Machete assault outside Portage Avenue store: Winnipeg police

THE CANADIAN PRESS/David Lipnowski Winnipeg police are searching for a teenage suspect after a man was seriously injured in a machete attack last week outside a west-end convenience store. Officers responded to the assault on July 3 at 10:44 p.m. in the 1700 block of Portage Avenue. According to police, the victim was attacked by an unknown suspect with a machete, leading to serious injuries. A passerby used a belt as a makeshift tourniquet to help the victim before emergency crews arrived. Officers from the West District applied a second tourniquet. The victim was moved to hospital in stable condition. The suspect remains at large. He is described as a male between 15 and 17 years old, approximately 5'6' to 5'10' tall, with a slim build, light complexion, and dark hair. He was last seen wearing a black Tupac T-shirt, ripped black jeans, dark sandals with white or grey socks, and carrying a grey backpack. Police say he was accompanied by two other teens at the time of the assault. Man arrested after allegedly threatening pedestrians with knife

THE CANADIAN PRESS/David Lipnowski A 25-year-old man has been arrested after allegedly chasing a pedestrian with a knife in downtown Winnipeg. Winnipeg police were called to the intersection of Portage Avenue and Main Street at 6:39 p.m. Friday, following multiple reports of a man armed with a knife threatening people. According to the city, one of the pedestrians managed to escape by jumping into a passing security vehicle and calling police. Officers arrived to find the suspect still in possession of a knife. He tried to flee but was arrested near Main Street and McDermot Avenue. The knife was recovered and no injuries were reported. The man faces weapons-related charges and a charge for failing to comply with a release order.

Winnipeg police searching for missing man

Rustie Raquin was last seen on Wednesday at 10:45 a.m. around Portage Avenue and Sturgeon Road. Raquin is five-foot-six with a heavy build, short brown hair, and brown eyes. He was last seen wearing a black shirt, grey sweatpants, and brown/black work boots. Anyone with information about his location is asked to call Winnipeg police at 204-986-6250.

Missing person last seen Wednesday in Winnipeg, police say
Winnipeg police are asking for help finding a missing person last seen in the city earlier this week. Rustie Raquin, 35, was last spotted on Wednesday around 10:45 a.m. in the area of Portage Avenue and Sturgeon Road, the Winnipeg Police Service said in an alert Friday. Raquin is described as five feet, six inches, with a heavy build, short brown hair and brown eyes, and was last seen wearing a black shirt, grey sweats and brown/black workboots, police said. Police are concerned about Raquin's well-being and ask anyone with information about their location to call the missing persons unit at 204-986-6250.

People told to avoid portion of Perimeter Highway: RCMP
Drivers are told to avoid the Perimeter Highway at the Portage Avenue overpass. RCMP said officers were dispatched to the area around 4:45 p.m. for a multi-vehicle crash. It is impacting the southbound lanes. RCMP said there will be 'significant delays' and people are asked to avoid the area. This story will be updated when more details become available.
