The incident occurred in Peddamasanpalli village, Siddipet district. The suspect, identified as Venkatesh, is accused of planning the killing to collect life insurance payouts totalling around 600,000 rupees (approximately RM340,200). According to Siddipet Police, Venkatesh had taken out several insurance policies in his 60-year-old mother-in-law Ramavva's name earlier this year, including policies with the State Bank of India and the local Post Office. In what police described as a calculated scheme, Venkatesh invited Ramavva to a farm under the guise of work. Later that night, he sent her home on foot along a quiet rural road. Investigators alleged that one of Venkatesh's accomplices then struck and killed her with a car. 'He tried to make it appear as a tragic road accident. But Closed-Circuit Television (CCTV) footage from the area revealed inconsistencies that raised suspicions,' a police spokesperson said. Further investigation led to Venkatesh's confession. He admitted to plotting the murder for the insurance money and revealed that he had promised his brother a share of the payout in exchange for his help. Authorities stated that the planning bore a striking resemblance to Drishyam, a film in which the protagonist constructs elaborate alibis to outwit the police. The case has now been expanded as police continue to investigate others believed to be involved in the conspiracy. More Like This

Telangana man eyes Rs 55 lakh insurance, stages accident to kill mother-in-law, held

SIDDIPET : Siddipet police have arrested a man for allegedly conspiring to kill his physically disabled mother-in-law in a staged road accident to claim insurance money. The accused, Talla Venkatesh, initially lodged a complaint at Toguta police station, claiming that his mother-in-law, Tatikonda Ramavva, had died after being hit by an unidentified vehicle. However, during the investigation, Siddipet Commissioner of Police B Anuradha said CCTV footage and interrogation revealed that the incident was a premeditated murder. Facing debts amounting to Rs 22 lakh from agricultural losses and having extended a Rs 1.3 lakh hand loan to his friend Karunakar, Venkatesh devised a plan to murder Ramavva. He had purchased insurance policies in her name, including a Rs 15 lakh policy from the post office for a premium of Rs 755 and a Rs 40 lakh accident policy from SBI for Rs 2,000. Further, 28 guntas of land belonging to Karunakar's father were transferred to Ramavva's name to ensure eligibility for the state's Rythu Bima scheme. On July 7, Venkatesh dropped Ramavva near their agricultural field and informed Karunakar, who hired a vehicle and intentionally ran over Ramavva, killing her on the spot. Venkatesh later contacted him and helped return the vehicle.

Inspired By 'Drishyam', Man Kills Mother-In-Law For Insurance Payout: Cops

Hyderabad: In a chilling case that the police say may have been inspired by the crime thriller 'Drishyam', a son-in-law in Telangana's Siddipet district has been arrested for allegedly murdering his 60-year-old mother-in-law to claim Rs 60 lakh in insurance money. The incident, which unfolded in Peddamasanpalli village, has left the community stunned. The accused, identified as Venkatesh, had reportedly taken out multiple insurance policies in the name of his mother-in-law, Ramavva, at the post office and SBI as recently as March this year. According to Siddipet police, Venkatesh meticulously plotted to kill Ramavva and stage her death as a road accident to claim the substantial insurance payouts. As part of his sinister plan, Venkatesh is said to have taken Ramavva to the fields under the guise of work. Later, under the cover of darkness, he sent her home alone at midnight, setting the stage for the planned "accident." Police said Venkatesh had confided in his brother, promising him half of the insurance money, if he can help in the plan. As Ramavva walked alone on the deserted road, Venkatesh's accomplice struck her with the car, causing her death. Venkatesh then attempted to make the scene appear as a tragic accidental death. However, the elaborate scheme began to unravel during the police investigation. The authorities, acting on suspicion, meticulously reviewed CCTV footage from the area. The footage reportedly provided crucial clues that contradicted Venkatesh's narrative, leading to his arrest. Upon interrogation, Venkatesh reportedly confessed to the crime, admitting that he murdered his mother-in-law solely for the Rs 60 lakh in insurance money. The Siddipet police department highlighted the striking similarities between the perpetrator's planning and the plotline of the 'Drishyam' movie, where the protagonists meticulously fabricate alibis and scenarios to mislead law enforcement.
