Satria driver in viral accident pleads not guilty to dangerous driving
SEREMBAN: The driver of a Proton Satria involved in a viral accident here last Sunday claimed trial at the magistrate's court here today to a charge of dangerous driving. Accused Iskandar Abd Aris, 20, a food delivery rider, pleaded not guilty when the charge was read before magistrate Saiful Sayoti. According to the charge, he was accused of driving a Proton Satria recklessly in a manner dangerous to the public. The charge under Section 42(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987 carries up to five years in jail and a fine of between RM5,000 and RM15,000, along with disqualification from holding or obtaining a driving licence for at least five years. If convicted, his probationary licence may be revoked. The accused pleaded guilty to another charge under Section 26(1) of the same act for driving without a valid licence. If convicted, he faces a fine of between RM300 and RM2,000 or imprisonment for up to three months or both. Both offences were committed about 2am in Persiaran Senawang 1 on July 6. Earlier, deputy public prosecutor Muhammad Zul Azrin Zainuddin proposed that bail be set at RM12,000 for the dangerous driving charge and requested a new mention date to submit a social report for the charge of driving without a licence. Lawyer Noor Syairah Izzati Mohd Noor appealed for low bail, saying that her client works as a food delivery rider and supports three siblings and a mother with health issues. The court set bail at RM3,300 and fixed Aug 21 for case mention and submission of documents and the social report. It was reported that a Proton Satria driven by a 19-year-old overturned before crashing into a Perodua Axia in Persiaran Senawang 1 on July 6. The driver was allegedly street racing. District police chief Assistant Commissioner Mohamad Hatta Che Din had said an 18-year-old female passenger in the Perodua Axia was seriously injured, while the Proton Satria driver sustained minor injuries.

Gang busted over gas cylinder thefts in Kedah
SUNGAI PETANI: Police have crippled "Geng Raji", believed to be behind a string of gas cylinder thefts in Kuala Muda district. Two men, aged 30 and 36, were arrested, leading to the discovery of stolen items and burglary tools. Kuala Muda police chief Assistant Commissioner Hanyan Ramlan said: "Both tested positive for methamphetamine. They also have records for drugs and criminal offences. "During interrogation, the suspects admitted to stealing four lorry batteries." Police detained a 45-year-old man suspected of buying stolen gas cylinders from the gang. Twenty-one gas cylinders believed to be stolen were recovered. Hanyan said the group targeted gas cylinders left outside homes and eateries. "We are tracking down two other gang members." Investigations found that the suspects had bought a used motorcycle and a Proton Satria using the proceeds from the thefts. The suspects have been remanded.

David Bogie recorded a 12th win on the McDonald and Munro Speyside Stages on Saturday. The Dumfries driver and navigator co-driver John Rowan kicked off their Asset Alliance Group Scottish Rally Championship challenge in style. The duo dominated the Elgin-based event in their Skoda Fabia RS to finish 47 seconds ahead of their nearest challengers, despite suffering a puncture during their second loop of the stages. Castle Douglas' Jock Armstrong and Dumfries' Owen Paterson were sixth in their Fabia, one place ahead of the Proton Satria of Mark McCulloch of Dumfries. Keith and Mairi Riddick from Haugh of Urr finished 19th overall and fifth in class S2 on their four-wheel drive debut in a Mitsubishi Evo 8. Factory, workers' quarters in Menggatal go up in smoke
A factory and workers' quarters in Menggatal destroyed in the fire. KOTA KINABALU (April 29): A factory and workers' quarters in Menggatal were destroyed in an early morning fire on Tuesday. Lintas fire station chief Agustavia Joe Guasi said 24 firefighters from Lintas, Kota Kinabalu and Tuaran fire stations were deployed to the location upon receiving a distress call at 3.50am. The fire destroyed the factory, workers' quarters, a tanker truck, a fork lift, a Proton Satria car and a pick-up truck. Firefighters only managed to control the blaze by 5am, said Agustavia. No untoward incident was reported while the cause of the fire and total loss are under investigation.

Early morning fire destroys timber mill, workers' quarters and vehicles
KOTA KINABALU: A timber mill and workers' quarters on Jalan Kokol, Manggatal, were completely destroyed in a fire early this morning. The blaze also engulfed four vehicles, including a tanker lorry. Lintas Fire and Rescue Station chief Agustavia Joe Guasi confirmed that they received an emergency call at 3.50am. He said 23 officers and personnel, along with three fire engines and the Emergency Medical Rescue Service (EMRS) unit from the Lintas, Kota Kinabalu, and Tuaran Fire and Rescue Stations, were deployed to the scene. "The fire caused the timber mill and the semi-permanent workers' quarters to be entirely destroyed. "In addition, a tanker lorry, a forklift, a Proton Satria car, and a four-wheel-drive vehicle were also destroyed in the blaze," he said in a statement released today. Fortunately, no casualties were reported, and the fire was brought under control by 5.08am. "The firefighting team is still working to extinguish the remaining hotspots," he said. The cause of the fire and the estimated losses are still under investigation.
