The secret to Shruti Haasan's thick and long hair is…

Shruti Haasan's long and luscious hair adds to her ethereal beauty and charm. In a recent podcast episode of The Ranveer Show, the Coolie actor opened up about the secret to her beautiful mane. 'I use sesame oil. Sesame mixed with coconut, or sesame mixed with almond, depending on my mind. But I have realised, sesame has worked miracles for my hair,' she told host Ranveer Allahabia, adding that she oils her hair before every wash. According to Dr Ruben Bhasin Passi, Consultant, Dermatology, CK Birla Hospital, Gurugram, sesame oil is renowned in classical Ayurvedic hair care and contemporary hair care for its many advantages to scalp and hair health. 'Packed with essential fatty acids, vitamin E, B-complex vitamins, and minerals such as magnesium and calcium, sesame oil intensely moisturises the scalp, fortifies the hair follicles, and induces hair growth. Its inherent antibacterial and antifungal action can serve to curtail dandruff and calm inflamed or irritated scalp conditions,' he said. Dr Passi added that sesame oil also has a natural sunscreen quality that prevents damage to hair from UV light, and the antioxidants in it are said to fight premature aging of the hair. 'Sesame oil massages with warm oil stimulate blood flow to the scalp, continuing to promote hair health and relaxation,' said the expert. Neha Ahuja, Ayurveda expert and founder of Kaashi Wellness, shared that Ayurveda considers sesame oil to be the richest among all oils. 'Scientifically known as Sesamum indicum or 'til thaila' in Sanskrit, sesame oil is a common ingredient in cosmetic and medicinal products. Traditionally, til thaila is known to be highly transformative because of its warming and calming effects on the nadi or nervous system,' she said. Moreover, it has highly hydrating, nourishing, and moisturising properties that work exceptionally well on vata body types. 'Ayurveda looks upon sesame oil as the king of oils, as it is capable of holistically addressing multiple benefits, including the elimination of pathogens, improving immunity, and balancing the ojas or energy,' Ahuja told This oil is considered a solution for people who suffer from headaches, hair fall, and more, along with being an excellent natural oil for good sleep. Thanks to its mystical properties, til thaila is capable of balancing tridoshas, and a simple application on joints ensures relief from pain and stiffness of muscles,' mentioned Ahuja. However, using this oil comes with a cautionary note. 'People with sensitive skin or who are allergic to nuts should patch test before repeated use, though, because sesame oil is an allergen in occasional cases. Also, overuse of it without thorough cleaning can cause scalp buildup or blocked pores,' said Dr Passi, further advising applying sesame oil once in 2 weeks — preferably as a pre-shampoo treatment. 'Overnight oiling is not recommended for better results,' he added.

Adult acne, dull skin, hair loss: Skincare tips every man should know

There's more to men's skincare than just a quick face wash and shave. Many men in their 30s and 40s are battling acne, hair loss, pigmentation, and premature ageing—and most of them feel clueless about what's happening or how to fix it. According to Dr Ruben Bhasin Passi, Consultant Dermatologist at CK Birla Hospital, Gurugram, men often deal with adult acne, oily skin, dullness, dark spots, fine lines, hair fall, and itchy scalps. Add to that shaving irritation and flaky skin, especially around the nose and forehead. 'These issues are driven by high-stress jobs, late nights, poor diets, and general neglect of skincare,' said Dr Passi. How do lifestyle habits like stress and screen time damage men's skin? Dr Passi explained that daily habits and routines silently impact skin health, leading to dullness, spots, and ageing. These are some common culprits men often overlook: Stress raises cortisol (the stress hormone), triggering acne and hair loss Late nights prevent skin repair, making it look tired and aged Poor diets and not drinking enough water dry out the skin Smoking reduces blood flow, dulling the complexion Long hours on screens cause pigmentation and dark circles Sun exposure and pollution lead to oxidative stress, sunburn, and premature ageing 'Stress also worsens conditions like psoriasis, eczema, and seborrheic dermatitis,' Dr Passi noted, adding that managing stress and sleep can prevent flare-ups alongside medical treatment. Why does acne keep returning in adult men? According to Dr Passi, adult acne in men often stems from hormonal changes, stress, sweating post-workout, dirty helmets or pillowcases, shaving irregularities, or using pore-clogging products. Can shaving cause skin problems—and how do you avoid them? Shaving can lead to razor bumps, infected hair follicles (folliculitis), and painful ingrown hairs. Dr Passi recommends: Using a clean, sharp blade Shaving in the direction of hair growth Wetting the skin with warm water before shaving Using a mild gel and moisturising after shaving Considering laser hair reduction for chronic issues How serious are hair loss and dandruff in young men? Male-pattern baldness is now seen even before 35, said Dr Passi. Stress, poor diet, smoking, and lack of sleep worsen it. Dandruff, itching, and scalp acne are also widespread. To manage these issues, she advised: Using medicated lotions or sprays like minoxidil (under doctor supervision) Taking prescription tablets in some cases Eating a balanced diet rich in protein, iron, and vitamins Using anti-dandruff shampoos with ingredients like ketoconazole or zinc What's a simple skincare routine for busy men? Dr Passi suggests this no-fuss routine: Cleanser: Wash your face twice daily Moisturiser: Use a light, non-greasy one Sunscreen: Always use SPF 30 or higher—even indoors If you have time, scrub once or twice a week and consider adding Vitamin C serum or retinol (if prescribed) for brighter skin. Which skincare ingredients should men look for—and avoid? Here's what Dr Passi recommends: Choose: For oily/acne-prone skin: Salicylic acid, niacinamide, tea tree oil For dry skin: Hyaluronic acid, glycerin, ceramides For dark spots: Vitamin C, kojic acid For ageing skin: Retinol, peptides, antioxidants Avoid: Harsh scrubs and soaps Alcohol-based aftershaves Heavy fragrances and oil-based products if prone to acne Do men need sunscreen indoors too? Yes. Dr Passi warns that sunlight through windows and long exposure to screens can still damage your skin and cause dark spots. Use a matte-finish sunscreen every day. It's not just about looking good—skin health matters 'Men's skincare is about staying healthy,' said Dr Passi. 'A nutritious diet, enough sleep, staying hydrated, and regular workouts all improve your skin. Better blood circulation gives you a glow, and lowered stress reduces flare-ups.'

