Brock Purdy won't be elite until he improves in one specific area
San Francisco 49ers quarterback Brock Purdy has miraculously hit the ground running as an NFL quarterback despite being selected with the final pick in the 2022 NFL draft. He long ago cleared all reasonable expectations for his draft position. There are new expectations now that Purdy has received a five-year, $265 million contract extension. There's one major area Purdy has to improve if he's going to meet or exceed those expectations. The raw data tells us Purdy has been an extremely productive signal caller since stepping in as the 49ers No. 1 QB in Week 13 of the 2022 season. There have been debates about Purdy's impact on a very productive 49ers offense, but he continues to be a really good player by virtually every metric. One thing about Purdy's statistical profile stands out, though, and it may be the thing holding him back from being a consensus "elite" quarterback. He is not good when the 49ers are trailing. Here are Purdy's career numbers in three game scenarios via Pro Football Reference: 49ers lead: 363-527 (68.9%), 4,942 yards (9.4 YPA), 35 TD, 7 INT, 115.2 RTG 49ers tied: 146-220 (66.4%), 1,801 yards (8.2 YPA), 14 TD, 4 INT, 105.1 RTG 49ers trail: 213-322 (66.2%), 2,775 yards (8.6 YPA), 15 TD, 16 INT, 87.9 RTG There is some expected drop off with his team behind. The interceptions could tick up especially if the 49ers are trailing late and they have to throw. A leap in interception rate from 1.4% with the 49ers tied or leading, to 7.5% when they're behind is catastrophic. This is something Purdy has to clean up if he's going to launch himself into the upper echelon of NFL QBs. And it isn't even about the production. It's just about the back-breaking turnovers Purdy is prone to when the 49ers are behind late in a game. Last season he threw four interceptions on 49 attempts (8.2% INT rate) with his team behind with fewer than four minutes to play. It's also worth noting he has zero touchdowns in those situations in his career along with eight interceptions. Those are wasted opportunities to not only come back, but to stamp himself as a player who can carry the 49ers to wins. Purdy ideally won't have to carry the 49ers to anything. A well-rounded team that is consistently dominant is the preferred route to victory. There will be times the club leans on its franchise QB to lead them to victory, however, and his ability to do that instead of struggling when they're behind will ultimately determine if he can elevate himself into the NFL's elite QB tier. Fortnite refund: How can you get yours after FTC announces $126m settlement, find out full process
Fortnite players who were wrongly charged for unwanted in-game purchases are set to receive a share of a $126 million refund this week, following a settlement with the Federal Trade Commission (FTC). The refunds stem from a $245 million agreement reached between the FTC and Fortnite's developer, Epic Games, over allegations of deceptive online practices that led to players, including minors, being tricked into making unauthorised purchases. FTC initially announced the settlement in December 2022, marking it as the largest refund the agency had ever issued in a gaming industry case. The settlement follows accusations that Epic Games misled consumers into making in-game transactions they otherwise wouldn't have made. FTC also announced it will issue nearly 970,000 checks and PayPal payments to those who submitted valid claims, following an earlier round of payments in December 2022 totalling over $22 million. For Fortnite players seeking compensation, the FTC has set up a dedicated website where they can confirm their eligibility for a refund. The original deadline for filing claims was February 14, but the agency has now extended it to July 9. Players who have already submitted a claim after February 14 need not take further action. Those receiving checks are advised to cash them within 90 days, while PayPal refunds must be accepted within 30 days. To apply for a refund, players will need their claim number or Epic Account ID. For those under 18, a parent or guardian will need to submit the claim on their behalf. Players on social media have shared screenshots, confirming their refund amounts. Just got my Fortnite epic games refund — NATE (@NATERERUN) June 25, 2025 WE SO UP THANK YOU FORTNITE EPIC GAMES (I spent way more then that 😭💔) — Purdy (@Purdy6969) June 25, 2025 Fortnite is STILL paying us 💀 Did you file a FTC v Epic Games claim last year? More people are reporting they're starting to receive their payments! I totally forgot about mine lmao — Frugal Season (@Frugalszn) June 25, 2025 This action follows a separate 2023 agreement in which Epic Games was fined $275 million for violating the Children's Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA) Rule, adding further scrutiny to the company's practices.

