Popeyes' new summer sauce has a southern twist, plus a secret menu addition

Popeyes just dropped new summer menu items and fans are excited. They now have their first-ever Signature Sauce — something people have been asking for for years. The sauce is inspired by Southern flavors and Popeyes' New Orleans, NOLA roots. It's made using the 'holy trinity' of Cajun and Creole cooking: bell pepper, celery, and onion. There's also a kick of hot sauce in it — giving it that Louisiana spice. The Signature Sauce is now a permanent menu item, not just for summer. It comes in a new round dipping cup, made for serious dipping, as per the AOL report. US fast food chain brings back axed range after fans begged for return

When Popeyes' Hot Honey range launched last year, fast food fans couldn't get enough. Customers had been begging for more of the dip on the menu, and Popeyes didn't disappoint, introducing the Hot Honey Chicken Sandwich and Hot Honey Saucin' Wings. But then in a blow to Hot Honey fans everywhere, this limited time offer — Popeyes' most successful ever — ended just three months later. But now, it's good news once more for lovers of the Louisiana fried chicken brand, which has been hailed as 'phenomenal' and 'better than McDonald's', as Hot Honey is back — and this time, there's a new addition to the range. Joining the line-up in restaurants and for takeaway from today, there's the Hot Honey Saucin' Boneless, featuring 100% fresh boneless chicken breast pieces with Popeyes' iconic Shatter Crunchin' coating, 'sauced up' in Hot Honey. The range is back by popular demand, after customers took to social media, begging for its return. 'Can you please explain why you have taken the hot honey wings off your menu,' asked an outraged @OyinSoExtra on X in April. 'Do you realise this is travesty?!!! Bring it back!!!!' X user @d1gitalpixie agreed: 'Popeyes UK need top bring that hot honey burger back I'm so serious.' While on TikTok @louisewatson18 mourned the loss of her favourite: 'Missing the hot honey, my fabulous sauce ever.' Dave Hoskins, head of food at Popeyes UK confirmed the range is returning due to 'unprecedented demand.' The Hot Honey Chicken Sandwich (£6.99) features the shatter crunch chicken breast in a brioche bun, but is drizzled in hot honey sauce, then topped with smoked cheese and pickles. There's also new Hot Honey Saucin' Wings (from £5.99), which Popeyes say are 'a must-try for fans looking to spice up their order'. These crispy chicken wings are slathered in the house-developed hot honey sauce that 'packs a punch'. And for those wanting a bigger meal, you can now opt for the Hot Honey Box Meal, which features the sandwich, regular fries, a regular drink, and then your choice of either two chicken tenders, three hot wings, or one-piece signature chicken for £10.99. He said: 'Hot Honey is by far one of our best-selling flavours, as well as a viral trend that shows no signs of letting up. More Trending 'Our sweet, fiery sandwich pairs sticky honey with our signature Shatter Crunch texture for a mouthwatering experience that fans have been begging us to bring back. 'We couldn't ignore the unprecedented calls from customers, and got right to work creating a bigger and better range filled with an explosion of the fiery stickin' sweet flavours, to satisfy that huge demand from our fried chicken cravers.' It's not been confirmed how long exactly the new items will be on the menu for, but they are once again all limited-edition, so they won't be sticking around forever. After its initial launch last year, Metro got an exclusive early taste of the items and were impressed with the sweet and saucy range. Opinion editor, Jess Austin, thought the chicken sandwich was 'amazing', and declared herself officially a Popeyes convert because of it. Similarly, Lifestyle writer Eleanor Noyce was also a big fan, describing the hot honey sauce as 'sweet, tangy and crispy.' Metro's resident specialst food writer, Courtney Pochin, enjoyed it immensely, but didn't really think it was a necessary addition to the menu. She said: 'Popeyes is my go-to fast food chain and while this new twist on the chicken sandwich is undeniably yummy, and has a nice warm kick, it's got nothing on the OG version. 'The classic is a classic for a reason, you just can't beat it.' Do you have a story to share? Popeyes debuts two new menu items. When can you try them?