At Cannes, celebrity Delhi entrepreneur Shalini Passi stood for fashion & culture 'without saying a word'

Known for always bringing her A-game when it comes to fashion, Shalini Passi made heads turn with her debut at the Cannes Film Festival 2025. An art patron, philanthropist, collector, and founder of the MASH (My Art Shalini) initiative, Passi has long been a force in the worlds of contemporary art and design. Last year, she stormed reality TV with Fabulous Lives vs Bollywood Wives. For her, therefore, Cannes was a canvas—the Chopard Love Party, the Global Gift Gala, the India Pavilion—her itinerary and exclusive couture dinners were about making Indian design and textile traditions visible to the world. Passi's red carpet appearance in a custom Manish Malhotra gown featuring artwork by painter Paresh Maity, was the moment Indian couture found a powerful, contemporary voice on an international stage. 'This gown was more than just couture; it was a canvas,' she tells TMS. The design paid tribute to India's vast cultural landscape, from Kashmir to Kanyakumari, fusing textile, craft, and modern artistry. Paired with Manish Malhotra jewellery and a sculptural Judith Leiber clutch, the look was an ode to Indian craftsmanship. 'It brought together textile, craft, and art of the country in a truly immersive way,' she says. 'I wanted to showcase how Indian couture can hold its own on a global red carpet, not just as fashion, but as storytelling through fabric and form.' Cultural advocacy Her consistent choice to spotlight Indian designers — whether through a handwoven saree or a maroon Amit GT gown — is an act of cultural advocacy. 'I see fashion as soft diplomacy. It creates cultural bridges without saying a word,' she says. Her pink-and-white custom saree worn to the India Pavilion echoed this ethos. A modern interpretation steeped in tradition, it nodded to Diana Vreeland's quip that 'pink is the navy blue of India' and symbolised the quiet power of Indian identity on an international platform. At the Hollywood Reporter Dinner, Passi's decision to wear Amit GT in deep maroon instead of the initially planned white was a thoughtful choice in sync with the historic, Belle Époque setting of the Carlton Hotel. 'It was about showing that Indian fashion can capture vintage glamour in a way that feels global,' she says. Stepping into the haute couture with Dolce & Gabbana at Dolce dinner was a conscious choice. 'The theme was Italian Diva, and I love how Dolce & Gabbana craft drama through tailoring and fabric.' While comfort was the key, the haute couture ensemble allowed her to remain true to the theatrical elegance of the evening. The Global Gift Gala, hosted by Eva Longoria and Lauren Brody, was about 'glamour for a cause' and Passi's choice of a Dolly J gown was more than just style. The sari-like trail and intricate embroidery carried a deeper message — one of philanthropy, intention, and celebration of Indian artisanship. She says, 'Fashion can amplify causes when it's intentional, and this was my way of bringing Indian artisanship to a philanthropic conversation. Philanthropy in a glamorous way is something that I have been aiming to bring to India too with the MASH Ball in support of UNICEF.'

Cannes Film Festival 2025: Shalini Passi's Rs 1,45,600 mouth-shaped earrings with off-shoulder white gown exudes Cleopatra energy

