RCMP charge man with second degree murder after shooting in northern Alberta

RCMP say they have charged 42-year-old Anthony Knott with second degree murder after a shooting in northern Alberta Friday. Officers responded to a shooting on Swan River First Nation around 5 a.m. on Friday where they found 34-year-old Randy Courteoreille dead. They arrested Knott, a resident of Edmonton, shortly after. Knott has been remanded into custody and is to appear in court on July 16. Police say Courteoreille and Knott were known to each other.

RCMP make arrest shortly after fatal shooting in northern Alberta

THE CANADIAN PRESS/Jason Franson Police say they have arrested a suspect in relation to the murder of a 34-year-old man in Kinuso, Alta. Around 5 a.m. on Friday, Faust RCMP were called to assist the Lakeshore Regional Police Service with an active shooting on Swan River First Nation. Alberta RCMP Major Crimes Unit was called in and took charge of the investigation once a murder was confirmed, said a statement issued Friday evening. Officers quickly located and arrested a suspect who was known to the victim. Police identified the victim as Randy Courteoreille, a resident of Swan River First Nation. Police did not release the suspect's name but said more information will be released. Kinuso and Swan River First Nation are just south of Slave Lake, approximately 240 kilometres northwest of Edmonton.