Popeyes newest menu items were made for dipping. Chicken dippers arrived at participating restaurants Monday, July 14, alongside a new signature sauce inspired by Popeyes' New Orleans roots, according to the Miami-based chicken chain. Customers can dunk the dippers — thin strips of white meat chicken battered in Popeyes' signature spice blend — in a sauce that blends 'the bold flavors of the Louisiana 'holy trinity;' bell pepper, celery, and onion,' Popeyes said in a news release. Prices start at $4.99 but may vary by location, according to the restaurant's website. 'We took our time developing it over the last five years, ensuring we landed on something undeniably Popeyes,' Chef Amy Alarcon, vice president of culinary innovation at Popeyes, said of the signature sauce. This 'is a monumental moment for our brand, and one we approached with care, knowing it had the potential to become an iconic part of our menu,' she said. The chicken dippers are available for a limited time, but the signature sauce is here to stay, according to Popeyes. It'll join classic dipping sauces including barbecue, blackened ranch and honey mustard. The dippers' debut comes at the heels of Popeyes latest menu innovation: chicken wraps. A first for the chicken chain, each 'grab-and-go style' wrap features a full-sized chicken tender, lettuce, cheese, pickles and customers' choice of sauce. Popeyes beat rival McDonald's to the punch, launching its wraps a day before the Golden Arches teased the highly anticipated return of its snack wrap. 'Infusing the flavors from our famous biscuit into our wraps was the perfect way to ensure our signature flavors shined through,' Alarcon said at the time. Find your nearest Popeyes here.

First look at US chicken chain's new Co Antrim location

Opening on Monday July 7, the new restaurant at The Junction will offer both sit-in and takeaway options - and will be Popeyes' first drive-thru location in Northern Ireland. The US chain said that queues are expected both on foot and by car on Monday, after the brand's first restaurant at Forestside in Belfast proved popular since opening last September. Jack Skidmore, Training Manager at Popeyes, said: 'As we put the finishing touches to the new restaurant, excitement is building - not just within our team, but across The Junction and the wider community. "We're proud to be bringing the spirit and flavour of New Orleans to Northern Ireland, and the team can't wait to welcome our first customers through the doors on Monday." The interior of the restaurant is inspired by the vibrant colours and atmosphere of New Orleans. The restaurant will open from 8am to 10pm, seven days a week. Customers can begin queuing from 9am on Monday's opening day. The US chain opened its first NI restaurant at Forestside Shopping Centre in south Belfast in September. The business, which was founded in New Orleans in 1972, first set up shop in the UK in November 2021, and has since opened in more than 50 locations. The menu includes chicken sandwich, hot wings, tenders, original southern-style savoury biscuits and gravy and Cajun rice.

The McDonald's Snack Wrap Comeback Is Confirmed, and There's a Whole Website for It

McDonald's officially confirms the permanent return of the Snack Wrap starting July 10, featuring McCrispy Strips, shredded cheese, and lettuce in Spicy and Ranch varieties. A new promotional website, has been launched to celebrate the return with fan content, updates, and exclusive media. The relaunch follows a wave of competition in the chicken snack space, including Popeyes' recent wrap debut and Taco Bell's investment in crispy chicken months, nothing has filled the Snack Wrap-sized void in our foodie hearts. The Golden Arches has some fantastic news for your summer plans — all that yearning might soon be a thing of the past. The long-lost Snack Wrap makes a permanent return to menus on July 10, as the company reveals to Food & Wine. This savory, tortilla-wrapped delight is one of the most notable menu items that customers have loved and lost, and the Google search data backs it up. Here are all the juicy details: The new and improved Snack Wrap features the recently launched McCrispy Strips along with shredded cheese and lettuce. It's available in two flavors, Spicy and Ranch, and customers can order them individually or as part of a two-piece combo meal. 'It's back,' McDonald's USA president Joe Erlinger succinctly confirmed in the company announcement. McDonald's tease last December sparked a flurry of supportive comments on social media. This time around, McDonald's is rolling out the digital red carpet with a website solely dedicated to next month's release and those fan reactions. On the platform McDonald's is exploring every aspect of the viral menu item. McDonald's explains on its website, 'We dropped to highlight the bond fans have with the Snack Wrap. We're delivering engaging, iconic and never-before-seen content — continuously updated leading up to the official return of the Snack Wrap.' Related: Our 50 Best Chicken Recipes This may all be thanks to a little peer pressure from Cajun-style competitor Popeyes Louisiana Kitchen. The comfort food chain unveiled its own version of a tortilla-wrapped snack earlier this week, describing it as the "same legendary Louisiana flavor with a whole new twist.' While Popeyes' version offers a spicier take on the portable meal, the similarities certainly aren't lost on their marketing team. 'Glad we could make that happen,' the official Popeyes account teased on McDonald's Instagram announcement, signing off the comment with a winking emoji. While McDonald's version is a clear fast food classic, it reflects a broader industry trend toward dippable chicken snacks. Earlier this year, Taco Bell reinvested in crispy chicken with its version of Crispy Chicken Nuggets. In the coming years, the Yum! Brands-owned company aims to concentrate its strategy on the wider crispy chicken category. Other brands, like Burger King, have attempted to introduce the Snack Wrap in recent years — but nothing quite compares to the original. If you catch us with an extra pep in our step this afternoon, you know exactly who we have to thank. Read the original article on Food & Wine
