Pro Bowl CB names Davante Adams among the hardest WRs to cover

Los Angeles Rams receiver Davante Adams has been around the block in the NFL long enough to see a lot of different cornerbacks. And yet, he's strung together six consecutive 1,000-yard seasons and accrued more than 11,000 career receiving yards and 103 total touchdowns. While he may not be the No. 1 overall receiver in the league, Adams' style of play separates him from the pack. And it's why two-time Pro Bowl cornerback Jaylon Johnson named him one of the hardest receivers to guard in the NFL alongside Justin Jefferson and Tyreek Hill. Jones told Whistle Sports that Adams' "tempo and craftiness" make him a tough man to cover. Johnson would know, too, after playing against Adams three times when Johnson's Chicago Bears faced Adams when he was on the Green Bay Packers. Johnson also faced Adams on the Las Vegas Raiders in 2023. Now in L.A., Adams wouldn't face Johnson unless the two teams saw each other in the postseason. But Adams still has the chance to reach some milestones to continue to cement his NFL legacy. Rams DB recalls Sean McVay calling out Jared Verse for trash-talking teammates in practice

Jared Verse's trash-talking knows no bounds. The Defensive Rookie of the Year talks to opponents constantly throughout the game, but his jawing isn't limited to players on other teams. When he first got to the Los Angeles Rams, he was talking smack to his teammates, too. And it even got him in some trouble. Quentin Lake was on the 'Rich Eisen Show' Tuesday and he recalled the time Sean McVay yelled at Verse for demeaning his teammates in one of his first practices. McVay not only called out Verse on the field and told him to stop talking down to players, but also singled him out in the meeting room afterwards. 'I was on the field and he came back in the team meeting room and called him out again,' Lake said. 'He addressed him on the field and then we come back, we watch practice and get an understanding of the dos and don'ts of practice – how to be a professional. He mentioned what happened on the field with Jared again, Coach McVay did, and he said, 'I get where you're coming from in the sense that you want to have the tenacity, you want to have that fire. But at the same time, you have to realize that these are guys that are on our team. You might think it's a battle. It's ones versus ones. But at the same time, we're all trying to get better. You don't need to downplay a guy, you don't need to be demeaning.'' Verse said earlier this offseason that that was his 'welcome to the NFL' moment, getting a reality check from his head coach. It's hard for him to turn off that fire, constantly talking trash to people no matter the situation. It's part of what makes him great, but he's learned to at least dial it back in practice when he's going up against guys wearing the same jersey as him. Puka Nacua's near-perfect PFF grade shows how good he is on intermediate routes

Puka Nacua does a lot of things well but where he's most dangerous is working over the middle on intermediate routes. Whether he lines up in the slot or on the outside, he's one of the game's best receivers already when it comes to making plays on throws that are between 10 and 20 yards downfield. With his strong hands and physicality, as well as his ability to create yardage after the catch by breaking tackles, he can turn a 10-yard pass into a 30-yad gain. Last season, Pro Football Focus gave him a near-perfect 99.8 grade on intermediate targets 10-19 yards down the field. Nico Collins was the only player with a higher grade on such plays, checking in at 99.9. On intermediate throws last season, Nacua saw 33 targets, catching 22 of them for 406 yards and one touchdown. His 18.5 yards per reception on such plays was the 16th-best among any qualified receiver. His 33 targets were only 26th among all receivers but he ranked 15th in yards on intermediate routes, showing just how efficient he was on those plays. And those are passes Matthew Stafford is more than comfortable making. He has the arm strength to zip the ball in there to his receiver between the corner and linebacker, as well as the touch to loft it over the second-level defenders and give his receiver a chance to make a play after the catch. It's what makes Stafford and Nacua such a deadly duo, as evidenced by these numbers from PFF. It was a similar story in 2023 when Nacua had a 96.6 grade on intermediate passes, catching 30 passes for 554 yards and a touchdown. Additionally, Nacua had the third-highest grade of any receiver on throws behind the line of scrimmage last season, earning a mark of 93.6 – behind only Zay Flowers (93.8) and Khalil Shakir (93.7). again, this goes back to his physicality and YAC-ability, picking up big chunks of yardage with the ball in his hands.
