Watch Judas Priest pay tribute to Black Sabbath with thunderous War Pigs cover

Judas Priest have covered War Pigs in tribute to fellow Birmingham heavy metal legends Black Sabbath. Earlier today (July 1), the self-anointed Metal Gods put out their take on the opening song from Sabbath's seminal second album Paranoid, the original version of which they've played from the tape before their concerts for many years. The band comment: 'We are honoured to show our love for Ozzy [Osbourne] and Black Sabbath with our homage to War Pigs: a song we play at every show around the world that fans sing along to – reinforcing their love as well for the legendary Prince Of Darkness!' Sabbath's founding lineup – vocalist Osbourne, guitarist Tony Iommi, bassist Geezer Butler and drummer Bill Ward – will reunite onstage for the first time in almost 20 years at their Back To The Beginning all-dayer this Saturday (July 5). Being held at Villa Park in Birmingham, the show will mark Osbourne's last time onstage, following his retirement from touring in 2023. The singer will play both with Sabbath and as a solo artist, and the bill will be rounded out by a who's-who of hard rock and heavy metal, with other performers including Metallica, Guns N' Roses and Slayer. Priest are one of the few vaunted metal bands to not be on the lineup for Saturday, but they're missing out for good reason. As frontman Rob Halford recently explained to Metal Hammer, the band are playing the 60th-anniversary celebrations for hard rockers Scorpions in Germany the same day and wouldn't be able to make both shows happen. He said he was 'gutted' over the clash but added that founding guitarist K.K. Downing, who left Priest in 2011, would represent 'the spirit of the band' at Back To The Beginning. Priest are currently touring Europe on their Shield Of Pain run, celebrating both their latest album Invincible Shield and the 35th anniversary of their 1990 classic Painkiller. The tour will be capped off by two UK shows, the second being a co-headliner with Alice Cooper at the O2 Arena in London on July 25. Priest will tour North America with Cooper from September to October. See details and get tickets via their website.

Legendary 80s Metal Band's Founding Guitarist Reimagines Iconic Debut Album Track

K.K. Downing, the founding guitarist of the legendary 80s metal band Judas Priest, has released a brand new version of the band's hit track "Never Satisfied" from their 1974 debut album Rocka Rolla - and the newly recorded version of the song also includes former Priest vocalist Tim "Ripper" Owens. "We just had fun in a spare bedroom, trying to create something different," Downing, 73, recently told Ultimate Classic Rock in an interview about the song, reminiscing about writing it with the band's original lead vocalist, Al Atkins. "We wrote quite a lot of stuff and then we went on the road. In my memory, 'Never Satisfied' was always in the set. When Al left and Rob [Halford] joined, then we were on the road for at least a couple of years. We had the song in the set [at that time] with Rob singing it as well." Last year, the band reissued Rocka Rolla in honor of its 50th anniversary and included a full remix of the entire album - which, in turn, got Downing back into the band's first output. From there, the idea to rerecord the song just came naturally to him. "I thought, 'I'm just going to plug the guitar in and have a go at jamming along to a couple of these songs,'" he told the outlet. "I just had fun doing it and I thought I would put the track down and ask Ripper if he'd do the courtesy of throwing a vocal on there. It came about really quickly and it was fun." For Owens' part, he wanted to really honor the original track as much as possible, particularly in the way it was recorded. "It's really cool," the singer, 57, explained to Ultimate Classic Rock in a separate interview. "It's me singing it, but staying true to the melodies. I changed a little bit, added a little bit of rasp [and] some high notes." The vocalist hopes that this new version will lead to more rerecordings in the future - and there's a lot to mine there, if they go down that route. "I said, 'Ken, let's record the whole damn thing. I don't care, let's have fun,'" Owens told the outlet. "You want to do 'Rocka Rolla,' okay. 'Run of the Mill' [would be fun]. I've always wanted to do 'Cheater,' because I felt the guitar with more balls [would be good]. I think he's just having some fun and there'll be some more coming, I hope." Interestingly enough, the band's 1974 debut and their 1976 follow-up Sad Wings of Destiny were owned by the band's original label, Gull Records, for nearly 50 years, as the band broke their contract with the label to move to CBS Records in 1977. Because of that, they were unable to do anything with the music from those albums as they were not the rights holders. However, Gull sold the masters and publishing to Reach Music and Exciter Records in partnership with the band in 2022, which allowed the band's longtime producer, Tom Allom, to oversee the remixing of Rocka Rolla that was released for the album's major milestone anniversary. Allom will also oversee the remixing of Sad Wings of Destiny for an upcoming 50th anniversary rerelease. Copyright 2025 The Arena Group, Inc. All Rights Reserved

