Ranchi: The first
Tribes Advisory Council
(TAC) meeting since the
Hemant Soren
Govt 2.0 came to office is scheduled to take place on Wednesday under the chairmanship of chief minister Hemant Soren.
TAC is a key body for recommending policies related to tribal schemes and policies.
Opposition BJP has boycotted the meeting after accusing the govt of being "anti-tribal", drawing sharp reactions from the ruling camp.
The meeting, a first for the current administration after the 2024 assembly polls, will take up crucial issues like development and welfare of the tribal community.
Talking to TOI, Congress MLA from Khijri, Rajesh Kachchap, who is also a member of the TAC, said, "Implementation of long-pending PESA rules and ending police station restriction for sale of tribal land will be among the key agendas on the table tomorrow."
State BJP president and leader of the opposition in the assembly, Babulal Marandi, said, "Our TAC representatives have decided to boycott the meeting. Under the incumbent JMM-Congress-RJD alliance govt helmed by Hemant Soren since 2019, the tribal community in Jharkhand has been continuously suffering. During the last five and a half years, there have been continuous atrocities against the tribals. Bangladeshi infiltrators are encroaching upon the rights of the tribals, and mining mafia is exploiting the water, forests and land of the state, but the CM is unconcerned about these reeling issues," Marandi said in a statement.

He further said the situation worsened to the extent that compensation was being given by the CM to those attempting to assault tribal women. "When the govt itself is encouraging and rewarding the oppression of tribals, there is no point in attending the TAC meeting. BJP is committed to protecting the identity and existence of the tribal community, and our struggle will continue from the streets to the assembly," he added.
Congress hit back at BJP for disrespecting constitutional traditions with the boycott. State Congress's media in-charge Rakesh Sinha said, "It is the same BJP, which during its govt between 2014 and 2019 here, had filed sedition charges against scores of innocent tribals during the Pathalgadi movement. It is now claiming to be pro-tribals. During their tenure, they conspired to hand over tribal lands to corporate companies under the guise of land banks and proposed amendments to the CNT/SPT Act.
By not participating in the TAC meeting, BJP is once again attempting to mislead the tribal community of Jharkhand."

Bhubaneswar municipal official dragged out of office and assaulted, told to apologise to BJP leader
A group of men on Monday assaulted a municipal official in Bhubaneswar and dragged him out of his office during a weekly grievance hearing session, The Indian Express reported. The official, Additional Commissioner Ratnakar Sahoo of the Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation, alleged in his police complaint that six to seven unknown men entered his chamber and aggressively asked him if he had spoken to a Bharatiya Janata Party leader named Jagannath Pradhan. Sahoo told the men he had spoken to Pradhan on the phone earlier in the day. He alleged that the group then tried to drag him by his shirt collar into a vehicle, demanding that he go to the BJP leader and apologise, The New Indian Express reported. It was not clear what the attackers wanted the official to apologise for. I am utterly shocked seeing this video. Today, Shri Ratnakar Sahoo, OAS Additional Commissioner, BMC, a senior officer of the rank of Additional Secretary was dragged from his office and brutally kicked and assaulted in front of a BJP Corporator, allegedly linked to a defeated… — Naveen Patnaik (@Naveen_Odisha) June 30, 2025 'They beat me brutally in full public view with an attempt to murder, in the presence of public representatives, i.e. corporators of the BMC, BMC officers, staff, and citizens,' Sahoo said in his complaint, according to The Indian Express. He alleged that the assailants also snatched his mobile phone and uploaded scandalous content on his WhatsApp status. Bhubaneshwar Municipal Corporation officials held a day-long protest at the corporation office, seeking that the culprits be immediately arrested. Municipal Commissioner Rajesh Prabhakar Patil urged Police Commissioner S Dev Datta Singh to take stringent action against those involved. He said that the assault on a senior bureaucrat without provocation was demoralising. 'The officer was chairing grievance hearing on my behalf,' the municipal commissioner said, according to The New Indian Express. The police have arrested three persons – a corporator named Jeevan Rout and his associates Rashmi Mahapatra and Debashis Pradhan. Rout had been arrested in January 2024 as well for allegedly attacking an assistant sub-inspector. Pradhan said that the assault on Monday was unfortunate and that he knew two persons involved in the attack, The Indian Express reported. He said that the state's BJP government would not shield anyone and action would be taken against all those involved. Biju Janata Dal chief Naveen Patnaik said on X that he was shocked on seeing the video of the attack. He urged Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi to take exemplary action not just against the perpetrators, but also against the political leaders who allegedly orchestrated the attack. 'The people named by the officer in his FIR have behaved like criminals,' Patnaik said. 'If a senior officer is not safe in his own office, then what law and order will ordinary citizens expect from the Government?'

