JAIS Calling Organisers Of e-Hati To Record Statement - Mohd Na'im
KEPALA BATAS, July 23 (Bernama) -- The Selangor Islamic Religious Department (JAIS) is currently in the process of summoning the organisers of the e-Hati marriage motivation programme to record statements to assist in investigations into allegations that it contains obscene elements and dubious beliefs. Minister in the Prime Minister's Department (Religious Affairs) Datuk Dr Mohd Na'im Mokhtar said JAIS has summoned several witnesses in relation to the case so far to assist in investigations being conducted under syariah crimes. "The investigation into the case is still ongoing, so we are waiting for the results of the investigation and the investigation under the Penal Code which we have handed over to the police, but JAIS is also cooperating with the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) to see the progress (of the investigation). "JAIS is also conducting an investigation under syariah crimes and JAIS is also calling witnesses to provide statements to assist in the investigation of the case," he said. He told reporters after officiating the Sinar Lestari Programme of the Islamic Economic Development Foundation of Malaysia (YAPEIM) in Penaga here which saw three heads of families received assistance to build their own new houses at the event. Therefore, Mohd Na'im said his party is waiting for a complete report from JAIS regarding the programme. The public was shocked by the revelation of a social media user regarding the e-Hati motivational programme run by a married couple which is said to contain lewd elements and suspicious beliefs. Following this, a married couple including the founder of the company known as eHati along with four other individuals were remanded for three days to assist in investigations into the organisation of the motivational programme. Earlier, YAPEIM together with strategic partners helped build houses involving an allocation of RM240,000 for three beneficiaries in the B40 group from the eKasih list in Penang.

Fund to strengthen Sabah creative industry

KOTA KINABALU (July 22): Communications Minister Datuk Fahmi Fadzil handed over the letters of acceptance for the Creative Content Fund in Kota Kinabalu on Tuesday. The ceremony, which was also witnessed by the Assistant Minister to the Chief Minister, Datuk Nizam Abu Bakar Titingan, symbolises the commitment of the MADANI Government through the Communications Ministry and the National Film Development Corporation Malaysia (FINAS) in supporting the development of the local creative content industry, particularly in Borneo. A total of six production companies from Sabah received offer letters under the Programme Fund, amounting to RM1.15 million, specifically for the production of high-quality super-telefilms in the national language or local ethnic languages. They are D Smart Borneoans Production Sdn Bhd, Empayar Biru (M) Sdn Bhd, Nautica Production Sdn Bhd, Dreamer Visual Sdn Bhd, Del Teraju Sdn Bhd, ONTV Production Sdn Bhd and Telan Bulan Sdn Bhd. This programme aims to enhance local broadcast content and drive strategic collaborations between industry players and broadcasters such as Radio Televisyen Malaysia (RTM) and private media outlets. The event also saw the awarding of a Post-Production Fund worth nearly RM240,000 to a Sabah-based production company, aimed at strengthening technical aspects of post-filming such as visual effects, colour grading, and Dolby Atmos. The handover of these letters of acceptance demonstrates the MADANI Government's determination, through the Communications Ministry, to support artists and creators across the nation in line with the aspiration to position Malaysia as a regional hub for creative content. Also present were the Secretary-General of the Communications Ministry, Datuk Mohamad Fauzi bin Md Isa; FINAS Chairman Dato' Hans Isaac; FINAS Chief Executive Officer Dato' Azmir Saifuddin Mutalib; and Chief Executive Officer Datuk Izelan Basar.

Kuching teacher loses RM240,000 in scam, turns to moneylenders in desperation
Kong in a meeting with Jong and her husband. KUCHING (July 18): A local teacher here fell victim to a scam last year, losing nearly RM240,000. Identified only as 'Jong', she resorted to borrowing from moneylenders and keeping her family in the dark, out of fear and embarrassment. 'However, the situation had spiralled out of control, and when her husband eventually discovered the matter, they worked together to repay all the money borrowed except for one loan,' said Democratic Action Party Sarawak (DAP) Sarawak assistant publicity secretary Michael Kong in a statement today. Jong had taken a RM18,000 loan from a moneylender in December last year, and was given a four-year repayment period. She paid the instalments for January and February this year, but upon her husband's insistence, she offered to settle the entire amount. 'The moneylender refused, insisting that since she had signed a four-year repayment plan, she was obligated to pay the full RM48,000, be it in one lump sum now or over the four-year tenure,' said Kong. He then arranged a meeting between the middle-aged couple and the moneylender. After much persuasion, Kong said the moneylender agreed to terminate the loan arrangement, subject to Jong settling the principal sum of RM18,000 with some added administrative charges. 'This case highlights the danger of financial scams, and the risks of borrowing from moneylenders. 'As such, I urge the public to be extremely cautious when dealing with unfamiliar financial schemes. 'If you fall victim to a scam or face financial difficulties, do not suffer in silence. 'Seek help from trusted family members, friends or legal channels, instead of turning to high-risk lending services. 'Let this be a reminder that seeking support and advice early can prevent deeper financial trouble,' said Kong. He also advised everyone to always verify financial deals, stay informed and most importantly, to never let fear or embarrassment get in the way of seeking the right help. RM1.2 million drug bust in Kota Kinabalu, man arrested

Kota Kinabalu: A 23-year-old local, believed to be part of a drug syndicate, was arrested following three separate police raids around the city, resulting in the seizure of more than 20kg of various narcotics worth RM960,000. Sabah Police Commissioner Datuk Jauteh Dikun said the operation, conducted by the Kota Kinabalu Narcotics Crime Investigation Division on July 4, began with a raid on a condominium. Officers found 790.56gm of suspected methamphetamine (syabu), along with a money-counting machine, a digital scale and drug packaging tools. The following day, a second raid on another rented condominium uncovered 14.14gm of suspected ketamine. Acting on information from the suspect, police then inspected an abandoned vehicle in a parking lot, which led to the discovery of a suitcase containing 12.7kg of syabu, 6.9kg of ketamine and 25 packets ecstasy juice and 10 ecstasy pills. Jauteh said the drugs were likely intended for both local consumption, especially at entertainment venues, and distribution to neighbouring countries. He added that the suspect is believed to have been actively involved in drug trafficking for the past year. Assets worth RM240,000 suspected to be linked to drug activities were also seized, bringing the total value of the seizures to RM1.2 million. The suspect remains in custody and is being investigated under Section 39B of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952. On the narcotic trafficking trends, Jauteh said drugs are typically smuggled into Sabah via sea cargo for large quantities and air transport for smaller consignments. 'This is based on patterns observed over the past five years,' he said, calling for stronger collaboration between enforcement agencies and the public to curb drug threats, especially those involving cross-border smuggling. 'We need comprehensive cooperation from all stakeholders responsible for the movement of goods in and out of Sabah. 'Once drugs enter Sabah, the police can act, but prevention must start before entry,' he said. Jauteh encouraged community involvement in combating drug abuse, saying residents should report any suspicious activities if they are unable to intervene directly. 'Everyone has a role, whether offering guidance or reporting to the authorities.
