YPS debuts at Pesta Babulang with ‘Rhythm of Unity' sape performance

YPS's debut performance at Pesta Babulang. KUCHING (July 5): Yayasan Perpaduan Sarawak (YPS) made its first appearance at Pesta Babulang last Saturday (June 28), presenting a vibrant sape performance during the festival's cultural night at Batu Danau, Limbang. The YPS Sape Ambassadors performed a showcase titled Rhythm of Unity, which received a warm reception from the local audience. In a statement, YPS said the appearance reflected its mission to preserve Sarawak's diverse cultural heritage and promote unity among its many ethnic communities. The group uses the traditional sound of the sape to foster intergenerational and cross-cultural connections. 'Bringing the Sape Ambassadors to Limbang for the first time was a deliberate and meaningful step in this ongoing journey. 'The performance was not only well-received by the audience but also resonated with community leaders and cultural patrons,' said YPS. The event was supported by YPS member and Patron of Persatuan Bisaya Sarawak, Dato Paulus Palu Gumbang, and members of the association who welcomed YPS's participation at the festival. Persatuan Bisaya Sarawak president Joseph Blandoi expressed appreciation for the effort. 'We have received applause from the people, and they said that the performance was entertaining. 'We thank and appreciate YPS's support. Hoping to see the team again next year', he said in the statement. YPS also held an informal sape jamming session on June 27 at the festival's mini stage, inviting festival-goers to experience the instrument up close. The foundation used the opportunity to share its mission, vision, and ongoing initiatives in cultural preservation, youth engagement, and community development. Pesta Babulang, held annually by the Bisaya community, celebrates the end of the harvest season and the beginning of a new cycle. Known for its cultural parades, rituals, and iconic buffalo races, the festival is a key expression of Bisaya identity and heritage.
