
Early morning fire destroys timber mill, workers' quarters and vehicles
The blaze also engulfed four vehicles, including a tanker lorry.
Lintas Fire and Rescue Station chief Agustavia Joe Guasi confirmed that they received an emergency call at 3.50am.
He said 23 officers and personnel, along with three fire engines and the Emergency Medical Rescue Service (EMRS) unit from the Lintas, Kota Kinabalu, and Tuaran Fire and Rescue Stations, were deployed to the scene.
"The fire caused the timber mill and the semi-permanent workers' quarters to be entirely destroyed.
"In addition, a tanker lorry, a forklift, a Proton Satria car, and a four-wheel-drive vehicle were also destroyed in the blaze," he said in a statement released today.
Fortunately, no casualties were reported, and the fire was brought under control by 5.08am.
"The firefighting team is still working to extinguish the remaining hotspots," he said.
The cause of the fire and the estimated losses are still under investigation.

TAMPARULI: Six people sustained minor injuries in a two-vehicle collision involving a Toyota Hiace van and a Proton Saga along Jalan Tamparuli-Ranau near Kampung Togop, here, last Sunday afternoon. The incident occurred at about 2.45pm. All victims, whose identities were not immediately known, were reported to be in stable condition. The team arrived with one fire engine and an Emergency Medical Rescue Services (EMRS) vehicle. 'All six victims were handed over to Health Ministry (KKM) and Civil Defence Force (APM) personnel before being sent to Tuaran Hospital for further treatment,' he said. Firefighters also conducted safety checks on both vehicles and the surrounding area to rule out other hazards. The cause of the accident is under investigation. Wedding joy turns tragic as cousins killed in crash
PENAMPANG: Two cousins died and another was injured when their car veered off the road and plunged into a ravine along Jalan Penampang-Tambunan near Kampung Moyog last night. The 8pm crash claimed the lives of the driver, Steve Oyong, 54, and a passenger, Rayner Jentolmin@Condrad, 49. The only survivor, Maxwell Minor, 29, was taken to hospital for treatment. They were returning to Kampung Madsiang after attending a relative's wedding in Tambunan. Penampang Fire and Rescue Station chief Zeno Tingalan said an emergency call was received at 8.15pm. "Nine personnel, along with a fire engine and an Emergency Medical Rescue Services unit, were deployed to the location, about 28km from the station," he said in a statement today. He said the crash involved an Isuzu Bighorn, which skidded and plunged into a ravine. "The team retrieved all three victims. Two were confirmed dead at the scene, while the injured man was given initial treatment by EMRS before being sent to hospital," he said. Zeno said the bodies were handed over to the police for further action, and the operation concluded at 10.37pm.

Kota Kinabalu: A mother and her son escaped unhurt after their car crashed into a sewage treatment pond along Jalan Loji, Taman Kingfisher, Friday morning. The 8.30am incident involved a Perodua Viva. According to the Sabah Fire and Rescue Department, both the 79-year-old woman and her 49-year-old son were trapped inside but rescued by passers-by before firemen arrived. 'The senior citizen managed to exit the vehicle through the rear door, holding onto a wooden stick extended by members of the public. 'The driver escaped through the driver's side window in a similar manner. 'Among those who helped was an off-duty firefighter, PBK I Hasrulnizam Md Zain, who happened to be passing by,' said Lintas Fire and Rescue Station Chief Agustavia Joe Guasi. A 10-member team from the Lintas Fire and Rescue Station arrived at the scene within minutes. The operation concluded at 8.54am after ensuring the site was safe.
