These are the AI changes coming to parking in Abu Dhabi
Abu Dhabi's parking game is levelling up. A new AI-powered smart public parking system is rolling out across the capital this month, and it could mean the end of fumbling with Mawaqif apps or worrying about fines. Launched by Q Mobility, the pilot phase introduces a suite of intelligent features – including vehicle-based systems that can automatically detect whether a space is occupied and handle payment without drivers lifting a finger. That's right: the days of manually punching in plate numbers or scanning QR codes could be numbered. The new initiative doesn't just aim to make life easier for drivers. It also promises to reduce operational costs, improve compliance, enhance monitoring and support sustainability – all while giving you real-time parking data through smart channels such as the Darb Wallet. With more areas like Eastern Mangroves, Dolphin Park and parts of Al Khaleej Al Arabi Street switching to paid zones, the app has become the main way to pay for parking and tolls. Forget SMS or hunting for a metre – Darb lets you handle it all digitally. Miss a payment or park in the wrong zone? Expect a fine. So, if you're driving in the capital, make sure the Darb app is on your phone and your wallet's topped up – it's now part of the essentials. The pilot zones for AI parking that are already up and running include Eastern Mangroves, Dolphin Park and several sectors along Al Khaleej Al Arabi Street, including Al Khaleej Al Arabi Park 1, 2, 4 and 5 and Al Qurm Plaza. More areas are expected to follow as the system expands. For now, it's still early days – but if this tech-forward approach takes off, Abu Dhabi drivers might just have one less thing to stress about.