'Frequent flier PM' off on 5-nation jaunt: Cong takes a jab at Modi
Taking a swipe at Prime Minister Narendra Modi ahead of his visit abroad, the Congress on Tuesday said the "frequent flier PM" is off on a 5-nation "jaunt" and alleged that he is running away from four issues, including the Manipur situation and US President Donald Trump's claims about bringing about a ceasefire between India and Pakistan. Congress general secretary in-charge communications Jairam Ramesh also alleged that the prime minister is running away from the "revelations by defence officials that India suffered reverses in the first two days of Operation Sindoor because of the PM's decisions". Prime Minister Modi will embark on a five-nation tour beginning July 2 to participate in the BRICS Summit in Brazil and expand India's ties with several key nations of the Global South. "When the going gets tough, the self-styled toughs get going. The Super Premium Frequent Flier PM is off on a 5-nation, 8-day jaunt," Ramesh said in a post on X. He is running away from at least four issues that are agitating the nation, Ramesh said. Ramesh alleged that the PM is running away from Manipur, "which he has not visited ever since the double engine in the state got derailed and ever since normal life in the state has got totally destroyed". The Congress leader claimed that PM Modi is also running away from revelations by defence officials that India suffered reverses in the first two days of Operation Sindoor "because of the PM's decisions". His remarks were an apparent reference to the reported comments of India's defence attache to Indonesia. However, the Indian embassy in Indonesia, in a post on X on Sunday, had said that the defence attache's remarks have been "quoted out of context and the media reports are a misrepresentation of the intention and thrust of the presentation made by the speaker". Ramesh also claimed that the PM is running away from the continued claims by President Trump that he effected a ceasefire between India and Pakistan using the trade deal as a carrot and stick. He further alleged that the PM is running away from "the continued failure to bring the Pahalgam terrorists to justice even after 70 days". "The failure is all the more glaring given they may have been earlier involved in terror attacks in Poonch (Dec 2023) and Gagangir & Gulmarg (Oct 2024)," Ramesh said. Besides Brazil, Modi will visit Ghana, Trinidad and Tobago, Argentina, Brazil, and Namibia during the eight-day trip, according to the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA). In the first leg of the visit, Modi will undertake a visit to Ghana from July 2 to 3. From Ghana, Modi will travel to Trinidad and Tobago on a two-day visit from July 3 to 4. In the third leg of his visit, Modi will visit Argentina from July 4 to 5. In the fourth leg of his visit, Modi will travel to Brazil at the invitation of President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva. The prime minister will visit Brazil from July 5 to 8 to attend the 17th BRICS Summit followed by a state visit. In the final leg of his visit, Modi will travel to Namibia.

Operation Kagar: Telangana Congress chief Mahesh Kumar Goud hits back at Amit Shah; defends party's stance on dialogue with Maoists
HYDERABAD: Telangana Congress president B Mahesh Kumar Goud on Monday condemned Union minister Amit Shah 's comments about the grand old party's stand on 'Operation Kagar', launched against the Maoists by the Centre. He questioned what was wrong with asking the Centre to hold talks with the Maoists. "The entire country saw how BJP withdrew from the war against Pakistan at the behest of US President Donald Trump's unilateral diktat to the central govt. What moral right do Amit Shah and BJP have to even question Congress' stand on Naxalites when the Modi govt agreed to a ceasefire and to hold talks with Pakistan, which sponsored terrorists, resulting in the Pahalgam attack?" he told reporters, after inspecting arrangements being made for AICC chief Mallikarjun Kharge's July 4 visit to Telangana. Kharge would address Congress leaders and workers at LB Stadium on July 4. Congress has always prioritised peace, internal security, and national unity. Dialogue and diplomacy should never be seen as weaknesses but rather as tools to protect democracy and resolve internal conflict. The comments made by Amit Shah against Congress were politically motivated, he said. "The BJP govt stopped the war against Pakistan on the directions of Donald Trump. Why has Amit Shah not made any comments on this issue?" he asked.
