Peeved public names potholes after MLAs, strings up sarcastic posters

1 2 Jaipur: Frustrated by months of civic neglect, people in Jaipur are resorting to inventive ways to grab the attention of their elected representatives. From sarcastic posters to naming potholes after MLAs, the public outcry is now making headlines. In Shiv Vihar Colony, residents have put up posters congratulating their MLA, Gopal Sharma, not for any achievement, but for failing to address complaints of contaminated drinking water for over six months. The posters mockingly applaud him for leaving residents to their fate. Local resident Pushpendra Singh said, "Every household here has someone suffering from stomach-related illnesses. If you visit these homes, you'll find medicines worth Rs 15,000. The only reason is filthy, unsafe water for the last six months." According to the residents, despite repeatedly filing complaints through govt portals, calling helpline 181, speaking to the councillor, and even the MLA's PA, no effective solution came. Left with no choice, they decided to express their anguish through public posters. Following the uproar, MLA Gopal Sharma visited the area on Tuesday and stated he was unaware of the problem. Meanwhile, across Jaipur, other citizens have taken their protest to the next level. In areas like Hawa Mahal, Malviya Nagar, and Bagru, residents have "dedicated" potholes to their respective MLAs, naming the damaged spots after them as a symbolic disgrace. "If our honourable leaders are quick to take credit for road construction, they should also take responsibility when things fall apart," a resident said. In Mount Road, Brahmpuri, a large pothole has been named after MLA Balamukundacharya. Another on the main road in Malviya Nagar has been titled after MLA Kalicharan Saraf. A crater in Gulab Vihar (Jagatpura) now bears the name of MLA Kailash Chand Verma.

Jaipur–Delhi travel time set to drop with new Expressway Link; all details here

Travel between Jaipur and Delhi is all set to get significantly quicker, thanks to the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) opening a new 65-km stretch between Bagrana and Bandikui on the Delhi-Mumbai Expressway. Starting soon, this section will be operational on a trial basis, with a formal inauguration by the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways (MoRTH) expected soon, as per a TOI report. The newly opened stretch connects Bagrana, on the outskirts of Jaipur, to Bandikui, offering a faster, more direct route to the expressway. Previously, commuters from Jaipur had to detour via Dausa on the Jaipur-Agra Road to access the expressway. With this development, motorists, especially those coming from Rotary Circle or Ring Road, can now use a cloverleaf ramp and slip lane at Bagrana to reach the expressway directly, reducing traffic congestion and saving valuable travel time. Factoring in the remaining stretch to New Delhi Railway Station or IGI Airport, the full journey from Jaipur to Delhi could take around 3 to 3.5 hours, down from the usual 4.5 hours. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like 10 Mistakes UK Retirees Avoid Once Their Portfolio Reaches £250k Fisher Investments UK Undo The route features four additional interchanges for smoother connectivity at Bhedoli, Khurikurd, Sundarpura, and Geela ki Nangal, making it more accessible for surrounding villages as well. Currently, travelers exit the Delhi-Mumbai Expressway at Bandhrej in Dausa and take the Jaipur-Agra highway, which is often crowded and time-consuming. The new spur allows drivers to avoid this bottleneck entirely, potentially shaving off an hour from the total journey. According to NHAI regional officer Pradeep Atri, the Bandikui-Jaipur section is undergoing a final safety audit, after which remedial measures, if required, will be taken. Once approved, the road will open for trial traffic in July. Its design includes paved shoulders, full access control, and an efficient interchange system that links seamlessly to the main Delhi-Mumbai Expressway. Looking ahead, NHAI is also planning a greenfield expressway to link Jaipur with the Delhi-Agra highway, further enhancing the region's road infrastructure and connectivity. For now, travellers can look forward to faster, smoother travel to Delhi, monsoon or not. Get the latest lifestyle updates on Times of India, along with Doctor's Day 2025 , messages and quotes!
