Fishermen, tourism in Laurel, Batangas affected by search for missing sabungeros

Residents of Laurel, Batangas said that the search and retrieval operations for the missing sabungeros in Taal Lake had negatively impacted their fishing and tourism industries. In a ''24 Oras Weekend'' report by Raffy Tima, Laurel, Batangas Mayor Lyndon Bruce said that fishermen have been casting their nets less frequently since there is less demand for their catch. 'Base sa report ng ating fish port office, before nagkakaroon tayo ng 10 na bankang pumapalaot. Ngayon dalawa na lang kada araw, dahil nang walang masyadong order na dinadala sa market sa Manila,' Bruce said. (Based on reports from our fish port office, we previously had 10 boats going out to sea. Now, there are only two per day, as there aren't many orders brought to markets in Manila.) He added that there were also fewer tourists in the area. Still, Bruce said that the local government was willing to assist the national government in the search and retrieval operations. 'Kung ano po yung kailangan nila, nakakapag-provide… Tulad nga po ng mga bankang malalaki, tumawag sila kahapon at kailangan nila. Kami naman po ay willing na nakikipag-cooperate sa kanila,' he said. (Whatever they needed, we were able to provide... Like the big boats, they called yesterday because they needed them. We are willing to cooperate with them.) On the third day of the search and retrieval operations, Philippine Coast Guard divers retrieved two more sacks that may contain human remains. Taal Lake is being searched for bodies of the missing sabungeros, who were abducted from 2021 to 2022, after whistleblower Julie "Dondon" Patidongan stated that the cockfight enthusiasts were already dead and dumped in the lake. —Jiselle Anne Casucian/VBL, GMA Integrated News

