinated manner. Chairing a teleconference with RDOs, MPDOs, municipal commissioners, tahsildars, and special officers on Thursday morning, the Collector reviewed the progress of the state-wide 'Yogandhra' campaign. He announced that the district has successfully met its registration targets for the programme, and 91% of registered citizens have already been mapped to certified yoga trainers. However, he pointed out that Alur, Adoni Municipality, and C Belagal mandals have shown delays in the mapping process. He directed the respective MPDOs and the Adoni Municipal Commissioner to accelerate efforts and avoid any negligence, noting that the Chief Minister is giving high priority to this initiative. He further instructed mandal special officers to monitor and review the progress regularly. Expressing concern over delays in uploading training programme data online, he stated that show-cause notices would be issued to the Alur MPDO and Adoni Municipal Commissioner for non-compliance. On June 14, a district-wide rehearsal of mass yoga demonstrations will be conducted with all registered participants. On June 17, a special thematic yoga session involving 5,000 sanitation workers will be organized at the Outdoor Stadium in Kurnool city. The Collector instructed the Kurnool Municipal Commissioner to make all necessary arrangements for the event, including venue readiness, logistics, and participant coordination. The district administration aims to achieve record participation with over 10.65 lakh people expected to take part in the International Yoga Day celebrations across Kurnool. Among those who participated in the teleconference were Joint Collector Dr B Navya, Kurnool Municipal Commissioner Ravindra Babu, ZP CEO Nasar Reddy, and SETKUR CEO Venugopal, along with other key district officials.
