Three B'deshis held for illegal stay in Ahilyanagar for 2 years

Pune: In a joint operation with the Military Intelligence (MI) of the Southern Command, Ahilyanagar police on Friday arrested three Bangladesh nationals for illegally staying in the Pokhardi industrial zone for the last two years. The police and the MI are searching for an agent named 'Pappu', who has been allegedly facilitating illegal immigrants from the India-Bangladesh border for the last few years. The arrested suspects managed to obtain Aadhaar and PAN cards at a centre in Thane district. "We are investigating how they managed to make such original-looking documents. With these documents, they could open their bank accounts. We are trying to establish how these immigrants come in contact with the local industries where they have been working for the last few months," said senior inspector Manik Chaudhari from the MIDC police station, where an FIR has been lodged. Once they manage to bring them to India, these illegal immigrants stay for a few weeks in Kolkata and then move to other cities in the country. " "These agents, with the help of their network in towns and cities, manage to secure their basic documents. Within a few months, they create Aadhaar and PAN cards for the immigrants. They charge a hefty amount from these immigrants," added the officer.

Student's suicide in Rourkela takes new turn as dad accuses school of torture

ROURKELA: The suicidal death of a Class X student of a reputed English medium school here has taken a new turn with his family members accusing the school administration of harassing and mentally torturing the teenager, leading him to take the extreme step. After returning from school on June 4, Tanmay Mahawar (15) had hanged himself to death from the ceiling fan at his residence in Daily Market area within Plant Site police limits. Attributing his son's death to the harassment by the school principal and others over an old issue, Tanmay's father Pappu Mahawar on Friday evening filed a complaint in the local police station. Pappu said the school administration had lodged a complaint against his son with Sector-19 police. He was summoned by police on May 2 and informed that Tanmay in January had uploaded a cartoon reel (video) of the principal and teachers on Instagram. Tanmay was counselled by police and he as a parent tendered a written apology following which the issue was settled amicably in presence of the school principal. The aggrieved father said the school reopened on June 2 and everything went fine for two days. On June 4, Tanmay returned from school stressed and a few hours later, he died by suicide in his room. 'Before going to his room, Tanmay told me that the principal had asked him to bring his father to the school the next day. Despite all persuasion, my son did not disclose what went wrong in the school. It was his last conversation,' said Pappu. Elder brother Rahul said in a social media chat, Tanmay had told one of his friends that he was stressed due to the school administration's attitude towards him and he feared he might be expelled.

Police bust interstate auto robbery syndicate, recover 8 high-end cars

New Delhi: The Delhi Police Crime Branch has busted an interstate syndicate involved in the theft and resale of high-end vehicles, a statement said on Friday. The gang used a sophisticated modus operandi to sell stolen cars through online platforms by forging documents, opening bank accounts with fake identities, and tampering with engine and chassis numbers. In a series of coordinated operations, the police arrested a key member of the gang and recovered eight luxury vehicles. According to Delhi Police, the breakthrough came with the arrest of Rakesh Patel alias Pappu (38), a core operative of the syndicate, near Sahibabad Railway Station in Ghaziabad on April 21, 2025. Acting on a tip-off, police apprehended him while he was attempting to sell a stolen Maruti Wagon-R via an online platform. Patel, a resident of Sahibabad, Ghaziabad (UP), and originally from Mohiuddin Nagar, Samastipur (Bihar), played a central role in managing theft operations and delivering stolen vehicles across states. His associates arranged vehicles, counterfeit documents, and fake number plates. The gang's method was notably elaborate. After stealing a car, they searched online car-selling portals for vehicles of the same make, model, and colour. Using open-source information, they identified details of genuine owners and forged documents in the owner's name -- featuring the photograph of one of the accused. They also opened bank accounts using these fake identities. To avoid detection, the syndicate would tamper with the stolen car's engine and chassis numbers to match those of the legitimate vehicle. Fake Registration Certificates (RCs) were then prepared, making the stolen car appear genuine. Once the vehicle was thus 'cloned,' it was listed for sale on online platforms. The syndicate targeted high-demand vehicles, often choosing cars parked in low-surveillance or roadside areas. The police noted the gang's use of advanced technological tools to support their operations. A team led by Inspector Arun Sindhu of the Crime Branch spearheaded the investigation, which led to the arrest and recovery of the stolen vehicles.
