Aberdeen star in loan exit despite Jimmy Thelin praise
The Dutch winger heads to the Finnish top flight side until January after finding himself surplus to requirements at Pittodrie once more. After signing in 2022, the 24-year-old has found it difficult to become a regular and has had two loans back in the Netherlands with Excelsior Rotterdam and Emmen. He was back with the Scottish Cup winners last season and scored two goals in 11 Premiership appearances. He now heads back out in search of more regular football despite being praised for his work rate by [[Aberdeen]] manager Jimmy Thelin. Read more: As the Helsinki loan was announced, the Swede said: 'Vicente's worked hard in pre-season and he has a clear desire to play regularly at this stage of his career. 'While we haven't been able to promise him that at Aberdeen, we believe this is the right opportunity for him to secure regular time on the pitch. 'With our club being very familiar with HJK from the relationships that have developed previously, and having recently dealt with them over the arrival of Topi Keskinen, we know they have a very good environment. "This move should provide Vicente the game time he needs in a competitive league with a team who have European football to look forward to and we hope it is the perfect platform for him to flourish.' Besuijen has 11 goals from 57 appearances to date at Aberdeen.

Aberdeen transfer state of play as striker latest delivered and Jimmy Thelin targets 'new dynamic'
The Dons boss wants another frontman to add to the seven signings he has already made this summer Aberdeen boss Jimmy Thelin is confident his summer recruitment drive has brought a new dynamic and hunger to his Scottish Cup-winning squad. The Swede has already made significant changes to his team, bringing back Alfie Dorrington on-loan and signing Nicolas Milanovic, Emmanuel Gyamfi, Kusini Yengi, Nick Suman, Kjartan Mar Kjartansson and Adil Aouchiche. Thelin is still looking to add to his squad further with another striker his priority but knows he will have to play the waiting game to get the targets he wants. The Aberdeen boss confirmed: 'You always have to change a little to get a new dynamic and a new hunger. You need to keep the hunger inside the team to create a good healthy competition within a squad. 'Quality is also important but the character and as a player are the most important things. You need to have a good team spirit. Everyone needs to be clear about their role and expectations and the hard work you need as a professional player today and for Aberdeen FC.' The good thing for those who have remained at Pittodrie is that they have got over the line and know what it means to win something with Aberdeen. Thelin knows that will fuel them to even more success and with the added burden of European group stage football. He admitted: 'When you get to a final and you win it, I think the players will grow with this experience. 'They will feel they can do it and there will be more time together. 'It was my first year with the players. I was trying to understand the culture and getting to know everyone in a better way. 'I will try and use the players better with their strengths. 'The energy of the club is so important. 'Throughout the season, even in the tough times, Pittodrie was almost a full house and even in the away games. 'We tried to use that in a positive way and never stop believing. 'A lot of good clubs are trying to challenge for everything. 'This season we go to Europe and have four competitions, the more we are together the stronger we are going to be. 'We have to work hard, believe and push for it.' The go-to word for Thelin last season was 'believe' and that certainly happened as they lifted their first Scottish Cup in 35 years. It provided the fairytale to his first season at Pittodrie. He stated: 'It has been quite an exciting year. It has been a little bit up and a little bit down and, of course, the final was amazing. 'The feelings you feel that day and the days after with the players, staff, fans and people of Aberdeen was one of the best moments of my life, to get exposed to this. 'Especially when you work so hard together. The belief was there the whole season. 'There were some challenging parts but the belief was there. 'We can add and to finish the season in that way was a really happy day for everyone around the club. 'The whole week was trying to remember but sometimes it is difficult because there are so many emotions. The whole week was built-up to the final. We had a tough end to the season and it was how can we win this game? 'The build-up was really good, now you can look after the final. The players stepped forward and weren't hiding. 'They took responsibility and we also changed the system for this game. 'We worked hard in a short space of time to believe we could do it.' The Scottish Cup win is now in the history books and now for the manager it is what his Aberdeen team can do going forward. 'I haven't looked back on last season too much,' the former Elfsborg coach claimed. 'The new season starts soon. 'We are all proud of the cup win but now we plan and hopefully for an even better future. 'I hope we can be better, in some parts of the game where we can control the game a little better. 'I don't want to lose the spirit and intensity of the pressing but to be more stable, especially in the away games.'

Dorrington return 'a big boost' for Aberdeen, says Devlin
Alfie Dorrington's return is "a big boost" for Aberdeen, says fellow defender Nicky Devlin. The Tottenham centre-half has returned to Pittodrie for the 2025-26 campaign following a successful loan spell last term, which culminated in a historic Scottish Cup triumph. "It's good to see him back again," Devlin told Aberdeen's club media. "I thought he was brilliant last season for us, especially for someone coming into his first real exposure to first-team football. And he'll be a big boost for us. "There are a few people who have left, big characters who have left the dressing room this year. "He's good on and off the park, he's a big character, he gets on well with everyone. And he brings a lot of quality to the team, which we'll need throughout the season." Jimmy Thelin's men continued their pre-season preparations with a friendly defeat to English Premier League side Fulham on Saturday. New signing Kusini Yengi gave Aberdeen the lead, but they fell to a 4-1 defeat against the London club, who finished 11th England's top tier last season. "It was difficult, everyone knows they're a top side," said Devlin, who replaced Graeme Shinnie at left-back at half time. "They give a lot of the top teams in England problems as well. There were good parts of it - first half and second half - but obviously lots of stuff we need to work on going into the start of our season." On playing in an unfamiliar left-back position, Devlin continued: "On paper it's the same position, it's just a different side. "I think the manager knows I'm happy to play wherever. If he thinks it's the best for the team, then he knows I'll play anywhere for him."

'No brainer' as Dorrington returns to Dons on loan
Alfie Dorrington has returned to Aberdeen on loan from Tottenham Hotspur for the 2025-26 season. Dorrington, 20, initially arrived at Pittodrie in January and helped the Dons win the Scottish Cup. His 23rd Aberdeen appearance of the season was a starting place in the final against Celtic, his own goal giving the holders the lead before Jimmy Thelin's side prevailed on penalties following a 1-1 draw. "I had six months here last season, and it was the best six months of my footballing life; winning the cup, playing lots of games, gaining new experiences," said Dorrington. "As soon as I heard Aberdeen had come back in for me it was a no brainer, I just wanted to meet the team straight away." Dorrington added he is looking forward to playing in front of Aberdeen supporters again, "especially on European nights". Thelin's side enter the Europa League at the play-off stage and start their season with a trip to face Hearts in the Scottish Premiership on 4 August. "He played an important part in the squad in the second half of the season and with the campaign ahead we will need strength in depth to be competitive across all competitions," said manager Thelin. "Alfie settled well and made a real contribution so it's always pleasing when a player shows a strong desire to be at the club. "He recognised this is a good opportunity for him to be playing his football at a high level and in a good environment where he can continue to develop."
