Gang of autorickshaw drivers booked for another robbery targeting migrant workers in Coimbatore
COIMBATORE: The Racecourse police booked another robbery case against a gang of autorickshaw drivers who had been robbing migrant workers arriving in Coimbatore city. The gang was arrested a few days ago for robbing money from migrant workers arriving at Coimbatore railway station after taking them to an isolated place in the guise of offering them a ride. After their arrest, another set of workers who were robbed by the gang complained to the police, and the police booked a second case a week after the first one. Drivers B Nowfal Basha (29) of Annur, R Senthilkumar (33) of Selvapuram and K Mohammed Azharuddin (25) of Ukkadam were arrested on June 18 on extortion charges based on the complaint from three north Indian workers. They were accused of taking the workers to a secluded place and extorting Rs 13,000 from them. The three were arrested and lodged in the Coimbatore Central Prison. Now Senthilkumar and Nowfal Basha along with their mastermind, namely Ragu, have been booked in another similar case of robbery for allegedly robbing Rs 4,700 from workers arriving in the city. The latest case is based on a complaint filed by M Dhanapal (34) of Pudukkottai district on behalf of his five north Indian colleagues. They were looted by the gang on June 14 after they took an autorickshaw from the Coimbatore railway station to reach Gandhipuram. An autorickshaw driver and his two aides first robbed Rs 4,700 cash from them after assaulting them near the Valankulam-Sungam bypass road. Then they were forced to transfer online Rs 11,000 through an UPI transaction. The gang subsequently dropped the guest workers at Ukkadam. The workers didn't approach the police as they were threatened. But after coming to know about the arrest of the gang, they revealed the matter to their colleague Dhanapal, who then complained to the police on Wednesday. The police booked a case and investigated the whereabouts of prime suspect Ragu. Peelamedu inspector L Kandaswamy said the gang robbed migrant workers who came to the city for the first time. He urged people who faced a similar ordeal to lodge complaints. Meanwhile, the police held a meeting with the drivers operating their autorickshaws in the vicinity of the city railway station, and urged them not to encourage such activities with their knowledge. "We found 117 drivers based at autorickshaw stands. They have been warned not to engage in or encourage such illegal activities. If anyone does so, stringent action would be taken," Kandaswamy stated.

Ragù, Bristol B3: ‘I recommend it wholly, effusively and slightly enviously' – restaurant review
Ragù is a cool, minimal, romantic ode to Italian cooking that's housed in a repurposed shipping container on Wapping Wharf in waterside Bristol. No, come back, please – don't be scared. There are tables, chairs, napkins, reservations and all the other accoutrements of a bricks-and-mortar restaurant, even if this metal box may at some point in its existence once have been used to ship things to China and back. To my mind, Wapping Wharf has gone from strength to strength in recent years, and no longer feels at all like one of those novelty 'box parks' that have about them a heavy whiff of the edgy temporary fixture. Today's Wapping Wharf is a true independent food destination in its own right, and with a bird's-eye view from one of Ragù's window seats, while eating venison rump with gorgonzola dolce and sipping a booze-free vermouth, you can watch the crowds head for the likes of the modern French Lapin, Tokyo diner Seven Lucky Gods, modern British Box-E, Gurt Wings and many more; by day, there's also a bakery, a butcher, a fromagerie and so on. Of course, anyone who calls their sophisticated modern Italian restaurant Ragù clearly didn't live in the UK through the 1980s. For me, as for many others, ragu will always be sold in a glass jar and advertised via caterwauling operatic ditties during the breaks on ITV's London's Burning: 'Ragu, it brings out the Italian in you,' etc. This was back in a time when Britain's attitude to Italian cuisine stretched, broadly speaking, as far as spag bol, though many of us were at a loss to tackle the 'bol' part of that equation without Unilever's industrially squished sieved tomatoes at 79p a jar. Those days are long gone, however, and the evidence is clear to see at Ragù, with its crisp, lightly battered artichoke fritters with a punchy aïoli, its Hereford onglet with cipollotti onion, and its cannoli with rhubarb curd