TMC Leader Shot In Bengal's Cooch Behar; Party Blames BJP, Saffron Camp Refutes

Last Updated: Trinamool Congress leader Raju Dey was shot at by unidentified assailants in West Bengal's Cooch Behar district late Thursday night and is currently in stable condition. A leader of the Trinamool Congress was injured and admitted to a hospital after he was shot at by unidentified assailants in West Bengal. The incident happened in the Coochbehar district of the state, near the Jhinaidanga area, at nearly 11 pm on Thursday. The TMC leader was identified as Raju Dey, the ' karmadhyaksha ' of Cooch Behar Block 2 Panchayat Samity. 'The bullet struck his right shoulder. He was taken to a nearby hospital by party workers and his condition is stated to be stable," news agency PTI quoted a police officer as saying. The miscreants, who came in a car, fled, leaving behind the vehicle, which has been impounded, the police said. Meanwhile, the ruling TMC alleged that the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) was behind the attack on Dey. However, the saffron party rubbished the charge, terming the attack a result of TMC's infighting. Further investigations into the case were underway. In another incident, Bengal mass education extension and library department minister Siddiqullah Chowdhury's car was attacked on Thursday. Following the incident, Chowdhury expressed outrage and alleged the attack was carried out by the members of his own party, the Trinamool Congress. Earlier, the CBI filed a supplementary charge sheet against TMC MLA Paresh Paul and councillors Swapan Samaddar and Papiya Ghosh for criminal conspiracy and murder in connection with the killing of BJP leader Avijit Sarkar during post-poll violence in West Bengal in 2021. In its second supplementary charge sheet filed before the Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate, Sealdah, on Monday, the CBI also named 15 others under Indian Penal Code Sections related to criminal conspiracy (120-B), murder (302) and disappearance of evidence (201), among others in connection with the case.
