‘Babua' agitated over exposure of loot, corruption under previous govt: Yogi

1 2 Gorakhpur/Azamgarh: Launching a veiled attack on SP chief Akhilesh Yadav over corruption in JPNIC project, Chief Minister Adityanath on Wednesday said "a CBI inquiry is ongoing into the project and that is why 'Babua' is furious about the exposure of loot and corruption". Although the CM didn't name the SP chief in his speech, the reference was obvious. Launching a massive plantation drive in the state by planting saplings in Gorakhpur, Ayodhya and Azamgarh, the CM attacked the previous SP govt and cited figures related to Purvanchal Expressway and JPNIC and said the revelation of corruption left 'Babua' that rampant corruption and loot was witnessed in the implementation of schemes before 2017, Yogi said: "The SP govt gave tender for the 341-kilometre-long and 110-metre-wide Purvanchal Expressway for Rs 15,200 crore. In contrast, the BJP's double-engine govt increased the width to 120 metres, re-tendered it, and reduced the cost to Rs 11,800 crore." "Those who engaged in corruption are now giving sermons. JP (Jayaprakash Narayan) was known for value-based politics and opposing nepotism, but the SP govt tarnished his name. The JPNIC project, initially costing Rs 200 crore, incurred expenses of Rs 860 crore by March 2017 without completion, prompting a CBI investigation. 'Babua' who was talking about ethics is now agitated by the exposure of corruption," he said. The CM criticised parties questioning the BJP govt, saying that they even "question the campaign of planting 37 crore saplings in a day, while they did nothing when given the opportunity". "They used schemes to plunder public money. Our govt introduced 'One District One Product' and 'One District One Crop', while the SP, Congress, and BSP govts gave 'One District, One Mafia', spreading venom in society in the name of nepotism and firing on the devotees of Lord Ram," Yogi said. He said that under previous govts, forest mafia conducted illegal logging, mining mafias engaged in illegal excavations, and land mafias seized the property of the poor. "There was chaos in the state. Today, the govt has implemented a zero-tolerance policy against mafias across the state. Before 2017, the youth of the state faced an identity crisis. Today, when a person from UP goes outside, the mention of their connection to the state brings a smile to the face of the listener," he said. During his visit to Azamgarh, where he planted a Harishankari Vatika along the expressway in Kerma village, Yogi issued a warning to anti-social and anti-national elements, asserting that the govt was taking decisive action against those involved in such activities. Citing the arrest of Chhangur Baba in Balrampur, who is accused of orchestrating mass conversions, the CM said, "We apprehended a criminal yesterday who was exploiting Hindu women. Such elements are now being dealt with sternly. We will not allow society to fragment. We will crush all anti-national and anti-social forces." Referring to the period before 2017, the CM said that large-scale deforestation and illegal mining by forest and mining mafias led to lawlessness and environmental degradation. "There was no development, only destruction. In contrast, our govt's initiative is transforming heatwaves into greenwaves. Azamgarh has sent many prominent leaders to Parliament but it was only after Nirahua became MP that expressways, a university in the name of Maharaja Suheldev, a music college, and extensive road networks became a reality," the CM said.

Transforming Uttar Pradesh: The Ganga Expressway and Gorakhpur Link Expressway

VMPL New Delhi [India], June 21: Uttar Pradesh is witnessing a remarkable transformation in its infrastructure landscape, spearheaded by ambitious projects like the Ganga Expressway and the Gorakhpur Link Expressway. These expressways are not just roads; they are lifelines that promise to accelerate economic growth, enhance connectivity, and improve the quality of life for millions. The Ganga Expressway: A Game-Changer in Connectivity Spanning an impressive 594 kilometers, the Ganga Expressway is a 6 lane (expandable to 8 lanes) greenfield expressway connecting Meerut in western Uttar Pradesh to Prayagraj in the east. Designed for a maximum speed of 120 km/h, it is one of India's longest expressways and aims to reduce travel time between these two cities from 10-12 hours to just about 6 hours. Traversing 12 key districts, including Meerut, Amroha, Budaun, Shahjahanpur, Hardoi, Raebareli, and Prayagraj, the expressway integrates seamlessly with major corridors such as the Purvanchal Expressway, Yamuna Expressway, Agra-Lucknow Expressway, and Delhi-Meerut Expressway. This network enhances both regional and national connectivity, making Uttar Pradesh a pivotal hub in northern India. The infrastructure is world-class, featuring 2 main toll plazas (Meerut and Prayagraj), 15 ramp toll plazas, 9 public convenience centers, 14 major bridges, 126 minor bridges, 28 flyovers, 7 rail overbridges, and 929 culverts. A unique feature is the 3.5-kilometer emergency airstrip at Shahjahanpur, designed for Air Force use. Economically, the Ganga Expressway is set to be a catalyst for industrial, commercial, agricultural, and tourism development along its corridor. It will facilitate faster movement of goods and people, spur real estate growth, and enhance accessibility, thus boosting the overall economic landscape of Uttar Pradesh. Environmental sustainability is a priority, with over 1.8 million saplings planted along the route and the use of fly ash in construction to reduce the carbon footprint. The greenfield design minimises congestion and ensures modern standards of road safety and efficiency. Future plans include extending the expressway by 120 km from Meerut to Muzaffarnagar and further eastward to Ballia, which will increase the total length beyond 1,000 km in subsequent phases, further amplifying its impact. Gorakhpur Link Expressway: Strengthening Eastern Uttar Pradesh Complementing the Ganga Expressway, the Gorakhpur Link Expressway is a crucial greenfield corridor connecting Gorakhpur to the Purvanchal Expressway via Azamgarh. Stretching approximately 91 kilometers, this expressway links four districts--Gorakhpur, Sant Kabir Nagar, Ambedkar Nagar, and Azamgarh--enhancing connectivity in Eastern Uttar Pradesh. Designed as a four-lane expressway (expandable to six lanes), it features multiple bridges and interchanges to ensure smooth and safe travel. The Gorakhpur Link Expressway significantly reduces travel time, promotes industrial growth, and opens new avenues for trade and investment in the eastern region. Conclusion With projects like the Ganga Expressway and Gorakhpur Link Expressway, Uttar Pradesh is rapidly transforming into "Expressway Pradesh." These modern expressways are boosting connectivity, driving economic growth, and linking every corner of the state like never before. Under strong leadership, Uttar Pradesh is setting new standards in infrastructure and development, paving the way for a faster, safer, and more prosperous future.

