Severe thunderstorm warnings issued for Region of Waterloo and northern Perth County
People in the Region of Waterloo and northern Perth County are being urged to prepare for a potentially powerful thunderstorm. Environment Canada issued a severe thunderstorm warning for both areas at 8:45 p.m. Wednesday. The weather office said heavy rain may cause flash flooding and significantly reduce visibility. Severe thunderstorm watches are issued when thunderstorms capable of producing damaging hail, wind or rain are imminent or already occurring. Meanwhile severe thunderstorm watches had previously been issued for several other parts of the province, including northern Wellington County and southern Perth County. Watches are issued when conditions are favourable for the development of severe thunderstorms. Environment Canada said if storms blew through the areas under severe thunderstorm watches, residents could see between 30 to 50 mm of rain per hour, strong winds and hail.
