The Inland Revenue Board of Malaysia (IRB) has identified 5,800 taxpayers who previously failed to submit their Income Tax Return Forms (BNCP) following checks through the e-Invoicing system, which revealed undeclared income amounting to RM484 million. IRB said the move resulted in additional tax collection of RM82 million after these taxpayers came forward to declare their past assessment years' income. 'As of July 30 2025, approximately 413 million e-Invoices have been issued overall, involving over 83,000 taxpayers. This includes mandatory compliance from phases one to three, as well as voluntary participation from phases four and five,' IRB said in a statement. The agency said e-Invoicing implementation has shown positive acceptance, aligning with efforts to strengthen voluntary and continuous tax compliance. Taxpayers whose grace period has ended are reminded to fully comply with e-Invoicing requirements as per the issued guidelines. Related

Taxman detected 5.8k tax dodgers evading RM484m based on e-invoice submission scrutiny
TAX evasion has certainly been made difficult with the implementation of mandatory e-invoicing that requires all registered businesses to generate e-invoices for B2B, B2G and B2C transactions (businesses below RM500,000 in annual revenue are accorded exemption). Such is the harsh reality as the Inland Revenue Board of Malaysia (HASiL) revealed that a total of 5,800 taxpayers who were previously found to be non-compliant in submitting their Income Tax Return Forms (BNCP) have come forward to submit them. 'They had reported income for the past assessment year amounting to RM484 mil which contributed an additional tax revenue of RM82 mil,' the tax collector pointed out in a media statement. 'HASiL is always actively monitoring taxpayer data that has been verified in the MyInvois system to ensure that tax compliance is implemented voluntarily and continuously in line with the principles of fairness in the national taxation system.' As of July 30, around 413 million e-invoices have been issued in total, entailing the participation of more than 83,000 taxpayers from the first to third phases who implement e-invoicing mandatorily as well as those in the fourth and fifth phases who complied voluntarily. For the record, the first phase of the e-invoicing exercise began on Aug 1 last year for businesses with a turnover exceeding RM100 mil followed by Phase 2 on Jan 1 this year for companies with a turnover surpassing RM25 mil. From July 1, businesses with annual revenue between RM5-RM25 mill have been subject to e-invoicing under Phase 3 while those with revenue between RM500,001 and RM1 mil must comply from July 1, 2026. 'Taxpayers are advised to always update their tax records and ensure full compliance to avoid any enforcement action,' warned HASiL 'Based on the information submitted by the e-invoice system, HASiL has taken early compliance action against taxpayers who are at risk of failing to report their income.' The taxman further reminded taxpayers whose grace period has expired that they must fully implement e-invoicing in accordance with the existing guidelines. – July 30, 2025
