‘Gimme A Break, Nissan:' Woman's Car Says She Has Low Fuel. Then She Sees How Many Miles She Has Left on Her Current Tank

A woman's innocent joke about her low fuel light sparked an internet discussion on safety and vehicle maintenance. TikTok user Alexis White ( @alexiswhite25 ) posted her thoughts in a June 15 video. Get the best news, reviews, columns, and more delivered straight to your inbox, daily. back Sign up For more information, read our Privacy Policy and Terms of Use . 'My car just notified me that I have low fuel,' White says in the post. 'You want to guess how many miles that I have left until empty? Seventy two. Homegirl, let me know when I'm down to like, 10, OK?' In the caption, she writes, 'I have like three more trips before I have to fill up. Gimme a break, Nissan.' Her post has 1.1 million views as of this writing. What Are the Risks of Driving on Low Fuel? Trending Now 'So Who Was Gonna Tell Me?': Woman Goes Through Car Wash On 'Really Hot' Day. Then Her Windshield Cracks 'Do Not Leave Your Car Out in the Heat:' Woman Says It's So Hot Her Grandmother's Buick's Tires Exploded. Is That Possible? According to the car insurance company Progressive , it's a bad idea to drive on a low tank for a number of reasons. First and foremost, this can lead to you running out of gas and being stranded on the side of the road. But that's not all. It can also damage your fuel pump , which needs a certain level of gas (usually about a quarter of a tank) to keep running smoothly. Otherwise, air will get into the mechanism and that can cause it to overheat. Additionally, driving without enough gas is bad for your vehicle's engine and catalytic converter . That's because low fuel can cause an engine knock that permanently damages the engine. When your engine misfires, fuel leaks into the catalytic converter, which can cause damage. 'Be Careful' Every car's gas gauge is different. The number of miles left can also vary depending on driving style, road conditions, and weather. And you can't be sure you'll be within driving distance to a gas station if you wait until that light comes on. So it's generally accepted as best practice not to simply wait until your fuel light comes on to refill. In the comments, viewers offered a mix of perspectives on White's low fuel light strategy. Some said they push the limit even further than she does. 'Me, personally, I wait until I have to throw it into neutral and roll into the gas station,' joked one driver. However, others said this could potentially damage her vehicle. 'Start saving for a fuel pump, I guess,' suggested one viewer. One person said this attitude is a potential safety hazard. 'Be careful,' they wrote. 'My car told me 39 miles and I ran out of gas. I had to hear my husband lecture me about how that number is an estimate based on terrain and average gas mileage. Nothing worse than being on the side of the road, watching my husband rescue me, and getting a lecture.' Elsewhere in the comments, fellow Nissan owners backed this lecture up. 'My Nissan will either let me know at 70 or 17,' wrote one person. Motor1 reached out to White via TikTok comment and direct message for comment. We'll be sure to update this if she responds. PGR shares have rallied 25.7% over the past 52 weeks, substantially outpacing both the S&P 500 Index's ($SPX) 12.1% rise but lagging behind the Financial Select Sector SPDR Fund's (XLF) 26.3% return over the same period. On June 9, shares of Progressive fell 4.7% before closing down 2.9%, despite no company-specific news. The decline was driven by broader concerns in the insurance sector, including signs of softening property insurance pricing and analyst downgrades. Wall Street analysts are moderately optimistic about PGR's stock, with a "Moderate Buy" rating overall. Berkshire Stock Falls 8% in 3 Months: Should You Buy the Dip?