NFC West quarterbacks ranked as second-best division group in NFL
ranked the eight NFL divisions by their starting quarterbacks. The NFC West comes in second. In the part of the offseason where lists, rankings and projections rule, we welcome more rankings. This time, it is quarterback rankings, but with a twist. Rather than just ranking the quarterbacks in the league, Nick Shook ranked the eight divisions in the league by their quarterbacks. The NFC West, where the Arizona Cardinals play, was ranked No. 2, having the second-best group of quarterbacks, behind the AFC West. The AFC West has Patrick Mahomes, Justin Herbert, Geno Smith and Bo Nix. In the Cardinals' division, of course, there is Kyler Murray, Matthew Stafford, Brock Purdy and now Sam Darnold. This division carries the most potential for volatility entering 2025. Murray appears to be entering a pivotal season with the Cardinals, having yet to put up the kind of wire-to-wire performance that would put a permanent end to speculation about the seventh-year pro's future with the franchise. I know, it seems outrageous, considering Murray's capabilities, but game-by-game consistency was lacking in 2024. Purdy, meanwhile, just signed a lucrative deal that delivered a long-overdue payday to the former Mr. Irrelevant; now, the pressure will be on him to deliver during what might be a transitional year for San Francisco. Darnold is likely feeling a similarly heavy weight after signing with Seattle following a career year in Minnesota; the move placed him in another new situation with even greater responsibility. And finally, Stafford resolved his contractual standoff with the Rams and is back for his 17th NFL season. Do you see how this could all go horribly wrong? Murray could struggle. Purdy could end up as a victim of surrounding circumstances. Darnold could revert back to a passing pumpkin. The 37-year-old Stafford could feel the effects of Father Time. Or, it will all go right, the NFC West will produce three playoff teams and this group will live up to its end-of-2024 ranking. For now, the quartet is far from guaranteed to follow a strong 2024 with more collective excellence in 2025. As good as these guys can be, it might be the division with the biggest question marks for all four starters. In the individual rankings Shook used, Stafford is the highest at No. 8, followed by Darnold at No. 13, Purdy and No. 14 and Murray at No. 17. These were based on performance at the end of last season. This group, at its ceiling, might be the best group in the league, but when Mahomes and Herbert, along with the rookie year that Nix had, it is understandable why they would be above the NFC West's group. Three Iranian regime members ordered out of Canada, have visas cancelled
OTTAWA — Three people have been found ineligible to remain in Canada in recent years for being senior officials of the Iranian regime, the federal border agency says. Deportation orders were issued for all three and one has been removed from Canada, the Canada Border Services Agency said Wednesday. In 2022, Ottawa declared Iran's leaders — including senior government and security agency officials — inadmissible to Canada due to involvement in terrorism and human rights violations. The border agency says the designation, which was expanded last year, denies any senior official of the regime access to Canada in the first place. It also allows the agency to take immigration enforcement action against any regime member who came to Canada before or after the designation. The current hostilities between Israel and Iran have drawn more attention to the possible activities of Iranian regime members in Canada. Border agency spokeswoman Rebecca Purdy said the agency works very closely with domestic and international partners by sharing relevant information on border and national security issues. Those efforts include the agency's support for Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada, which makes decisions on citizenship and immigration applications, including visas, she said. All Iranian nationals must apply for a visa to come to Canada and visa applicants are carefully assessed by the immigration department, she added. The border agency investigates when it becomes aware of a temporary or permanent resident inside Canada who may be inadmissible as a senior official of a designated regime. If the case is well-founded, it's referred to the Immigration and Refugee Board, Purdy said. If the board determines a person is inadmissible, it issues an order against them and the border agency then works to remove them from Canada. As of June 6, about 17,800 applications were reviewed for potential inadmissibility due to possible links to the Iranian regime, while immigration officials had cancelled 131 visas and the border agency had opened 115 investigations. Forty-nine of those investigations have been concluded by the border agency, meaning the individuals in question were either not in Canada or were found not to be a senior official in the Iranian regime and therefore not inadmissible, Purdy said. The remaining cases are subject to ongoing investigations or enforcement action, she said. The border agency has requested admissibility hearings at the Immigration and Refugee Board in the cases of 12 people suspected of being senior members of the Iranian regime. Admissibility hearings have concluded in five of those 12 cases, Purdy said. Three individuals were issued deportation orders for being senior regime officials. Two others were not found inadmissible, but the border agency is appealing to the Immigration Appeal Division in both cases. Six cases are ongoing and one has been withdrawn by the border agency. 'The CBSA works in an operating environment that changes on a daily basis and we are ready to respond and adapt as needed,' Purdy said. 'To address this situation, additional resources have been engaged to ensure safe and secure border management as necessary.' Public Safety Canada spokesperson Noemie Allard said Wednesday that the department and its portfolio agencies 'continue to monitor the residual impact of the evolving situation in the Middle East.' Canada's law enforcement agencies 'remain on alert and are working together to ensure the safety and security of all communities in Canada during this challenging time,' Allard added. It emerged last year that former Liberal justice minister and longtime human rights activist Irwin Cotler was under RCMP protection due to an alleged Iranian assassination plot. Cotler, an outspoken critic of the Iranian regime, expressed concern Wednesday about the ongoing threats and intimidation emanating from Tehran against the diaspora community in Canada. Cotler, international chair of the Raoul Wallenberg Centre for Human Rights, said Canada should establish a standalone agency to address the phenomenon of transnational repression. 'We need an independent agency for that purpose,' he said in an interview. Cotler, citing the lone deportation of an Iranian regime member, also wants to see more prosecutions of such individuals in Canada.
