Hemant to chair TAC meet today, BJP boycotts event

1 2 Ranchi: The first Tribes Advisory Council (TAC) meeting since the Hemant Soren Govt 2.0 came to office is scheduled to take place on Wednesday under the chairmanship of chief minister Hemant Soren. TAC is a key body for recommending policies related to tribal schemes and policies. Opposition BJP has boycotted the meeting after accusing the govt of being "anti-tribal", drawing sharp reactions from the ruling camp. The meeting, a first for the current administration after the 2024 assembly polls, will take up crucial issues like development and welfare of the tribal community. Talking to TOI, Congress MLA from Khijri, Rajesh Kachchap, who is also a member of the TAC, said, "Implementation of long-pending PESA rules and ending police station restriction for sale of tribal land will be among the key agendas on the table tomorrow." State BJP president and leader of the opposition in the assembly, Babulal Marandi, said, "Our TAC representatives have decided to boycott the meeting. Under the incumbent JMM-Congress-RJD alliance govt helmed by Hemant Soren since 2019, the tribal community in Jharkhand has been continuously suffering. During the last five and a half years, there have been continuous atrocities against the tribals. Bangladeshi infiltrators are encroaching upon the rights of the tribals, and mining mafia is exploiting the water, forests and land of the state, but the CM is unconcerned about these reeling issues," Marandi said in a statement. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Cinnamon: The Greatest Enemy of Blood Sugar Magazine Glyco Learn More Undo He further said the situation worsened to the extent that compensation was being given by the CM to those attempting to assault tribal women. "When the govt itself is encouraging and rewarding the oppression of tribals, there is no point in attending the TAC meeting. BJP is committed to protecting the identity and existence of the tribal community, and our struggle will continue from the streets to the assembly," he added. Congress hit back at BJP for disrespecting constitutional traditions with the boycott. State Congress's media in-charge Rakesh Sinha said, "It is the same BJP, which during its govt between 2014 and 2019 here, had filed sedition charges against scores of innocent tribals during the Pathalgadi movement. It is now claiming to be pro-tribals. During their tenure, they conspired to hand over tribal lands to corporate companies under the guise of land banks and proposed amendments to the CNT/SPT Act. By not participating in the TAC meeting, BJP is once again attempting to mislead the tribal community of Jharkhand."
