Deputy Entrepreneur Development and Cooperatives Minister R Ramanan said downplaying the RM100 Rahmah Necessities Aid (Sara) announced by the prime minister is akin to belittling the poor in this country. He stressed that the sum would have a great impact on the daily lives of the less fortunate, adding that it should not be politicised.

KUSKOP aids 8,466 Indian entrepreneurs in first five months of 2024
KUALA LUMPUR: The Ministry of Entrepreneur Development and Cooperatives (KUSKOP) has assisted 8,466 Indian entrepreneurs through multiple initiatives between January and May this year. These programmes, including Prosperity Empowerment and A New Normal for Indian Women (PENN), Bank Rakyat Indian Entrepreneur Financing-i (BRIEF-i), and the SPUMI Empowerment Financing Scheme (SPUMI Goes Big), aim to enhance economic inclusivity. KUSKOP Deputy Minister Datuk Seri R Ramanan highlighted the government's dedication to uplifting the Indian community in entrepreneurship. 'This demonstrates that Indian entrepreneurs are integral to Malaysia's economic progress,' he said during a press conference after launching the Vanigham Financing Scheme under SME Bank. The scheme allocates RM50 million for Indian small businesses, offering loans between RM100,000 and RM300,000 at a subsidised 6% interest rate. Due to high demand, SME Bank expanded funding to RM140 million, redirecting applicants to other suitable programmes. Today, RM2 million was disbursed to the first 20 beneficiaries. Also present were ministry deputy secretary-general Datuk Saidatu Akhma Hassan and SME Bank chairman Datuk Muslim Hussain.

New PKR leadership must steer party's future, says Amirudin
JOHOR BARU, May 24 — PKR Vice-President Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari said the party election results clearly indicate the party's and the country's future direction. The Selangor Menteri Besar said the new leadership line-up must play a key role in ensuring that PKR remains a central force in the country's administration moving forward. 'After going through a challenging and intense process, we are now at the final stage to conclude the National Congress. This means we have established a new layer of leadership to bear the aspirations of party members and Malaysians,' he said. He said this when winding up the debate on the president's policy speech during the PKR National Congress 2024/2025 at the Persada International Convention Centre here today. Amirudin, also the Selangor Leadership Council chairman, said the new leadership must also be prepared to ensure PKR remains relevant in government and continues to support the leadership of party president Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim in his second term as Prime Minister. Vice-President Datuk Seri R. Ramanan stressed the urgent need for all party members to regain control of the narrative and public perception on social media ahead of the 16th General Election (GE16). He claimed that after assuming the government position, PKR grew too comfortable and overlooked the importance of strategic communication on digital platforms, leaving it vulnerable to slander from opponents. 'I am confident that with the right strategy and coordinated efforts, we can reclaim the social media arena, secure victory for Pakatan Harapan in the GE16, and ensure Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim remains as Prime Minister,' he added. Meanwhile, Vice President Datuk Seri Aminuddin Harun proposed that three key issues causing public concern, namely e-invoicing implementation, gas subsidy adjustments for small traders, and petrol prices rationalisation, must be urgently addressed, warning that failure to do so could risk eroding public support ahead of the general election. Vice-President Chang Lih Kang called on all PKR members to refocus their efforts on winning the GE16 and the upcoming Sabah state election. 'Our focus as a political party is to win elections. We must work hard to ensure PKR remains in the federal government and that our president continues to serve as Prime Minister,' he said while challenging the PKR's Angkatan Muda Keadilan (AMK) youth wing to immediately begin groundwork in tough constituencies where the party has yet to establish a strong foothold. Meanwhile, AMK chief Muhammad Kamil Abdul Munim said each PKR member is responsible for effectively communicating the government's policies and initiatives, as many members of the public remain unaware of the benefits available to them. Wanita PKR chief Fadhlina Sidek also reminded all members to remain loyal and fully trust the new leadership to lead the party to greater heights. — Bernama

Fight slander with stronger social media presence, Ramanan tells PKR
PKR's R Ramanan warned that if the party did not step up its efforts, whatever allegations the opposition threw at the government would be accepted as the truth by the public. JOHOR BAHRU : PKR vice-president R Ramanan has called on the party to strengthen its social media presence to effectively counter slander ahead of the next general election. Ramanan said one of the key issues the party needs to recognise is its weakness on social media. 'This is something we must take seriously. If we don't address it, we'll face serious problems in the next general election. 'Our biggest enemy is slander. We must always question what we see and hear,' he told the PKR congress here today. Ramanan, who is Sungai Buloh MP, said PKR was very active on social media when the party was part of the opposition. 'But once we became part of the government, we became complacent. We took it easy. Slander spreads easily,' he warned. He said if the party does not step up its efforts, whatever allegations the opposition throws at the government would be accepted as the truth by the public. 'For example, the government has given a lot of assistance to the Indian community. 'But the message isn't reaching the grassroots. The information just isn't getting through.' Just last week, Ramanan had to issue a clarification that the person he was seen giving money to in a viral video was actually an employee of his. The video clip, which was circulated widely, showed Ramanan handing over cash to an individual in front of a Pakatan Harapan office, implying it was meant to buy votes in the party election. He said the incident actually took place after the Selangor state election in 2023 and criticised the recent circulation of the video as a dirty political tactic by certain parties. The deputy entrepreneur and cooperative development minister also did not dismiss the possibility of more dirty tactics being employed by the opposition ahead of PKR's central leadership election held yesterday.

Rafizi slams PKR's ‘shortcut' for new members to contest elections
KUALA LUMPUR, May 22 — The special power granted to the PKR president — which allows new members to contest in elections even if they have not completed a full year of membership — should be abolished, Datuk Seri Rafizi Ramli said last night. Utusan Malaysia reported that the PKR deputy president said the concession has sparked dissatisfaction among grassroots members who have long toiled to build up the party and bring it to power. 'This is the voice of the grassroots directed at the President, Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, who has been given the power to allow new members to contest in elections even if they have not been members for a full year. 'This exemption should be revoked and abolished. It's embarrassing for the party. Do you agree? From now on, one must be a party member for at least five years before being eligible to contest,' he reportedly said during the Jelajah Hidupkan Idealisme Reformasi dalam Ujian Kuasa (HIRUK) programme in Johor Baru last night. Expanding on his remarks, Rafizi questioned how a former MIC treasurer — referring to Datuk Seri R. Ramanan — was allowed to run for election after just six months in PKR. He also pointed out that Ramanan was fielded in a parliamentary seat, appointed as a deputy minister in under two years, and is now contesting for the position of PKR vice-president. 'Loyal PKR members like us took years before we were given the opportunity to contest. If you've truly served the party selflessly and sincerely, I believe the grassroots will raise you up as an election candidate,' he was quoted as saying. Rafizi, who is also the economy minister, said new members should first demonstrate loyalty to the party and serve for five years before being allowed to run in internal elections or on the PKR ticket. He added that the measure is crucial to prevent the party from being flooded by opportunists who are more interested in positions or political gain than in genuine struggle. 'Others have struggled for the party during tough times, but when things get easy and the party is in power, these individuals emerge. Never allow such people to take over the party, because at this rate, that's where things seem to be heading,' he added.
