Not just McDonald's: Here's where else you can get chicken wraps
McDonald's beloved Snack Wrap has some competition. The chicken wrap, which returned to McDonald's menus on July 10 nearly a decade after the item was phased out, has sparked a wrap war: some fast-food chains, like Burger King, are reminding fans they've had wraps for years, and others, like Popeyes and Taco Bell, recently added their own versions to their menus. McDonald's wrap, available a la carte or in a combo meal, is available in two flavors: spicy and ranch. The combo meal comes with two Snack Wraps, a medium fry and a drink of choice. If you're only ordering the wrap, the item costs $2.99 each. While the tizzy continues around the Golden Arches' comeback, here's a look at some other fast-food chains that sell chicken wraps. McDonald's Snack Wrap review: We tried it. Here's what we thought. Burger King BK Royal Crispy Wraps Burger King entered the wrap game in 2023 with the introduction of its BK Royal Crispy Wraps, according to a 2023 news release from the chain. The wraps feature crispy white meat chicken, tomato, lettuce and one of the three flavors in a soft tortilla. Popeyes Chicken Wraps Popeyes announced on June 2 it was introducing Chicken Wraps to its menu for a limited time, giving customers the "craveable flavor of Popeyes, now wrapped and ready to go wherever you do," according to a news release. The wraps feature Popeyes hand-breaded and battered chicken tenders with crispy lettuce, shredded cheese and crunchy pickles, all in a warm tortilla that's inspired by the flavor of Popeyes biscuits. Popeyes is giving away a free chicken wrap with any order of $5 or more from July 10 through Sunday, July 13. Sonic Crispy Tender Wraps Sonic is another chain that recently introduced chicken wraps to its menu. The company told USA TODAY on June 7 it added two new Crispy Tender Wraps to its value menu. Both contain an all-white meat, crispy tender, lettuce, tomatoes and melty cheddar cheese wrapped in a soft, flour tortilla. Sonic also told USA TODAY more wrap flavors are coming later this year. Taco Bell crispy chicken tacos and burritos (AKA wraps) Earlier this summer, Taco Bell debuted a new lineup of crispy chicken menu items that include tacos and burritos after a successful trial with chicken nuggets. The lineup of new items is available for a limited time and includes: The chain said in a news release that "crispy chicken is the future" and is set to land on Taco Bell menus permanently in 2026. Wendy's Wrap Duos According to its online menu, Wendy's also offers a chicken wrap, available in three different varieties. Customers can choose between a grilled chicken, spicy chicken or classic chicken wrap duo. In addition to the chicken, the Wendy's Wrap Duo also features lettuce, shredded cheese, ranch and flour tortillas. Each order comes with two wraps. McDonald's, Popeyes gear up for chicken sandwich war's new battle: wraps
A new battle is cooking in the fast-food industry's Chicken Sandwich Wars — wraps instead of rolls. Why it matters: Reviving fan-favorite items, or featuring new releases, can help restaurants drive sales and bring consumers back. The big picture: Popeyes took the first shot Monday when it released three new chicken wraps. McDonald's said Tuesday that its snack wrap will return in July, months after teasing the popular item's comeback. Wendy's Grilled Chicken Ranch Wrap debuted in March 2023, and Burger King launched its BK Royal Crispy Wraps in August 2023. Context: Popeyes started the sandwich wars in 2019. McDonald's was considered a late entrant, with the fast-food giant promising more chicken items since before the McCrispy Sandwich debuted in 2021. Its new chicken strips launched this May and are a key ingredient in the wraps. Popeyes Chicken Wraps now available Zoom in: Popeyes released three wraps Monday at participating restaurants nationwide, which are available for a limited time. Each has a Popeyes chicken tender with lettuce, shredded cheese and pickles with choice of a Classic, Spicy or Honey Mustard spread. The Chicken Wraps are normally $3.99 each, but prices can vary. What they're saying: "We wanted to create a Chicken Wrap that was undeniably Popeyes," said Amy Alarcon, the company's vice president of culinary innovation, in a statement. "Infusing the flavors from our famous biscuit into our wraps was the perfect way to ensure our signature flavors shined through," Alarcon said. McDonald's Snack Wrap return date Flashback: The original McDonald's Snack Wrap debuted in 2006 and was discontinued in 2016. Fans have been pleading in social posts and petitions for McDonald's to bring the Snack Wrap back for years. What's next: After months of hints, McDonald's said Tuesday the Snack Wrap will come back starting July 10 as a permanent menu item. The fast-food giant also launched a new website which it calls the "content hub for the most anticipated menu item of the decade." McDonald's U.S. President Joe Erlinger had a short statement about the wrap Tuesday: "It's back." The intrigue: The new Snack Wrap will be available in two flavors — spicy and ranch.