and pistachio. Ragù caters to a young-ish, knowing audience who are well aware that Britain's current Italian dining culture was shaped by the River Cafe, Angela Hartnett and Giorgio Locatelli. Owners Mark and Karen Chapman opened Cor on North Street, Bedminster, in 2022, where they serve clever, fancy yet erring-on-the-hearty Mediterranean plates – think Catalan sausage with clams and fino butter sauce followed by tonka bean creme caramel. At Ragù, meanwhile, their focus is wholly Italian and, to my mind, this could be some of the most skilful cooking anywhere in Britain right now. I recommend the place wholly, effusively and slightly enviously of anyone who gets to taste the heavenly tiramisu made with sumptuously soggy slices of panettone before I get the chance to return. After the artichoke fritti, we moved on to a bowl of humble-sounding 'crespelle in tomato brodo, spinach and sheep's ricotta'. That's cheese pancakes in tomato sauce, right? Wrong. Very wrong. This was the greatest, richest, most drinkable-by-the-bucket tomato brodo I've ever tasted. Juicy, sweet, sharp and rich in all the right dimensions. What are they doing to tomatoes back there in that tiny kitchen? Next up, slow-cooked shoulder of lamb, pulled off the bone, shaped into a loose patty, placed on top of a fresh pea stew and dotted with a sharp salsa verde and earthy pecorino. The star of the show, however, was the Ashton Court venison, cooked rare but as soft as butter, then given plenty of colour in a hot pan and served on pungent gorgonzola with bone marrow butter. This is not a dish for the faint-hearted or slender of appetite. Those wanting something lighter might opt for the skate wing with salmoriglio and courgette and fennel salad, or even the tagliolini with Devon crab, but this is cooking that lends itself to excess. Service was fantastically prompt throughout, as the young team coped with the Saturday night chaos with calm aplomb. Desserts are another highlight, with three types of Italian cheese (robiola la tur, ubriaco rosso and taleggio) and a gelato, which on that day was a pink grapefruit and Campari sorbet, but please leave room, if possible, for the chocolate budino with sour cherries – a thick, almost-too-much truffle-type cake with huge, boozy cherries and crumbed amaretti biscuits. It's like an Italian take on the St Emilion au chocolat, or perhaps the French stole it from the Italians in the first place? I'm not sure who makes it better, but it's a fight I'd happily referee. Either way, Ragù might very well be my favourite new restaurant of 2025, and we've barely reached summer yet. All hail the Bristol riviera. Ragù Unit 25, Cargo 2, Museum Street, Wapping Wharf, Bristol BS3, 01179 110218. Open lunch Tues-Thurs, lunch noon-3.30pm, dinner 5-10pm; Fri & Sat all day, noon-10pm. From about £40 a head à la carte; set lunch Tues-Fri, £30 for three courses, all plus drinks and service.

Popular snack chip, iconic sauce enter the pizza market
People love to say that even the worst pizza is still pizza. Technically, that's true because we have no real standard for what counts as a pizza. You can call your giant pile of lasagna on a crust, Chicago-style pizza, and nothing prevents the people at Stouffer's from calling their French bread monstrosity pizza.. Related: McDonald's pauses addition of popular new menu item It's a very loose term whose boundaries are pressed by the contents of the frozen pizza aisle. This appears to be one of the most competitive spaces in the grocery store as there are tons of competitors. You have your chains like California Pizza Kitchen, bringing a version of their pizza to the grocery store and you also have players that have build a reputation in the space like DiGiorno. Frozen pizza is a very difficult market to crack because even some of the lesser players like Red Baron and Elio's have been around for decades. Clearly, some frozen pizza gets purchased to a nostalgia and not because it's actually good. And, since most frozen pizza is eaten by kids, the standards are low. Don't miss the move: Subscribe to TheStreet's free daily newsletter Breaking into the space, however, is incredibly challenging. Not only are there dozens of brands fighting for space in the freezer, every grocery chain has its own house brand. Launching a new frozen pizza requires a gimmick. Two major national brands are taking very different approaches to leveraging their notoriety to become frozen pizza players. Ragu has been around since 1937 and the iconic brand remains popular today. It's a go-to brand for basic sauce