Good-bye ‘ice cream truck' vibes, Proton e.MAS 7 gets galactic sound upgrade on July 21
KUALA LUMPUR, July 4 — One of the most requested feature for the Proton 7 is the ability to turn off or change the 'Ice Cream Truck' sound. In case you don't know, this is a pedestrian safety-related feature which emits sound when an EV is moving at low speeds (usually 30km/h and below). For a lot of people (us included), the default sound can get a bit annoying especially when you're creeping through a traffic light stop. The folks at Pro-Net have been listening to customer feedback and they have promised to offer a 'fix' in an upcoming OTA software update. As announced yesterday, Proton 7 owners can look forward to new enhancements for their EVs in the coming weeks which also includes the ability to change the default low-speed pedestrian warning sound. Three new pedestrian warning sounds for Proton 7 With the upcoming update, the Proton 7 will soon be getting a total of three new audio options — Classical, Space Walk and Galactic Note. Interestingly, the original 'Ice Cream Truck' is gone and the three sounds are new options. Classic sounds like a spaceship with an ascending tone. Meanwhile, Space Walk and Galactic Note are two variations of ambient and atmospheric type of music, which sounds like booting up an old Microsoft Windows operating system. At least that's what we hear from the demo clip when we tap under settings. You can listen for yourself in the video below: These pedestrian warning sound settings can be found under the Vehicle settings > Sound Settings, and then scroll all the way down until AVAS. Although there's an option to turn AVAS off, it doesn't stay off completely and it will turn back on when you restart the vehicle. However, if you've selected an audio profile, it will be saved for your next trip. Proton 7 owners to get new features including CarPlay starting July 21, 2025 These new features and enhancements are included as part of Flyme Auto Software Update which will be rolled out to Proton 7 EVs in stages starting from July 21. Besides the AVAS options, the OTA update will also enable support for wireless and wired Apple CarPlay, and the ability to allow drivers to retain their last-used settings. The new update also adds support for more third party apps including Zoom for Cars, and Vivaldi Browser. For Android users, you'll need to wait a bit longer for Android Auto support. According to the timeline, Wired and Wireless Android Auto support is expected to be released in Q4 2025. In case you missed it, Proton has introduced 'new variants' for the Proton 7. This includes a new Obsidian Black option with Indigo Blue interior for both Prime and Premium variants, and a limited-quantity Alabaster White interior option which is offered only for the Premium variant in either Quartz Rose and Turquoise Green exteriors. — SoyaCincau

Proton e.MAS 7 gets Apple CarPlay, new sounds and smarter features in July 21 update
KUALA LUMPUR, July 3 — During the launch of the refreshed Proton 7 with new colour options, Pro-Net has announced that Wireless and Wired Apple CarPlay support is finally coming in the next couple of weeks. The long-awaited mobile connectivity feature along with additional enhanced features and updates will be rolled out via an Over-The-Air (OTA) software update. It will be rolled out in stages starting July 21, 2025 via a Flyme Auto OS update. Previously, we were told that Android Auto support is aimed for Q4 2025 release. Besides Apple CarPlay, the refreshed OTA update will also allow drivers to retain their last-used settings, a most wanted feature that has been requested among existing Proton 7 owners. In addition, the new update will also provide more personalised options for the EV's low speed pedestrian warning system (also known as Ice Cream Truck Sound). Besides its current Classical Tone, feature will add two new sound profiles: Galactic Note and Space Walk. Proton e.MAS 7 sells like hotcakes — One every hour since January
KUALA LUMPUR, May 21 — It's only been four months since the Proton 7 started rolling out in Malaysia, and Pro-Net has already delivered 2,716 units locally and abroad. That's roughly one Proton 7 sold every hour since January 2025, making it not just a hot seller, but the best-selling EV in Malaysia for four months in a row. 863 Proton 7 EVs delivered in April alone In April alone, 863 units were delivered (for both local and export), giving the 7 a 26 per cent market share in the EV space. That's a massive feat considering how competitive the EV scene in Malaysia especially for the sub-RM150,000 segment. Commenting on the achievement, Pro-Net CEO Zhang Qiang said, 'We are incredibly grateful to all of our customers for their continued confidence in us.' He added, 'To have one unit sold every hour shows how ready Malaysians are to embrace the EV future with the Proton 7. Their trust and strong support have driven this success.' Integrated EV Charging map now covers over 2,500 chargers Pro-Net is also making EV ownership easier with its integrated EV charging map. This allows owners to locate and activate EV chargers from various Charge Point Operators (CPO) seamlessly from one single app. The integrated Live Charging Map now covers over 2,500 EV chargers across the country, representing over 90 per cent of the nation's public charging points. These chargers can be accessed directly via the app or through the car's built-in navigation system. Among the latest CPOs to join Pro-Net's EV charging ecosystem is Shell Recharge. To celebrate the roll out, Proton 7 owners can enjoy up to 30 per cent discount for Shell Recharge EV chargers from 26th May to 9th June 2025 High-rise dwellers aren't left out either. Pro-Net has facilitated the installation of more than 1,000 EV chargers in 397 condominiums and apartment buildings. Recently, they have signed a collaboration agreement with Charge+, ChargeSini, RExharge and Charge N Go to expand EV charging accessibility in high-rise residential buildings. Pro-Net is also identifying new Charge Point Operator (CPO) partners to further improve charging accessibility for 7 owners.