Damien Priest is not about to miss his "home games" for any reason this summer

Damien Priest (Image via) Damien Priest has been quietly making his place in the WWE from the very beginning, and his tenure with the SmackDown brand only shows how much he has grown over the years. He was last seen at the Saturday Night's Main Event on May 24, where he faced off against Drew McIntyre in a rematch contested in a Steel Cage match. Priest won the match by escaping the cage, ending his feud with the latter. McIntyre has since taken some time off to heal and recover from multiple injuries that he suffered. And looks like it could be the same for Priest. Is Damien Priest planning to take some time off the ring? Rumors are afloat that Damien Priest could be taking some time off from wrestling this summer, which could possibly mean that he would miss out on SummerSlam. After Liv Morgan 's unexpected injury, she will need time to recuperate, and many think Priest could be joining her on the same. But the wrestling star has shut off that idea totally, saying there is no way he will miss his "home games." Fightful Select had previously reported that Priest is pretty "banged up" after facing off against McIntyre, but the Archer of Infamy seems eager to come back to the ring during the SummerSlam event, which will happen over two nights in New Jersey. And given that Priest himself is from New York, it's easy to understand why he would count this event to be "home games." by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like 남재현 원장, 복부둘레 반토막 내는 "이것".. 똥뱃살 빼고 싶다면? 남재현 체지방 다이어트 더 알아보기 Undo Sources inside WWE are also very happy with his dedication, and "noted that working through Summerslam seemed to be important to him as it's a 'home game' for him." Drew McIntyre is on a long hiatus from the ring, but his opponent is not taking off for now, and we will see him at the SummerSlam event, set to take place over the weekend of August 2 and August 3, 2025, at MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, New Jersey. Rapper Cardi B will be hosting the event, and it will be two nights of extra fun and chaos in WWE. Legendary Heavy Metal Band Has Exciting News (And It Involves a 90s Rock Icon)

Few bands are as synonymous with heavy metal as Judas Priest. With at the helm, the band pioneered the sound by releasing iconic albums like British Steel, Screaming for Vengeance and Painkiller. The band's epic journey will now be told in a new documentary: The Ballad of Judas Priest, which is currently in production at Sony Music Vision. Fellow rock icon will help tell this story. The guitarist will co-direct the documentary with filmmaker Sam Dunn. "We have lived and breathed metal for over five decades, and finally in this documentary we are summoning our congregation to officially witness our lives uncensored, in a never-before-seen way," Judas Priest said in a statement (per Ultimate Classic Rock). "The cassock comes off, revealing Priest in all its metal glory!" Tom Morello and Sam Dunn issued a joint statement, saying that there is "so much more" to the Judas Priest story than their "huge hits that have shaped the heavy metal genre." "Tracing their incredible 50-year journey, this film will capture how Judas Priest both defined the sound and look of metal, but also made it a more inclusive place along the way," the co-directors added. "We are grateful to the band for allowing us such intimate, unfiltered access to their lives and look forward to bringing this film to the metal masses around the world."Tom Morello will also serve as the film's executive producer. Sam Dunn, who will co-produce, also made the documentaryMetal: A Headbanger's Journey and concert films for Iron Maiden, Rush, and ZZ Top. Judas Priest formed in Birmingham, England, in the late '60s and released their debut album, Rocka Rolla, in 1975. Along with fellow Birmingham band Black Sabbath, Priest introduced this heavier, darker, harder rock sound that we now know as heavy metal. Black Sabbath (and their frontman, Ozzy Osbourne) take their last curtain call on July 5. The event will be the final showever for both Ozzy and Sabbath. The farewell show's lineup features some of the biggest names in metal's history, except Judas Priest. Halford explained why and how he's "gutted" to miss the show.
