2025 Purdue PreviewPurdue Offense BreakdownPurdue Defense Breakdown Purdue Boilermakers Key to the Season Get the passing game to defense will be far, far better, but it still won't be the 1985 Chicago Bears. Between Bobby Knight, Larry Bird, Hoosiers, and high school gyms across the state, Indiana is the basketball capital of America, and the Indiana Pacers, after 25 years, finally punched their ticket to the NBA Finals. Advertisement On their home court at Gainbridge Fieldhouse, the Pacers celebrated after beating the New York Knicks in Game 6 of the Eastern Conference Finals, and head coach Rick Carlsile rose to the occasion, reminding his fans that they are the best in the world. "In 49 states, it's just basketball, but this is Indiana!" proclaimed Carlisle on the court after the Pacers sent the Knicks home. Between elite college programs like Indiana University and Purdue, and a culture of high school ball, Indiana is at the center of basketball at all levels, and their NBA superstars and WNBA phenom Caitlin Clark have kept Indiana on the map. After the Pacers secured their Finals appearance, messages poured in from all over the Indiana sporting world. Purdue, which hasn't boasted a Pacers player since Brad Miller in 2003, also took to social media to share a message of support. While the Pacers have enjoyed their successes this season, amateur basketball remains at the center of the state's basketball culture, and Thomas Bryant, who helped lead the Hoosiers to the Sweet Sixteen in 2016, was seen soaking up the moment. Former Pioneer donates $10,000 to youth football league in Boonville
BONVILLE, Ind. (WEHT) — It was a time to reminisce at Boonville High School for former Pioneer and current Purdue Boilermaker running back Devin Mockobee. He stopped by for a meet-and-greet to meet fans and family and also give back to the program where he got his start. The former Pioneer made a $10,000 donation to the youth football league in Boonville. 'That's just the kind of kid he is, he's humble, he's hardworking, and he's a great representation for us,' Boonville Athletic Director Kevin Davis said. Mockobee's start in the Boonville Youth Football League would translate to a historic career for the Pioneers, the chance to play for the Purdue Boilermakers and the opportunity to give back to the program that started it all. 'That fostered my love for football and it led me to where I am today,' Mockobee said. 'I wanted to give something back to the kids to be able to get them new gear new this or that so that they can maximize their experience with it so they can love the game as much as I did.' Purdue Makes Big Announcement For Braden Smith's Senior Season
Braden Smith and the Purdue Boilermakers couldn't get it done in the 2025 NCAA Tournament, falling to the Houston Cougars in the Sweet 16. Following the disappointing exit, the junior guard had a big decision to make regarding the 2025 NBA Draft. After taking some time to think about it, Smith announced he would be returning for his senior season. With the All-American coming back, Purdue has become one of the favorites to win the 2026 title. Advertisement "Running it back one last time," Smith wrote on Instagram. "Purdue has given me everything: memories, challenges, growth, and a family. There's still more to prove, more to accomplish, and more moments to create with my brothers." With excitement brewing for the 2025-26 season in West Lafayette, Indiana, Purdue announced its non-conference schedule on Tuesday morning. "What's ahead of us," Purdue Men's Basketball wrote on X. "🚂 The non-conference schedule." Along with tough competition in the Big Ten, Purdue will be taking on numerous non-conference teams that made the 2025 tournament. Purdue will open the new season with an exhibition against the Kentucky Wildcats before facing another SEC team, the Alabama Crimson Tide, in mid-November. It will also face Iowa State, Marquette and Auburn in December. Kansas City has several needs to address in the draft, and will need to leverage every asset it has to get back to the Super Bowl next season.