Pro-Net teams up with four charge point operators to expand EV charging access for apartment and condo residents
KUALA LUMPUR, May 7 — Staying in high-rise residential buildings shouldn't be a barrier to own an EV. More condominium and apartment residents can enjoy convenient and cheaper access to EV charging as Pro-Net has signed a collaboration agreement with four top Charge Point Operators (CPO) in the country. With its collaboration with Charge+, ChargeSini, RExharge and Charge N Go, Pro-Net aims to strengthen the national EV ecosystem and to support the increasing number of Proton and smart owners. Pro-Net provides and Smart owners access to 1,053 EV charge points at condominiums and apartments At the moment, Proton and Smart customers can conveniently charge their EVs at 320 condominiums and apartments nationwide, and this includes its existing partnership with EV Connection (EVC) in December 2024. In total, Pro-Net now lists a total of 1,053 charging points at high-rise residential buildings across Malaysia. Pro-Net added that these initiatives contribute to Malaysia's 90 per cent coverage milestone for public charging needs, which compliments the current network of 2,500 public charging points nationwide. In addition, Pro-Net aims to make EV ownership easier and more affordable by working directly with the four CPOs to install chargers at residential condominiums and apartments. Singapore-based Charge+ is installing chargers at 18 condominium locations while Time's Charge N Go is installing chargers at 93 condominium locations. Meanwhile, ChargeSini is the largest player by coverage with over 1,010 charge points nationwide and it is expanding its charger installation to cover 204 condominium locations. RExharge is also supporting the partnership with charging solutions backed by more than 1,000 residential projects and more than 100 EV chargers, and they will be installing chargers at 5 condominium locations. As the public charging network continues to grow, home EV charging is still the cheapest option but it is often limited to residents of landed property. The initiative aims to provide Proton and Smart owners access to charge at their condo at lower rates than typical public chargers, with the aim of reducing the cost of owning an EV. Special rate for Proton and Smart Owners To celebrate the collaboration, Pro-Net is offering a limited-time promo where Proton and Smart owners can enjoy discounted rate for EV charging at participating condominium charging points provided by each CPO. Each partner CPO will offer customised promotional pricing from RM0.75 per kWh as listed below: Charge+ – AC Charging from RM0.75/kWh ChargeSini – AC Charging from RM0.84/kWh, DC Charging from RM1.11/kWh RExharge – AC Charging from RM0.75/kWh, DC Charging from RM0.99/kWh Charge N Go – AC Charging from RM0.75/kWh To enjoy these rates, you'll need to activate and pay for EV charging via the Proton app which has built-in EV charging integration with live map for each CPO's charging platform. No EV charger? No problem, say Proton subsidiary and users as smarter systems ease urban, rural charging fears
BENTONG, May 17 — For many people considering a switch from a petrol-powered car to an electric vehicle (EV), the biggest deterrent is range anxiety or the fear of running out of power before reaching their destination or finding a charging station. Proton New Energy Technology Sdn Bhd (Pro-Net) chief brand officer Salawati Mohd Yusoff said concerns about travel distance are common among individuals not yet familiar with driving EVs, especially since the technology is still new in the local market. However, she said, today's EVs come with the latest software capable of helping drivers plan their journeys more efficiently, thereby reducing the risk of running out of battery mid-trip. Pro-Net, a fully-owned subsidiary of Proton, was established to spearhead sales and distributorship of smart vehicles in Malaysia. 'For example, our company's Proton 7 comes with technology that can tell you how much power and kilowatts, as well as how far the vehicle can still go – whether it can reach the destination or needs charging. For this model, the WLTP (Worldwide Harmonised Light Vehicles Test Procedure) range is between 345 km and 410 km. 'For instance, if someone wants to travel to Ipoh (Perak), when they enter the destination in the system, it will inform whether the car can make it or not (to the destination). If it can't, it will show how many kilometres short and suggest the nearest charging station along the route. From there, users can plan and charge at an available location,' she said when met by Bernama during The Real eMAS Drive at Tiarasa Escapes here recently, an event organised by Pro-Net. Salawati said using an EV can be likened to using a smartphone, where users need to charge it after a certain period of use to avoid running out of power. She also said although most EV charging stations are concentrated in urban areas like Kuala Lumpur, Selangor, Penang and Johor Bahru, it is not a problem for people living in rural areas to use the vehicle as customers can charge it at home. 'Generally, 80 percent of EV buyers are from urban areas and 20 percent – or maybe slightly less than 20 percent – are from outskirts, but actually, they can still use it in rural areas. It just requires a little bit of understanding about where the charger is and how to reach it. Home charging is also possible for those living in landed properties, whether in urban or non-urban areas,' she added, noting that EV maintenance costs are lower compared to internal combustion engine (ICE) cars. EV user Rosmah Idayu Abu Samah, 48, said although she lives in a condominium and, hence, not able to have her own charger at home, she still believes her decision to switch to an EV about a year ago was the right one. 'There's no problem living in a non-landed home and using an EV. For me, I usually charge my car for about 30 minutes at a charging station near my house ... sufficient for me to commute between Damansara and Shah Alam for about four days. It's also more economical than using petrol, costing only about RM30 per charge. 'Another thing is that your driving style affects energy usage too. If you drive more aggressively, it uses more power. For me, EVs are not meant for fast driving but for consistent, steady driving without rushing,' said Rosmah Idayu, who has driven her EV to Desaru, Johor, and Penang without any issue. — Bernama