Sweethearts, love teams slay #GMABeyond75 red carpet looks

GMA Network's diamond anniversary on Sunday night was just as intimate as it was spectacular, and the anticipated red carpet walk had no shortage of head-turners in their fabulous getups. Real-life sweethearts and pairings slayed the #GMABeyond75 red carpet, so here's a brief guide to these Kapuso luminaries' fashionable picks for the GMA 75th Anniversary Special. Raffy Tima and Mariz Umali-Tima GMA Integrated News' version of a power couple is a distinction reserved for veteran broadcast journalists Raffy Tima and Mariz Umali-Tima. Both were spotted in their pad paper-inspired ensembles by local designer Daryl Maat, who was also responsible for some of the outfits of other Kapuso news luminaries in attendance. Raffy, a Balitanghali anchor, wore the reimagined traditional barong, while Mariz, an Unang Hirit host, matched it with the version of a Filipiniana– both bearing the iconic red-and-blue horizontal stitchings and embroidered doodles à la Daryl Maat. Dingdong Dantes and Marian Rivera Dingdong Dantes and Marian Rivera are no stranger to red carpets– they're the Kapuso Primetime King and Queen after all– but their #GMABeyond75 aura was the definition of timeless sophistication. Dingdong's textured gray-and-black ensemble– slightly open at the chest and a pocket square for added accent– matched Marian's clear blue column gown beaded beautifully with gems and sequins. Barbie Forteza and David Licauco Though Barbie Forteza and David Licauco weren't together in the literal sense of the word during their red carpet moment, BarDa fans can still celebrate the fact that they walked and posed for the camera next to each other. The Kapuso Primetime Princess glowed in her custom Fatima Beltran butter yellow off-shoulder gown. The details in this custom creation weren't so much muted as they were intentionally placed to allow Barbie's au naturel beauty to shine: skirt just long enough to kiss the floor, a choker neck detail that draped down her back, and a perfect slit that exposed her gold stilettos for a subtly daring finish. David, on the other hand, lived up to his Pambansang Ginoo nickname, electing to wear a classic embroidered Barong Tagalog over black pants to complete this timeless look. Zoren Legazpi and Carmina Villaroel Zoren Legaspi and Carmina Villaorel have always been worthy ambassadors of sharp and elegant looks, and their red carpet moment at #GMABeyond75 was no exception. The veteran couple, who walked with Sparkle twins Mavy and Cassy, exuded elegance in Zoren's deep blue double-breasted suit, and in Carmina's sequin beige gown. Ysabel Ortega and Miguel Tanfelix More than just an on-screen love team, the real-life tandem of Ysabel Ortega and Miguel Tanfelix is one of the most adored and in demand pairings the Kapuso network has to offer. Ysabel wore a custom Brandon Chan pink no-strap peplum dress, while Miguel went with an old-school silhouette of an oversized all-black tuxedo over wide pants and pointy black leather. Julie Anne San Jose and Rayver Cruz The powerhouse pairing of real-life love birds Julie Anne San Jose and Rayver Cruz had effortless charm and appeal during their #GMABeyond75 red carpet moment. Rayver partnered his double-breasted suit in nude with a black bow tie and trousers, while Julie Anne rocked her starry black two-piece custom from Studio Brandon Chan. Gabbi Garcia and Khalil Ramos Artsy couple Gabbi Garcia and Khalil Ramos wore their personalities to the #GMABeyond75 celebration. Gabbi owned her red carpet moment while in her two-piece Cheetah Rivera gown. The strapless vibrant yellow top with puffy sleeves was as bubbly as the Kapuso actress-host, while the long olive green skirt hugged her toned legs to the floor. Khalil, on the other hand, was simple, sleek, and artistic with his flower-embroidered traditional Barong Tagalog ensemble. Elle Villanueva and Derrick Monasterio Sparkle's sultry leading lady Elle Villanueva and debonaire Derrick Monasterio understood the assignment. They wore matching rose pink outfits for their #GMABeyond75 red carpet vibe– Elle with a figure-hugging lace dress with long sleeves, while Derrick opted for a classic wide-lapelled tuxedo over a bowtied white undershirt and black trousers. Ruru Madrid and Bianca Umali RuCa's Ruru Madrid and Bianca Umali were a sight to behold during the #GMABeyond75 gala night. The Kapuso Primetime Action Hero went for a menswear staple with a comfy oversized stone gray coat-and-tie, while the Sang'gre star wore a light bronze column gown elaborately designed by Joe San Antonio that fittingly resembled the thematic color of Terra's character. Marco Masa and Ashley Sarmiento Sparkle teens Marco Masa and Ashley Sarmiento walked the red carpet with subtle intentions in mind. The best friends, whose great friendship started even before their careers in GMA began, entered the red alley together in quiet purple matching– Ashley in her straightforward lavender silk dress, and Marco in a traditional black coat with purple shirt and tie. Arthur Solinap and Rochelle Pangilinan Real-life Kapuso husband-and-wife Arthur Solinap and Rochelle Pangilinan-Solinap have been a staple pairing on red carpets since tying the knot in 2017. For #GMABeyond75, the veteran actor and Pepito Manaloto mainstay opted for a sophisticated getup in his midnight blue tuxedo on a black undershirt, while the celebrated dancer and SexBomb icon was fabulous in Fatima Beltran's royal blue silk off-shoulder.

