MyKad and expanded SARA list enhance purchasing power in Malaysia
MELAKA: The integration of MyKad and an expanded list of approved items under the Sumbangan Asas Rahmah (SARA) programme has significantly improved accessibility and purchasing power for beneficiaries since April. The system streamlines transactions, eliminating the need for additional verification during payments. Housewife Natasha Irma Ishak, 30, who supplements her income by selling doughnuts from home, praised the convenience of MyKad. 'The system is efficient and hassle-free. I no longer worry about forgetting my phone or running out of mobile data while shopping,' she told Bernama. However, she hopes for wider adoption, particularly in rural areas, to ensure more beneficiaries can access the aid. Cleaner M. Saraswathy, 40, also commended the system, noting smooth transactions at supermarkets and grocery stores. She suggested broadening the list of eligible items to include more household and personal care products. 'The aid helps me manage monthly expenses, especially before payday. I also appreciate that unused balances roll over,' she said. SARA provides additional support to Rahmah Cash Aid recipients classified as poor or hardcore poor under the eKasih system. The initiative aligns with the government's MADANI Economy framework, aimed at uplifting vulnerable groups. Under the current administration, annual SARA assistance has risen to RM2,100 per eligible household, up from RM1,200 last year. Since April 1, monthly aid has increased to RM200, benefiting 5.4 million recipients.

MyGov Malaysia app for easy access to govt agencies
PUTRAJAYA: MyGov Malaysia, a single digital gateway app for government services, will be launched next month, says Gobind Singh Deo (pic). The Digital Minister said the app is part of the nation's government technology (GovTech) initiative, providing Malaysians easy access to various government agencies. 'This is part of the government's plan to transform Malaysia into a digital nation. It is only right to ensure we have a single platform where Malaysians can deal with various government agencies seamlessly,' said Gobind in a statement. The MyGov Malaysia mobile application will focus on seven main services – travel (passport-related matters); registration (birth and citizenship); driving (road tax and driving licence); healthcare (appointments and medical records); summonses; housing (land tax/assessment rates); and Rahmah Cash Aid, with more features to be added in the near future. Gobind said MyGov Malaysia would be integrated with MyDigital ID to streamline access to government services via a single, secure platform. 'Users will be able to verify their identity and access multiple services directly through the mobile application using their MyDigital ID credentials. 'This unified approach not only simplifies user interaction with government platforms but also underpins the broader commitment to digital inclusivity, trust and service excellence by the Digital Ministry,' he said. As of June 23, a total of 2,604,160 MyDigital ID registrations have been recorded. The integration of the single sign-on will be for 34 main government system applications. 'The MyGov Malaysia app will allow Malaysians direct access to multiple services at the palm of their hands. This is part of our journey in transforming Malaysia into a digital nation, a journey that will benefit Malaysians and to ensure no one is left behind in a trusted digital environment,' Gobind added.

Public trust deficit on PMX, Madani gov't gets vented on Agong's Facebook page
MAN-on-the-street Malaysians have done the unimaginable by expressing their dismay over Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim and his Madani administration on the Facebook (FB) page of His Majesty Sultan Ibrahim, King of Malaysia. They did such unprecedented practice by posting comments which diverted from the norm in a social media post on Sultan Ibrahim meeting PMX who also briefed the former on current developments and various current issues. The meeting at Istana Bukit Tunku in Kuala Lumpur yesterday (June 22) lasted for almost two hours, according to Sultan Ibrahim's FB post. It cannot, however, be immediately ascertained if the detractors included opposition backers/cybertroopers, the pro-Najib faction or even disgruntled PKR loyalists who are disillusioned with outcome of the recent party's central leadership polls. 'Daulat Tuanku. We the ordinary rakyat are struggling, Your Majesty with businesses in decline, purchasing power being not what it used to be, the rates of water & electricity also felt very different … hope the government is more sensitive to this issue,' read the top comment. 'We the people don't know who else to complain to. Profound apology, Your Majesty.' Interestingly, a Madani government backer tried to diffuse the claim by accusing that it was merely an opposition slander given the government of the day has dished out the Rahmah Cash Aid (STR) and Sumbangan Asas Rahmah (MYSARA) initiatives to ease financial burden of the B40 group.' However, he was accused as a Madani government cybertrooper who only wanted 'to deny grouses from the rakyat to protect the government's image' with one commenter openly declared 'we openly reject PMX, Your Majesty'. Another even wondered if Sultan Ibrahim ever read disgruntlements expressed by his royal subjects. One commenter even called for the reinstatement of incarcerated former premier Datuk Seri Najib Razak as 'PMX is only burdening the rakyat and only leading the country towards destruction'. Appeals also poured in for Sultan Ibrahim to advise PMX on how to administer the country prudently – or even to appoint an interim PM – especially given that 'taxes have been risen, subsidies are eliminated (reduced to targeted subsidies) and national debt has increased'. 4.8 million Sara recipients use MyKad to buy essential items
GEORGE TOWN: A total of 4.8 million out of 5.4 million recipients of the Sumbangan Asas Rahmah (Sara) aid have used their MyKad to purchase basic necessities at registered shops nationwide as of this month. Deputy Finance Minister Lim Hui Ying said Perlis recorded the highest number of users at 94%, followed by 93% in Sabah and Kedah, while Penang recorded 88%. She said the figures reflect the growing effectiveness of the initiative due to various awareness and promotional efforts at both federal and state levels. The government has raised the amount of funds for both Sara and Rahmah Cash Aid (STR) schemes to RM13bil this year, the highest for cash aid programmes in Malaysia's history, Bernama reported Lim as saying. 'The ministry will continue to strengthen awareness campaigns to ensure more people benefit from this government aid, which is aimed at easing their financial burden. 'We have also significantly expanded the number of recipients from 700,000 to 5.4 million since April,' she told reporters during a Sara outreach programme at a hypermarket here yesterday. At the event, Lim met with 100 Sara recipients in Penang as part of the ministry's effort to engage directly with urban communities. She said to date, 3,700 retail premises have registered under the programme nationwide, enabling recipients to shop closer to home. In Penang alone, 190 outlets are part of the programme. Since May 1, the programme was enhanced by expanding the list of eligible items to 14 categories, including household and personal hygiene products, medicines and school supplies like uniforms and shoes. The maximum amount of aid for 2025 was raised to RM2,100 from RM1,200, a 75% increase, Lim added.
