‘The Most Epic Of The Most Epic': Fantastic Four's Producer And Director Tease The Magnitude Of Galactus's Threat, And I'm Pumped About The Stakes In This Movie

When you buy through links on our articles, Future and its syndication partners may earn a commission. Although Galactus technically appeared in 2007's Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer, it was in the form of a planet-sized cosmic cloud that never uttered a word. With the release of The Fantastic Four: First Steps on the 2025 movies schedule next month, we're finally getting a faithful adaptation of the Devourer of Worlds, who's being played by Ralph Ineson. Needless to say that Galactus will be a huge threat, figuratively and literally, in the upcoming Marvel movie, and I'm even more pumped to see the magnitude of this after reading teases about it from producer Grant Curtis and director Matt Shakman. These teases were heard when CinemaBlend visited the set of The Fantastic Four: First Steps last year. At this point, Ineson's casting as Galactus had been public knowledge for several months, but we had yet to see any kind of official peek at the antagonist who debuted in the pages of 1966's Fantastic Four #48. Starting off, here's what Grant Curtis had to say about what we can expect from Galactus when he comes to the movie's 1960s retrofuturistic Earth: The most epic of the most epic that you could imagine? Because that's the global stakes we're dealing with. The universal stakes we're dealing with. And it's not a spoiler that Galactus … when Galactus's gaze comes across your planet, you're not in a good spot. And so I think that that's as big of a scope and skill you could ever ask a villain to bring with him or her. And that is what Galactus brings. More Fantastic Four Coverage I Have So Much Confidence In Fantastic Four Being 'Massive' After Visiting The Film's Set And Hearing How The Team Will Be Added To 'The Mount Rushmore Of The MCU' Fantastic Four's Director Confirms That Reed Richards' Lab Has Three Distinct Sections, And Tells Us What They're For (Plus Shoots Down One Rumor From The Comics) In The Fantastic Four: First Steps, Galactus and his herald, Julia Garner's Silver Surfer, arrive to the Fantastic Four's Earth after Pedro Pascal's Reed Richards inadvertently gets their attention in his attempt to 'stretch the bounds of space.' For those unaware, Galactus doesn't devour planets for sport; he needs to do so in order to survive. This is one of the most powerful entities in this MCU universe, if not the entire multiverse, so if he notices your planet, it'll take nothing short of a miracle to prevent him from fulfilling that task. Of course, we know the Fantastic Four will return in Avengers: Doomsday, but I still worry that their Earth could be destroyed by the time The Fantastic Four: First Steps is over. It won't be much longer until that question is answered, but until then, here's what director Matt Shakman had to say about this depiction of Galactus: (He's) daunting to these characters, of course. And daunting to this world. Because he's larger than life in every possible way. He is 14 billion years old, and maybe a thousand feet tall, depending on a good day, . But, you know, he's a wonderful, classic Fantastic Four villain, and we wanted a chance to explore one of the greats – one of the great villains. As someone who read the early Stan Lee and Jack Kirby Fantastic Four comics as a kid, I'm looking forward to finally seeing Galactus properly realized on the big screen. There was a time when I thought he could succeed Thanos as the MCU's overarching big bad, so it'll be interesting to see how Reed Richards, Vanessa Kirby's Sue Storm, Ebon Moss-Bachrach's Ben Grimm and Joseph Quinn's Johnny Storm neutralize Galactus on their own, assuming that's even possible. Maybe they'll just have to make due with warding him away from Earth, similar to their first encounter with him in the comics. In addition to Galactus and Silver Surfer, the titular stars of The Fantastic Four: First Steps will also clash with Mole Man, though it hasn't been officially confirmed who's playing him. See the superhero team in action starting July 25.