Azamgarh got new identity under BJP: CM

Azamgarh/Gorakhpur: Accusing the previous govts of turning Azamgarh into a "terror hub", Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Friday said that BJP's double engine govt brought major development to the district giving it a new identity and making it the fortress of "indomitable courage" under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The CM on Friday inaugurated the 91.35-km long Gorakhpur Link Expressway, built at a cost of Rs 7,283 crore, from both its start and end points in Azamgarh and Gorakhpur, respectively, and said that the project would boost connectivity and redefine growth. The expressway, which connects Gorakhpur to Lucknow, will reduce travel time to just 3.5 hours, and will also bring down the travel time from Gorakhpur to Delhi by two hours. Besides improving connectivity, the expressway will have industrial clusters along it which will accelerate development in eastern UP. Hitting out at the previous state govts, Yogi claimed that they used to "partner with D-company and Dawood gang instead of development, breached security and made Azamgarh a stronghold of terror"."Before 2017, people did not take the name of Azamgarh as the district once struggled with an identity crisis despite having given two chief ministers to the state. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like 5 Books Warren Buffett Wants You to Read In 2025 Blinkist: Warren Buffett's Reading List Undo They (opposition parties) aligned with underworld elements instead of prioritising development and turned Azamgarh into a hub of terror," he said. "They joined hands with the D-Company and Dawood's gang, compromising with the state's security," the CM alleged, recalling the murder of Ajit Rai in 2007-08 at Shibli National College for standing up for 'Vande Mataram'. "Now, nobody would dare take law into their own hands," he said. "After 2017, the double-engine govt gave a new identity and recognition to Azamgarh's saree, black pottery, and the music heritage of Hariharpur. After Nirahua and Neelam Sonkar became members of parliament, the district witnessed a rapid wave of development," Yogi said. Speaking about the infrastructural development in the state under his govt, Yogi said that in 2017, there were only two expressways, Yamuna Expressway and Agra–Lucknow Expressway, adding that the latter had to be completed by the BJP govt. "Now, the state also boasts of the 340km Purvanchal Expressway, the 300-km Bundelkhand Expressway, and the 91-km Gorakhpur Link Expressway. In addition to these, work is underway on six more expressways, including the 600km Ganga Expressway, Lucknow-Kanpur, and the Ballia link expressway," he added. The CM said that the Delhi-Meerut Expressway had already cut down the travel time between the two cities from three hours to just 40-45 minutes. "The Ganga Expressway will be inaugurated by the PM by the end of this year. By 2047, when India becomes a developed nation, UP will play a leading role as a developed and self-reliant state," Yogi said. "Before 2017, roads in UP were in such poor condition that it was hard to distinguish the road from the potholes. The foundation stone for the Purvanchal Expressway had been laid, but land had not been acquired. The previous govt wanted to build a 110m wide expressway for Rs 15,200 crore, but the double-engine govt built a wider, 120m expressway for Rs 11,800 crore," he said. Drawing a comparison between UP before 2017 and after, the CM spoke about the recent recruitments of 60,244 police personnel, and said that for the first time, youth from every caste and religion, including 12,045 girls, were selected for govt jobs without any recommendations or bribes. "Before 2017, 'chacha-bhatija' used to go out for extortion, but now it's 'Sabka Saath, Sabka Vikas'. We are developing industrial clusters along expressways to provide jobs to local youths and giving them the respect and recognition they deserve across the country and the world. Today, the youth no longer struggle for an identity. UP now has 16 airports, including four international airports, and four-lane connectivity across the state," he said. He added that the BJP would not allow national and state security to be compromised under any circumstances and referred to Operation Sindoor, surgical strikes, and air strikes as examples of the resolve of 'New India'. At the other end of the Expressway, where the CM addressed another gathering at Bhagwanpur toll plaza, he spoke about the benefits the expressway would bring to Gorakhpur and other parts of eastern UP. He said that in the past eight years, Gorakhpur Industrial Development Authority (GIDA) had attracted investments worth Rs 15,000 crore, generating employment for nearly 40,000 local youth. "With the Gorakhpur Link Expressway now operational, and with Purvanchal, Bundelkhand, and Ganga expressways set to be functional by the end of this year, the UP government is building a network that will redefine growth in the state," he said. "Who would have imagined that areas like Belghat, Khajni and Sikriganj would one day be connected by an expressway? Today, this vision has become reality. While southern Gorakhpur once witnessed large-scale migration, the region is now witnessing signs of industrial growth and job creation, with investment proposals already pouring in," Yogi said. The CM also announced that President Droupadi Murmu would inaugurate the state's first AYUSH University in Bhathat, Gorakhpur, on June 30. He also invited people to participate in the International Yoga Day celebrations on June 21 (Saturday). "Yoga is India's ancient gift to the world, and thanks to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, it received global recognition 11 years ago. Let's adopt a healthy routine by embracing yoga. As our scriptures say, the body is the means to all pursuits, so keeping it healthy is our responsibility," he said.