With her ethereal fashion choices and sassy diva philosophies, Shalini Passi remains an undisputed fashionista. Gracing the 2025 Cannes Film Festival in a stunning white gown, Passi proved she is synonymous with glamour. Not only her whimsical fit, but her accessories were spell-binding too. Let's dissect her outfit! Channeling siren woman energy, Shalini Passi decided to turn heads in a high-end garb by the Italian fashion designer, Schiaparelli. The brand is known for its edgy, eccentric, and trippy couture. Keeping it monochromatic yet surreal, Passi's dress held a goddess-like charm. The full-length gown featured an off-shoulder silhouette with a straight neckline. The body-hugging dress wrapped Shalini's form gracefully, exuding unparalleled feminine vibes. The tailoring of this dress was mesmerizing as it was ruched at the midriff all the way down to the knees before splitting and forming a train. It also boasted pleats, emerging from the bosom and cascading to the floor, making it an enigmatic flair. The Fabulous Lives of Bollywood Wives fame's accessories for this look were particularly fascinating. Curated from Schiaparelli, she wore an artisanal neckpiece that featured a half-face sculpture, studded with silver accented piercing jewelry and a silver tear drop. The eccentric charm was secured by chunky chains. She further adorned Schiaparelli's mouth-shaped earrings with rhinestone-studded piercings, adding voguish vibes to her fit. These earrings came with a hefty price tag of around Rs 1,45,600. The fashionista also wore a square-shaped ring and a wristband with an eye charm. The quirky gold jewelry with the white gown and Shalini's bewitching aura exuded queen Cleopatra vibes. The style maven carried a swirly, rhinestone-studded bag from the lavish handbag label, Judith Lieber. The bedazzled accessory added a sparkle to her monochrome attire. Shalini paired her white dress with white platform heels from the brand Valentino. The straight-line dress and the significantly high heels gave her form a statuesque appeal, adding to her magical aura. For her make-up, Passi went for a snatched and glowy glam. She flaunted winged eyeliner with golden eyeshadows, exuding femme fatale vibes. The reality TV star boasted a dewy base with blushed-up cheeks and nude pink lips. And yet, it was her lethal aura that captivated the scene. Going for a clean-girl aesthetic, Shalini put her hair up in a sleek ponytail—her luscious, black tresses adding to the diva's surreal energy.

Shalini Passi's diet is reason behind her glowing skin? Know all about Indian patron's nutrition-rich, strict diet

Shalini Passi, who turned heads on the Netflix show Fabulous Lives vs Bollywood Wives, is now all set to make her debut at the prestigious Cannes Film Festival this year. Known for her extravagant fashion sense and bold personality, Passi is not just a social media sensation but also a serious health enthusiast. At 49, she's managed to stay youthful and radiant—and her secret lies in a unique, liquid-heavy diet that keeps her skin glowing and her energy levels high. In an exclusive chat with Pinkvilla, Passi opened up about what she eats in a day, her beauty mantra, and how she chooses wellness over indulgence. No Solid Meals, Just Power-Packed Liquids Shalini's daily routine revolves around a mostly liquid diet. From fresh juices to a variety of soups, her meals are designed not for pleasure but for purpose. She believes that eating for enjoyment often leads to poor choices, so she sticks to what nourishes her body and mind. "I eat to sustain myself, not for enjoyment," she shared. "I'm always working, so I don't have time for elaborate meals. Liquids are easy to digest, help with metabolism, and keep me light and energetic." Morning Routine: Juices, Curd, and More Her day begins at 9 a.m., which she considers her "dinner time" since she follows a unique eating pattern. The first thing she has is a shot of pure cow ghee. This is followed by her signature red juice of beetroot, celery, amla, and ginger. Next comes goat curd, which she consumes in a large glass. This is followed by sprout juice made from raw, sprouted green moong dal. She then drinks a spinach juice mixed with other green vegetables and nuts. Lately, she has also started including a boiled egg in her breakfast. All of these items are nutrient-rich and designed to kickstart her metabolism and support her skin and gut health. Midday Meals: Soups and Fruits Around 12:30 to 1 p.m., she eats what she calls lunch, which consists mainly of different soups. This is followed by five types of fruits, each a different color. According to Shalini, this follows Ayurvedic advice, which recommends eating colorful fruits for balanced nutrition. She also drinks a glass of pomegranate juice and coconut water around this time. By 3 or 3:30 p.m., just before her workout at 4 p.m., she consumes fruits to fuel her exercise routine. Evening Delights: Soups Galore and a Little Meat In the evening, the soup marathon continues. Shalini rotates between various types of vegetable-based soups, including: Green soup: Spinach and broccoli Red soup: Tomato and capsicum Bhindi soup: Not her favorite, but she drinks it anyway Pea and zucchini soup: Heavy but nutritious Daal soup and kala chana soup: Rich in protein Depending on how hungry she feels, she sometimes includes jawar, bajra, or ragi-based soup. Occasionally, she also eats a chila. On days when she doesn't visit the temple, she includes a non-vegetarian dish—usually chicken or fish—in her evening meal. Her dinner usually happens by 6:30 or 7 p.m., never too late. Spicy at Heart Though she follows a strict wellness-based diet, Shalini admits she loves spicy food. Her favorites include Indian, Chinese, and Thai dishes. "I love kadhi chawal and mutton curry," she revealed, adding that these dishes are close to her heart but are rarely part of her routine meals. Interestingly, she doesn't believe in cheat meals. "My diet is for wellness, not for weight loss or being slim," she emphasized. What stands out about Shalini Passi' s diet is not just the unusual ingredients or the liquid form—it's her deep commitment to holistic wellness. She's not trying to follow a trend or shed pounds quickly. Instead, she eats with purpose, mindfulness, and discipline.