Shares of Berkshire Hathaway Inc. ( BRK.B ) have lost 7.8% in the past three months, underperforming the industry 's decline of 6.7%, the Finance sector's increase of 4.8% and the Zacks S&P 500 composite's increase of 9.1% in the said time frame. BRK.B is now trending below its 50-day simple moving average (SMA), indicating the possibility of a downside ahead. Berkshire Vs Industry, Sector, S&P 500 Shares of Chubb Limited CB and The Progressive Corporation PGR have lost 4.9% and 4.7% in the past three months, respectively. Chubb, a prominent global provider of property and casualty insurance and reinsurance, is strategically leveraging growth opportunities within the middle-market segment in both domestic and international arenas. The insurer is driving long-term expansion by strengthening its core package offerings and expanding its portfolio of specialty insurance products. In addition, Chubb continues to invest in key strategic initiatives that support its broader growth objectives and competitive positioning. Progressive, one of the largest auto insurance groups in the United States, is well-equipped to maintain profitability, supported by its strong market position, broad product suite, and superior underwriting and operational execution. Progressive has refined its strategy to emphasize bundled auto products, limit exposure to high-risk properties, and enhance segmentation through the introduction of innovative, targeted insurance solutions. BRK.B Shares Are Expensive The stock is overvalued compared with its industry. It is currently trading at a price-to-book multiple of 1.59, higher than the industry average of 1.55. Berkshire is relatively cheap compared to Progressive and Chubb. Average Target Price for BRK.B Suggests Upside Based on short-term price targets offered by four analysts, the Zacks average price target is $537.75 per share. The average suggests a potential 10.6% upside from the last closing price. What's Working in Favor of Berkshire Hathaway? Berkshire Hathaway's insurance operations form the core of its business model, accounting for roughly one-quarter of total revenues and serving as a key engine of long-term growth. With extensive market exposure, disciplined pricing and robust underwriting performance, the insurance segment is well-equipped to perform even under adverse market conditions. Complementing its insurance strength, Berkshire's diversified structure adds resilience to its overall operations. A major stabilizing force is Berkshire Hathaway Energy (BHE), the company's energy subsidiary, which focuses heavily on renewable energy. As a regulated utility, BHE generates stable and predictable cash flows that are largely insulated from economic cycles. Its strong financial foundation and long-term commitment to clean energy make it a growing pillar of Berkshire's future growth in a world rapidly shifting toward electrification and sustainability. The Utilities and Energy segment is further supported by Burlington Northern Santa Fe (BNSF) though it faces challenges such as a less favorable business mix and declining fuel surcharge income. Still, rising demand for utility services is expected to bolster future performance in this segment. Berkshire's Manufacturing, Service, and Retail divisions also stand to gain from an improving economic climate, with heightened consumer activity fueling revenue expansion and margin growth. Meanwhile, continued growth in the insurance segment has driven the expansion of Berkshire's insurance float—the pool of premiums held before claims are paid—from approximately $114 billion at the end of 2017 to $173 billion as of first-quarter 2025. This float serves as a low-cost source of capital, which Berkshire has skillfully deployed into high-quality businesses and investments with durable earnings and strong returns, including major stakes in Apple, Coca-Cola, BNSF Railway and various utilities. The company's strong financial position also supports consistent share repurchases—an effective capital allocation strategy that enhances shareholder value over the long term. Berkshire Hathaway's Return on Capital Return on equity ('ROE') in the trailing 12 months was 7.2%, underperforming the industry average of 7.8%. Return on equity, a profitability measure, reflects how effectively a company is utilizing its shareholders' funds. It is noteworthy that though BRK.B's ROE is lagging the industry average, the company has been continuously generating improved ROE. Image Source: Zacks Investment Research The same holds true for return on invested capital (ROIC), which has increased every year since 2020. This reflects BRK.B's efficiency in utilizing funds to generate income. However, ROIC in the trailing 12 months was 5.7%, lower than the industry average of 6%. Muted Analyst Sentiment The Zacks Consensus Estimate for 2025 earnings implies a 6.7% year-over-year decrease, while the same for 2026 suggests a 5% increase. The expected long-term earnings growth is pegged at 7%, better than the industry average of 6.8%. The consensus estimate for 2025 and 2026 earnings witnessed no movement in the past 30 days. Parting Thoughts on BRK.B Shares Berkshire Hathaway is a conglomerate with more than 90 subsidiaries engaged in diverse business activities. Thus, holding shares of Berkshire Hathaway renders dynamism to shareholders' portfolios. BRK.B has delivered significant value to shareholders for almost six decades under the leadership of Buffett. The focus will now shift to how the behemoth performs when Greg Abel succeeds Warren Buffett as CEO of Berkshire, effective Jan. 1, 2026. Warren Buffett will continue to be the company's executive chairman. Given Berkshire Hathaway's premium valuation, unfavorable return on capital and muted analyst sentiments surrounding the company, it is better to adopt a wait-and-see approach for this Zacks Rank #3 (Hold) stock. First Thing: Mamdani wins NYC mayoral primary after Cuomo concedes

Good morning. Zohran Mamdani, the 33-year-old democratic socialist, declared victory in New York City's Democratic primary Tuesday night as former governor Andrew Cuomo conceded the race. With 93% of votes counted in the primary's first round, the progressive who is now favored to become the city's first Muslim mayor had 43.5% of the vote, with Cuomo trailing behind at 36.4%. As he conceded, Cuomo said Mamdani had run a 'really smart and good and impactful campaign'. Mamdani's victory – after he ran on a cost-of-living platform that included rent freezes – comes amid deep fissures within his party, highlighted after two union leaders resigned from its top leadership board over the party's direction. What happens now? As neither candidate is likely to reach 50%, the board of elections will now add up people's second-choice votes – from which Mamdani is expected to benefit more. How likely is he to be elected mayor in November's general mayoral election? Cuomo may still run as an independent, but Mamdani is the favorite, given incumbent Eric Adams's unpopularity and the city voting heavily Democratic. Donald Trump's strikes on Iran's nuclear facilities at the weekend did not destroy two of the sites and probably only delayed its nuclear program by a few months, according to two people familiar with a classified initial assessment report. The report by the Pentagon's intelligence arm found that key components of the nuclear program could be restarted within months and that much of its highly enriched uranium was moved before the strike. How has the leaked report been received? Trump is angry about it – and the White House has claimed its an attempt to 'demean' him. The Trump administration has approved a $30m grant to the controversial Gaza Humanitarian Foundation (GHF), despite a chaotic rollout during which Israeli forces have killed hundreds of Palestinians near distribution centers policed by soldiers and private military contractors. GHF's critics say it has politicised the distribution of aid, as it reportedly collaborates with the Israeli government. Insiders said the application for the grant was rushed through the state department unusually fast for a first-time applicant. What does the US state department say? It refused to comment on internal deliberations, but a spokesperson said: 'We are constantly looking for creative solutions to get aid into Gaza without it being looted by Hamas, and GHF stepped up.' A man on his honeymoon in Florida recently died after reportedly being struck by lightning from a storm several miles away. An appeals court has ordered the Trump administration to return Jordin Melgar-Salmeron to the US after it wrongfully deported him to El Salvador. Kenyans are marking the first anniversary of a storming of parliament last year, but there are fears the action could escalate. A notorious 19-year-old Doge staffer nicknamed 'Big Balls' has resigned from the US government, a White House official said. Despite up to 91% of people in the US and Europe saying they would be willing to try plant-based 'alternative meats', just about 20% would consider eating insects, polling has found. It seems most can't get over the yuck factor, meaning encouraging them to eat insects is unlikely to help cut down on environmentally detrimental meat consumption. Efforts, therefore, should be directed elsewhere.