‘Fantastic Four: First Steps' Final Trailer Shows It's Almost Clobbering Time

It's one more month until Marvel Comics' first family finally takes flight in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU), and the final trailer Fantastic Four: First Steps is dropping some massive teasers of what's to come when the film opens 24 July 2025. Starring Pedro Pascal ( The Last of Us, The Mandalarian ) as Reed Richards/Mister Fantastic, Vanessa Kirby ( Mission: Impossible – Fallout ) as Sue Storm/Invisible Woman, Ebon Moss-Bachrach ( The Bear ) as Ben Grimm/The Thing, and Joseph Quinn ( Stranger Things ) as Johnny Storm/Human Torch, and directed by Matt Shakman ( WandaVision ), this third big-screen incarnation of Marvel's First Family marks the team's debut in the MCU. It gives audiences a different look at the film's antagonist, Galactus, played by Ralph Ineson ( The Witch ), along with Silver Surfer aka Shalla-Bal, played by Julia Garner ( Ozark ), as well as the young infant baby boy of Reed and Sue, Franklin Richards. Audiences can also feast their eyes on the iconic number 4 in the sky, written in flames by the Human Torch And while Galactus and Silver Surfer bring on the menace to our quartet of super heroes,, nothing can beat the premise of the trailer that has Johnny and a fan tease Ben about saying his signature line, 'It's Clobbering Time'. Ben's reluctance to say his catch-phrase is a nice set-up for when it will be finally uttered in the movie. We hope, or there will be some clobbering of our own come opening day. The film also stars Matthew Wood, known for voicing General Grevious across various Star Wars projects, as the team's robot, H.E.R.B.I.E, Natasha Lyonne ( Orange is the New Black ), John Malkovich ( In the Line of Fire ), and Paul Walter-Hauser ( Cobra Kai ). Fantastic Four: First Steps opens July 25, 2025. The final trailer for Fantastic Four: First Steps is here, and it gives us the best look yet at one of the biggest threats the Marvel Cinematic Universe has ever faced – Galactus. With the highly anticipated film releasing on July 25, the trailer teases a visually stunning, retro-futuristic journey packed with emotional stakes, powerful heroes and a planet-eating villain like no other. Fantastic Four: First Steps final trailer released ahead of July 25 premiere(Marvel) Set in a 1960s-inspired, retro-futuristic version of Earth, First Steps introduces Marvel's iconic superhero team: Reed Richards/Mister Fantastic (Pedro Pascal), Sue Storm/Invisible Woman (Vanessa Kirby), Johnny Storm/Human Torch (Joseph Quinn) and Ben Grimm/The Thing (Ebon Moss-Bachrach). Alongside them is their baby son, Franklin Richards, and their quirky robot assistant H.E.R.B.I.E., voiced by Matthew Wood. Galactus and Silver Surfer make their debut The biggest reveal in the trailer is Galactus, played by Ralph Ineson. The gigantic, cosmic being known as the 'Eater of Worlds' arrives to consume Earth – not out of hatred, but hunger. His presence sends shockwaves through the heroes, who seem powerless against his size and strength. Helping him is Shalla-Bal, this film's version of the Silver Surfer, played by Julia Garner. But as comic fans know, the Silver Surfer may not stay loyal to Galactus for long. Inspired by the famous 'Galactus Trilogy' from the 1960s comics, the story may lead to sacrifice rather than victory – possibly changing the multiverse forever. High stakes and heroic sacrifices The trailer hints at a darker tone than previous MCU origin stories. Reed Richards admits he is unsure if Earth can be saved. The team looks overwhelmed, not just by Galactus, but by the responsibility of protecting a world – and a newborn child. Still, there is a sense of awe and wonder, from the cosmic visuals to the nostalgic setting. And yes, with Galactus this big, Marvel is promising the unlimited adventure for fans heading to theaters. Final Trailer For Marvel's THE FANTASTIC FOUR: FIRST STEPS Heralds The Arrival of Galactus — GeekTyrant

Marvel Studios has released the final trailer for The Fantastic Four: First Steps and this thing fires off lots of incredibly cool new footage that is sure to get fans excited about what's coming. One of the main things this trailer does is build up the treat of Galactus, and while it visually teases the massive villain, it still doesn't offer a full look. But, The First Family sure has their work cut out for them! You also get to see The Thing sporting a beard. 'Set against the vibrant backdrop of a 1960s-inspired, retro-futuristic world, The Fantastic Four: First Steps introduces Marvel's First Family—Reed Richards/Mister Fantastic, Sue Storm/Invisible Woman, Johnny Storm/Human Torch, and Ben Grimm/The Thing—as they face their most daunting challenge yet. 'Forced to balance their roles as heroes with the strength of their family bond, they must defend Earth from a ravenous space god called Galactus (Ralph Ineson) and his enigmatic Herald, Silver Surfer (Julia Garner). And if Galactus' plan to devour the entire planet and everyone on it weren't bad enough, it suddenly gets very personal.' The movie is rooted in the old-fashioned optimism that inspired the comic that birthed the modern Marvel Universe in 1961. The director previously said: 'More than just the visual aesthetics, the '60s to me are all about optimism. It's about looking to the stars and dreaming about traveling into space. It's about how with the right heart and the right mind, you can do anything — which is what the Fantastic Four is all about.' Directed by WandaVision 's Matt Shakman, the film boasts a high-profile cast led by Pedro Pascal (Reed), Vanessa Kirby (Sue), Joseph Quinn (Johnny), and Ebon Moss-Bachrach (Ben), with a supporting lineup that includes John Malkovich, Natasha Lyonne, Paul Walter Hauser, and Sarah Niles in yet-to-be-revealed roles. The script was originally written by Jeff Kaplan and Ian Springer, it was revised by Cameron Squires and Avatar: The Way of Water co-writer Josh Friedman, with Eric Pearson ( Thor: Ragnarok, Black Widow ) giving it the final pass. The Fantastic Four: First Steps in theaters on July 25, 2025.

The Final ‘Fantastic Four: First Steps' Trailer Ups the Stakes Even Further

We're a month away from the arrival of the next Marvel movie in Fantastic Four: First Steps, and Marvel is reminding us in style with a brand new trailer—one that really wants you to feel the stakes that are riding on this movie, in more ways than one. Prior looks at First Steps leaned into the Silver Age retro-kitsch of its world, and then the arrival of Julia Garner's Silver Surfer to herald the threat of the dread, Galactus. But now this final big trailer for the film really wants to remind us that we kind of already have an inkling how this might go down for the Fantastic Four. And that the arrival of Ralph Ineson's devourer of worlds is very grave news indeed. Because yes, hanging over the threat of Galactus' arrival on this particular Earth in Marvel's multiverse, we know that, thanks to the set up at the end of Thunderbolts, at some point the Fantastic Four have to make their way from this reality to the prime reality of the MCU. Whether they'll have done so after beating back Galactus successfully, or whether they're looking to other realities in the hope they might be able to help find a new home, remains to be seen. Or maybe we should believe Kevin Feige and that ship is not at all related to this version of the Fantastic Four! However it goes, things are going to get quite dire for Richards family and their friends before all that—we'll find out how dire when Fantastic Four: First Steps hits theaters in one month, on July 25.