Filipinos call on elected officials to fulfill campaign promises

Filipinos are calling on the over 18,000 elected officials who are set to officially assume their posts on Monday, June 30, 2025, to fulfill the promises they made while campaigning earlier this year. According to University of the Philippines National College of Public Administrative and Governance (UP NCPAG) professor and former dean Maria Fe Mendoza, the public should take government officials into account. 'The 31% youth vote parang spelled the difference. May pag-asa pala tayo, kasi surprise 'yun, diba, at 'yun nga, despite the surveys before the elections, ang napunta sa magic five ay 'yung mga hindi natin inaasahan,' she said in a report by Raffy Tima on GMA's '24 Oras Weekend' on Sunday. (We have hope, because it was a surprise that despite the surveys before the elections, those who entered the magic five are those we did not expect.) The top five senators in the May elections were Senators Christopher 'Bong' Go, Paolo Benigno 'Bam' Aquino, Ronald 'Bato' dela Rosa, Erwin Tulfo, and Francis Pangilinan. Aquino and Pangilinan had been outside the top five or even top 12 in the polls that were taken leading up to the election. There are 18,255 officials set to take office on Monday, majority of whom are set to have a three-year term save for the 12 senators who will serve for the next six years. This is 155 more than those elected in the previous polls, given the establishment of a new province and eight new municipalities. GMA Integrated News asked voters what they expect from the officials: 'Kung ano 'yung nagawa nung nakaraan, previous na nakaupo, kung maganda na 'yung ginagawa niya, dapat lamangan niya para ang mga tao, okay ang kabuhayan,' said one man. (What was done by the previous administration, if it was good, the next administration should surpass that so that livelihood would be okay). 'Gawin nila 'yung best nila tsaka 'yung sa plataporma nila, 'yung magagandang mga plano nila eh gawin nila ngayon, tuparin nila ngayon,' said a client at a barbershop. (They should do their best and their platforms, the good plans they have, they should fulfill that now.) ''Yung mga pangako nila, dapat tuparin nila 'yun. Kung hindi naman natupad eh para saan pa po 'yung pag-e-elect nila?' the barber said. (They should fulfill their promises. If not, what were they elected for?) ''Wag puro pangako kasi 'pag sa kampanya malakas sila, pinapasok nila 'yung mga eskinita, pero 'pag nanalo na, hindi nila mabisita kung sino 'yung mga nasa laylayan ng lipunan,' said another man. (They shouldn't be full of promises because during the campaign, they would reach even the alleys but when they win, they cannot even visit those in the margins.) 'Inaasahan ko sana magkaroon ng trabaho 'yung mga nahihirapang maghanap ng trabaho, lalo na 'yung mga katulad ko na 21 years old, tsaka 'yung ano rin po, 'yung pagbaba ng presyo ng bilihin,' said a street vendor. (I am hoping that there would be jobs for those having difficulties to secure employment, especially those like me who are 21 years old, along with the lower prices of goods.) — Jon Viktor D. Michael V. to take legal action if deepfake creator continues deception

Michael V. will take legal action if the content creator behind the deepfake video that used his identity continues his deception. In Raffy Tima's report on "24 Oras," Thursday, the Kapuso Comedy Genius said that he was alarmed by the video falsely showing him endorsing a product. "Alam ko kasi maraming mga netizens, maraming mga mahilig sa social media na baka maapektuhan in a negative way, baka maniwala," Bitoy said. "Titingnan natin kung ano gagawin niya kasi 'pagka persistent siya, 'pagka gumawa ulit siya ng aksyon at inulit niya, mukhang gagawan na namin ng legal action," he said. Other prominent personalities who have also recently fallen victim to deepfakes are Mel Tiangco, Vicky Morales, Mariz Umali, and Dr. Gary Sy, who filed a complaint with the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI), citing the negative impact on his patients and his reputation as a doctor. "Natatakot ako na kapag may nangyari sa kanila, ay ako ang mabuntungan nila," Dr. Gary said. According to Roberto Tayag, CEO of Asia Pacific CyberQ Group, it is challenging for an unsuspecting viewer to immediately scrutinize a video they don't expect to be a deepfake. In response to the rising number of complaints from individuals deceived by fake endorsements, the Department of Information and Technology (DICT) said that they are already taking action against the spread of deepfake content. The department is in discussions with telecommunications companies and social media platforms to implement proactive measures to prevent such fake endorsements. "Ang tawag po doon sa mekanismo na iyon ay geo-blocking/geo locking. 'Yung same na mechanism po ng technology na 'yan 'yung sinasabi ko sa mga streaming platform at sa mga social media platform. Alam n'yo, kaya niyo namang i-prevent 'yan proactively eh," DICT secretary Henry Aguda said. —Carby Rose Basina/MGP, GMA Integrated News
