The Commissioner of Police visited Kasba Police Station on Monday to review the progress of the investigation in the case that has once again brought the spotlight on crimes against women in the city. The commissioner held a two-hour meeting with officers of the Special Investigation Team (SIT) and issued detailed guidelines on how the investigation should proceed, sources told CNN-News18. The development comes after the 24-year-old law student accused three people— alumnus Monojit Mishra and current students Pratim Mukherjee and Zaid Ahmed—of sexually assaulting her in the college security guard's room on June 25. The fourth accused, the security guard, was taken into custody on Saturday. The college has been closed indefinitely for now. So far, the survivor has been taken to the scene of the crime, where she described the events of that day. Her statement has also been recorded before a magistrate under Section 164 and she has undergone medical examination twice. The clothes worn by both the accused and the survivor on the day of the incident have been collected as evidence. Police sources say the woman's complaint is being substantiated by the evidence collected so far. In her complaint, the survivor alleged that the prime accused filmed her and blackmailed her with the video. The accused's mobile phone has been recovered, and it contains the video, corroborating her allegations. Additionally, CCTV footage from June 25 clearly shows that the woman was prevented from leaving the premises. Police sources also say that the survivor had written in her complaint that she had asked for an inhaler as she was feeling breathless. Investigation has confirmed this after police spoke to the medical shop owner. Police have started questioning students who were present in college that day.