needs that's battling with Prego for the top position in the "I'm making pasta for a big group and want it to be fine" space. Now, the company known as one of the core, basic sauce brands nobody has any real feelings about, has launched its own line of frozen pizza. The company has partnered with U.S. frozen-pizza maker Palermo Villa, Inc. and has an overly flowery description of its new frozen pizza brand extension. Related: Dairy Queen makes surprising move to jump on fast-food trend "This innovative partnership is a natural extension of the Ragu brand's current sauce lineup that delivers great tasting, convenient, family-favorite foods at an affordable price, enhancing the Ragu brand's commitment to its genuine Italian heritage and creating mouth-watering foods that the whole family enjoys," it shared. Ragu has remained affordable at a time when some higher end sauce brands have climbed over the $10 per jar price point. The NEW Ragu Frozen Pizzas will be available at select retailers, with a suggested retail price of anywhere from $4.99 - 6.99 depending on location and market. The line includes: • Ragu Cheese Pizza: Radu-inspired sauce-vine-ripened tomatoes and traditional spices on an airy pizzeria-style crust topped with rich whole-milk mozzarella, provolone and white-cheddar cheeses.• Ragu Combination Pizza: a pillowy pizzeria-style crust topped with Ragu-inspired sauce, vine-ripened tomatoes and traditional spices, sumptuous whole-milk mozzarella, Italian sausage, and sliced pepperoni.• Ragu Pepperoni Pizza: Ragu-inspired sauce, vine-ripened tomatoes and traditional spices on a delicious pizzeria-style crust topped with whole-milk mozzarella and savory sliced pepperoni.• Ragu Supreme Pizza: a pizzeria-style crust topped with Ragu-inspired sauce vine-ripened tomatoes and traditional spices, whole-milk mozzarella, Italian sausage, sliced pepperoni, plus a colorful array of green and red peppers, black olives, and onions. Taco Bell has taught us that snack chips are more versatile than we may have been led to believe. And while Doritos has capitalized on that the most, the fine folks at Cheez-it have done their part as well. Like Ragu, Cheez-It has also partnered with Palermo Villa. Its partnership has led to Cheez-It Frozen Pizza, a 12 inch, ultra-thin, and crispy Original Cheez-It flavored crust made with 100% real cheese, "paired with your favorite pizza toppings to remind you of the irresistible, cheesy flavor you love." Cheez-It is owned by Kellanova, which used its Beanstalk exclusive global food and beverage licensing agency to create the partnership. The Cheez-It pizza lineup includes: Italian Four Cheese: A delightful blend of whole milk mozzarella, yellow cheddar, parmesan, and Romano cheeses with marinara sauce atop an ultra-thin, and crispy Original Cheez-It flavored crust. Ragu Is Releasing a Frozen Pizza Line, But Fans of the Beloved Pasta Sauce Say This Is Where They 'Draw the Line'
Move over, Cheez-It. It turns out that you're not the only popular brand trying to take over the frozen pizza game. Weeks after it was revealed that Cheez-It would be releasing a line of frozen pizzas made from Original Cheez-It flavored cracker thin crust, Ragu has announced that it's also dropping a line of frozen pizzas. Food influencer @markie_devo reports that the pasta and pizza sauce brand has partnered with Palermo Villa, Inc for a line of pizzas that feature Ragu Pizza Sauce. The collection of pizzas will include four varieties: Ragu Cheese Pizza, Ragu Combination Pizza, Ragu Pepperoni Pizza and Ragu Supreme Pizza. A detailed description of each can be found below. Related: Ragu Cheese Pizza: Ragu-inspired sauce—vine-ripened tomatoes and traditional spices on an airy pizzeria-style crust topped with rich whole-milk mozzarella, provolone, and white-cheddar cheeses. Ragu Combination Pizza: a pillowy pizzeria-style crust topped with Ragu-inspired sauce, vine-ripened tomatoes, and traditional spices, sumptuous whole-milk mozzarella, Italian sausage, and sliced pepperoni. Although there was plenty of applause from fans when the Cheez-It line of frozen pizzas was unveiled, they're a bit skeptical about the collab between Ragu and Palermo Villa. Related: "Think this is where I draw the line haha," one person on Instagram wrote. "Hmm iunno. It might be good. But if this was Prego Pizza I'd be all over it! 😂," another person added. If you're interested in trying out one of Ragu's frozen pizzas for yourself, you can find them at select grocery stores, including SEG/Winn Dixie, Food City, Hy-Vee and Hannaford, Up Next:
