Impaired driving and assault charges laid at Perth County campground

A man from Cambridge and a man from St. Marys are facing charges after police were called to a campground in West Perth on Friday.
Perth County Ontario Provincial Police, who responded to the campground just before midnight, were told a driver was operating a vehicle while impaired.
Police said when they arrived, the passenger in the vehicle assaulted the officers and then both the passenger and the driver tried to run away.
A 45-year-old Cambridge man was charged with operation while impaired, failure or refusal to comply with a demand, resisting a peace officer, failure to comply with an undertaking and failure to stop for police contrary to the Highway Traffic Act.
A 37-year-old man from St. Marys was also charged with two counts of assaulting a peace officer, assaulting a peace officer with a weapon and resisting a peace officer.
Both men will be appearing in a Stratford court next month.

A 49-year-old Moncton, N.B., woman is dead after two vehicles collided in Berry Mills, N.B., Friday morning. In a statement, RCMP said the crash happened on Berry Mills Road around 9 a.m. AT between a pickup truck and an SUV. Police believe the woman, who was driving the SUV, was travelling northbound when her vehicle crossed the centre line and collided with the pickup truck. RCMP said the woman was the only person in the SUV and was pronounced dead at the scene. There were two people in the pickup truck and they were taken to hospital with injuries that aren't considered life threatening.

Create Account Ontario Provincial Police say the theft occurred in the area of County Rd. 27 and Bayfield St. around 3:30 a.m. The stolen vehicles are described as white unmarked truck-tractors, 2024 or 2025 Freightliner 'Cascadia' model, with day cabs only. 'A smaller grey vehicle, possibly a newer-model Honda Civic, is also believed to be associated to this matter,' the OPP said. 'All vehicles were last seen proceeding southbound on Bayfield St., in the City of Barrie, towards Hwy. 400.'
