What Led To Stampede At Haridwar's Mansa Devi Temple
Dehradun: The Uttarakhand Police on Sunday said the preliminary investigation into the Mansa Devi stampede has indicated that the incident occurred due to panic triggered by rumours of electric current. Seven devotees lost their lives in the stampede. Haridwar Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Parmendra Singh Dobal said, "Preliminary probe suggests that panic spread after rumours about electric current. People tried to move away, which resulted in jostling, and they fell over each other." He said that around 9 am, the Police Control Room was contacted about the incident, after which police rushed to the temple. The stampede occurred around the stairs of the temple. A total of 35 people were rescued, Dobal said. State Disaster Response Force and a fire team are at the spot for the relief and rescue operation. Police are collecting forensic evidence, and the situation at the place of worship is normal now, he said. Soon after the tragic incident, Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami expressed grief over the Mansa Devi stampede, saying it was extremely distressing news. "Extremely distressing news has been received about a stampede breaking out at the Mansa Devi Temple in Haridwar. Uttarakhand SDRF, local police, and other rescue teams have reached the spot and are engaged in relief and rescue operations," CM Dhami said in his post on X. "I am in constant contact with the local administration regarding this matter, and the situation is being closely monitored. I pray to Mata Rani for the safety of all the devotees," he added. Thousands of devotees thronged the sacred site during the ongoing holy month of Shravan. Eyewitnesses reported chaos as people began pushing each other while waiting in queues, resulting in panic and a sudden rush. Further details regarding the Haridwar incident are still awaited as authorities continue to assess the situation. Every year, Haridwar sees a massive influx of pilgrims during the month of Shravan, especially at the revered Har Ki Pauri and Mansa Devi Temple.

CM Rakshak Padak for 4 cops, saved 11 from canal
Chandigarh: Punjab chief minister Bhagwant Mann on Friday honoured four police officers for their heroic efforts in rescuing 11 people — including five children — after a car plunged into the Sirhind Canal in Bathinda earlier this week. He announced CM Rakshak Padak for them, to be awarded at the state-level Independence Day function. At a ceremony at his official residence, Mann felicitated members of the Police Control Room (PCR) team: Assistant sub-inspectors Rajinder Singh and Narinder Singh, along with constables Jaswant Singh and Harpal Kaur. The CM praised their swift and courageous response during the July 23 incident as "inspiring example of public service". ASI Narinder Singh was the first to jump into the canal to save the passengers. Constable Jaswant Singh, who cannot swim, nonetheless followed him into the water to assist in the rescue. Mann also commended members of the public and other PCR staff who had helped evacuate the victims safely. He congratulated Bathinda senior superintendent of police Avneet Kaundal and her team for their coordination and commitment. Dwarka man alleges foul play in brother's death by ‘electrocution'; Delhi Police launch probe
Reporter: Upasika Singhal The Delhi Police have launched a formal investigation after the brother of a man who died in an alleged case of accidental electrocution in Dwarka's Uttam Nagar area raised suspicions in connection with the death, officers said Friday. Officers said that based on the allegations, the probe is now centred around the wife of the deceased. On July 13, authorities at Mata Rooprani Maggo Hospital in Uttam Nagar alerted the Police Control Room (PCR) about the death of Karan Dev, 36, reportedly due to electrocution. As per the Medico-Legal Case (MLC) report, Karan was declared dead on arrival at the hospital. 'The patient was shifted to Deen Dayal Upadhyay Hospital for post-mortem. At that time, no allegations were raised by family members who expressed their wish to waive the post-mortem. However, considering the age of the deceased and to rule out any unnatural circumstances, a post-mortem examination was conducted,' said Ankit Singh, Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP), Dwarka. On July 16, the deceased's brother, Kunal, approached the police with concerns about Karan's death, raising suspicions and requesting further inquiry, said the police. Acting on his statement, officers launched a preliminary enquiry. Based on the findings of this enquiry and materials gathered during the inquest proceedings, a case was registered under sections pertaining to murder. The authorities have stated that they are examining all possible angles, and gathering the statements of family members, medical personnel, and potential witnesses as the probe is underway.

Pedestrian dies in hit-and-run accident in Bandra
MUMBAI: A woman was killed in a hit-and-run accident near the Bandra Worli Sea Link when she was crossing the road on Sunday night. The driver of the car surrendered on Monday, said a police officer. According to the police, the incident occurred at 10:30 pm near the Bandra Worli Sea Link when the woman was crossing the road and was hit by a speeding car. The Police Control Room received a call from a person, whose identity has not been revealed, alerting them about the accident. The Bandra police reached the spot and found the woman severely injured and rushed her to Bhabha Hospital in Bandra, where she died on Monday morning. On checking the CCTV footage, the police identified the car that had hit the woman and fled the spot. The person who was driving the car, Gurvinder Singh Kulbir Singh Kir, 48, surrendered to the police on Monday, said Constable Amol Jaywant Nawadkar of Bandra police station and added, 'The accused was on his way back home in Santacruz from his office in South Mumbai. Due to rain, the visibility was low and he could not see the woman crossing the road and hit her.' The police said that they have not yet identified the woman. A case was registered against Kir under Section 106(1) (causing death due to negligence) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and relevant sections of the Motor Vehicles Act.
