Former NFL RB LeSean McCoy rips Steelers legend Ben Roethlisberger for lack of success

USA Today3 hours ago

Earlier in the week, former Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger offered up an interesting comparison between quarterbacks Aaron Rodgers and Patrick Mahomes. Roethlisberger said that prime Aaron Rodgers was better than current Patrick Mahomes is. Not the most controversial opinion but it definitely got former NFL running back LeSean McCoy stirred up.
McCoy decided to vent about Roethlisberger and his hot take on the FS1 show, The Facility. According to McCoy, "Big Ben hates." McCoy noted that in 18 NFL seasons, Roethlisberger was never named an All-Pro and was never once in his career considered the best or even second-best quarterback in the NFL.
Both of these are fair points. Roethlisberger was never a big statistical quarterback in his career. He only led the NFL in passing yards twice, and unfortunately, when you shared the league with guys like Peyton Manning, Tom Brady, Aaron Rodgers, and Drew Brees, among others, you couldn't get much traction from the national media when your team wins but you don't put up huge numbers.
But what Roethlisberger did was win. And elevate the play of his teammates. Roethlisberger was 165-81-1 as a starter in 18 years and led the Steelers to two Super Bowl championships. McCoy also has two Super Bowl titles, both late in his career when he was largely a backup and just moving from team to team. If I want an opinion on a quarterback, I'm taking Roethlisberger over McCoy every time.

Jaxson Dart named New York Giants' Offensive Rookie of the Year candidate

When the New York Giants drafted quarterback Jaxson Dart out of the University of Mississippi, head coach Brian Daboll made it clear that veteran Russell Wilson was the starting quarterback. Although that still seems to be the case, over the last couple of weeks, there has been speculative chatter that the Giants have not ruled out starting their rookie to start the season. Pro Football Network recently released a list of the top Offensive Rookie of the Year candidates for all 32 NFL teams, and Dart was the top candidate for Big Blue. New York Giants: Jaxson Dart, QB How much Jaxson Dart will play in 2025 is still unknown. However, what we do know is that the Offensive Rookie of the Year award has historically been given to quarterbacks, with 11 such winners since the year 2000. Dart's 2024 season with the Ole Miss Rebels shouldn't be understated. He had a QB+ grade of 90.5 last season in Oxford, the highest of any quarterback in the FBS and the 15th-highest QB+ grade since 2019. If Brian Daboll can get Dart reproducing similar numbers in his rookie season, then the award could very well be heading to the Big Apple. Realistically, Dart is the Giants' candidate by default, as the team's draft class consists of only four offensive players. Other than Dart, the Giants have offensive lineman Marcus Mbow (fifth round), running back Cam Skattebo (fourth round), and tight end Thomas Fidone (seventh round), all of whom have to climb the depth chart to make the starting lineup. In Dart's case, it's well documented that Daboll is pretty enamored with his rookie quarterback. With the Giants' schedule being among the most difficult in the NFL, if the team's record isn't promising in the early part of the season, we could see Dart sooner rather than later. Depending on how much Dart plays, he could certainly be an Offensive Rookie of the Year candidate, especially with a big-time target like Malik Nabers to throw the ball to.

Shemar Stewart's agent goes public about Bengals contract standoff

The Cincinnati Bengals are closing in on Shemar Stewart being the only unsigned first-round pick in the NFL. Updates on the contract standoff over the team attempting to insert new language in regards to voiding guarantees continue to trickle in, too. Advertisement Next up are public comments from Stewart's agent, Zac Hiller. 'Obviously my job, and all agents' job, is to protect the players,' Hiller said on SiriusXM NFL Radio (h/t Mike Florio of Pro Football Talk). 'Simply put, Shemar would, of course, love for his contract to be as protective as the rest of his Bengals teammates in the past. And, simply put, the way the contract currently reads is not as protective.' RELATED: Bengals, Shemar Stewart nuclear option includes 2026 NFL draft route Hiller added this, per Florio: 'If you want to make changes to your precedent, it should be a negotiation. It should be give and take. It shouldn't just be, 'Hey, we're changing this and sign it or go scratch.'' Advertisement So, at least from the player's side of things, the Bengals have attempted to change their longstanding contract precedent on this front without any sort of counterbalance to make it work. That, or what they're offering isn't good enough and justifies this very public, messy standoff. At this point, we're in he said, she said territory. Not that the Bengals say much about anything, really. What's interesting from Stewart's side is that had he been drafted elsewhere, these language quirks would've likely already been in place and none of this would've happened. Ditto for his choosing, unlike other unsigned rookies, to not participate at all this spring and early summer, before bashing the team in an interview and leaving minicamp early. Interesting from the Bengals' side, of course, is the sudden desire to change contract precedent and whether or not they're offering enough to make it worth it for Stewart to be the first. Advertisement As always, this likely ends in one side blinking and reaching across the aisle to make it work.
