Duck race to take place in aid of much-loved cause
A duck race is set to take place in aid of a much-loved cause.
Brimscall Duck Race will be staged at 2pm on Sunday, July 13, starting from Goit Bridge after the Lodge.
Spectators are welcome to watch the race down the river.
A duck number is priced at £2 each and to purchase a duck you can email duckrace@
Duck numbers can also be purchased at The Cricketers, Brinscall, The Cottage Tea Room, Murphy's Fish and Chips, Hare and Hounds, Abbey Village, or the Red Lion Wheelton.
There are cash prizes to be won by the winning ducks in the race with first place winning £100, second place bagging £70 and third place getting £30.
Prizes for fourth to 12th place will be donated by businesses.
The Golden Lion in Higher Wheelton has also organised a pre-duck race party running from 2pm to 8pm on Saturday, July 12 with live band Rain City Roses performing from 5.30 pm.
The pre-duck party also promises "hook a duck", face painting, other activities and a bouncy castle.
This event will be the last chance to buy tickets for the race.
The weekend is all in aid of Derian House, which helps provide respite and end-of-life care to more than 400 babies, children and young people across the North West.
Its services are free to families but cost £6 million to run every year with under 30 per cent of funding they need coming from the government.
